Over the holiday I was regaling my extended family about an incident that happened at this location. My niece asked if I had left a review. Unfortunately Yelp didn't exist in 1994. We ordered a combination meal and asked to substitute onion rings instead of fries. When I looked at the receipt after eating I noticed they did not substitute, they charged full price for both. When I asked to be refunded for the fries that were not served the manager argued with us, stating we asked for the substitution. The inexperienced manager would not listen to reason. Went to Whataburger one evening to get some supper. I had been on the road a good portion of the day, and had pulled into Orange to get a hotel and some food before crashing for the night. This part of the town simply doesn't have that much in the way of options for food, but fortunately there is a Whataburger, so I was good to go. I don't get many chances to go to Whataburger in my area, as the two that opened in my town closed down within a year of opening. Apparently one of them was very poorly maintained (I never went to that one) and the other was just horribly placed in town (Location Location Location!) However, this location in Orange did not have any of these problems. Walking in everything seemed pleasant and clean, and the front counter help was helpful. I ordered up a double with fries and a drink, then found a place to sit while they made the burger. Once I had my burger in front of me, I chowed down. The fries were tasty, as was the burger. Not a good value in my opinion. It's so much pricier than other fast food but the quality is not very good. My chicken tenders came out cold. My Bfs burger was mediocre. We both would rather have a smaller portion and better quality. Toward the end it was difficult to finish the burger bc it wasn't very tasty or good quality. My overall tiff with this place is its SO expensive for what you get. I could have gone to Denny's for cheaper food that is actually warm. They have different sauces kinda like chik-fil-a but they weren't tasty. The spicy ketchup tasted like... salsa? Finally someone noticed me and they call some other girl to go to the register, she seemed to have a bit of an attitude. No coke or ice tea at the drink station. My favorite burger joint growing up in Texas was a Whataburger with cheese. I moved away from the South and headed West, the closest Whataburger was in Kingman Arizona, but a few years back the doors closed. So I now have to wait till I hit Texas to get my fix. This trip, we're on our way to New Orleans and stopped for the night just shy of Orange Texas, so on our way out of town the next morning, we stopped here for breakfast. The menu includes breakfast items as well as burgers and chicken strips. The burgers are made from 100% "all American" beef, lettuce, onions, pickles, and mustard. I usually ask for no mustard. The burger is always juicy remains one of favorite fast food burger. The place is decorated with sport memorabilia, it's very clean, service is fast and the food was good. The entire night crew worked extremely fast. The night manager took my order and brought in another young lady to help make sure i was in and out very fast. I have stopped here several times while traveling to Louisiana. They are really fast, the store is usually clean, and they are friendly. The food is always good and they have a lot of people in the restaurant when I visit. The only real complaint I have is that they are a little stingy with the picante sauce and ketchup. I travel between New Orleans and Houston and always make a point to stop here. Here's my run down: Is the food good? Not particularly. I've had quite a few burnt buns and cold burgers. Still better than any non-Texas Whataburger though. Is the restaurant tidy? Squeaky clean, even the bathrooms. Is the parking awkward and conflicting with the drive thru? Yeeep. Drive thru can get backed up too. Do I mind taking a u-turn even though there's another one 10 min west? Absolutely not. I go to this Whataburger and this one only. There's also a small lane behind the restaurant that you can take to get back to I-10 west without another U-Turn. (It's not on Google maps) So why all this hum-drum for a 3 star review? Well, for one this Whataburger is locally owned. More importantly, it is the first darn Whataburger that you hit after crossing the Texas-Louisiana border and your last remnant of Texas if you're heading east. Extremely displeased with my last two stops at this Whataburger. I had to get managment involvement both times to get the correct size drink cup for a 'senior' drink. The part I didn't appreciate, especially with the management was the 'attitude' that they didn't have to comply with the corporate guidelines - they could do what they wanted to at their own restaurant.
