We recently tried them at the Iris Festival and I was so glad we did. My son had tried their food at the Old Oak Festival and had told us how much he liked his sandwich. I've seen them around town but usually it's when I'm not hungry. This time I was hungry! I tried The Principal, a Philly cheese steak sandwich with onions, green peppers and provolone. To say these are grilled cheese sandwiches is misleading. They are technically grilled cheese, but if you're expecting the thin, slightly greasy, white bread and American cheese sandwiches we all make at home, think again. This sandwich was on a beautiful grilled sourdough bread with melted provolone and stuffed with steak, onions and green peppers. And it was huge. It was a great sandwich and very tasty, although I would say that even with the loads of grilled onions it was still a bit dry. A little mayo or sandwich spread and it would have been perfect. My hubs tried the Fire Drill, a buffalo chicken flavored deli sliced chicken with jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. He liked it (and I thought it was pretty good) but he said the buffalo flavor was only on the edges and didn't carry through to the middle of the sandwich. He also got an order of the tater tots with cheese sauce. I tried some of these and they were hot, crispy and fresh. The cheese was the nice, melt-y cheese sauce you see on nachos but it didn't have the weird, plastic-y taste that some cheese sauces have. Our son got The Substitute, a pepperoni, marinara, Parmesan and mozzarella sandwich. I didn't try it but he wolfed it down and said it was delicious. I wish I had tried the tomato soup because I've read good things about it, but I guess it's an excuse to go and track them down one day soon.

The doughnuts are double the size of most doughnuts and doubly good. The pretzels are huge, butter basted, warm and delicious. It's not inexpensive but the tastes will cure you of any sticker shock. I spent $40+ for 1/2 dozen regular-1/2 dozen chocolate dipped doughnuts and 6 pretzels with dipping sauces and didn't regret a penny of what I spent. Came back on my way out of town and got a pretzel dog and pretzel for breakfast as well as some doughnuts for later. The food trailer in some of the pictures has been replaced by a building on the edge of Troyer's parking lot. You order at the window and most times there's going to be a line. It's a takeout business so you are on your own if you want to eat right away. The folks are friendly and efficient and orders are filled quickly once you get to the window. If you want to get a preview just search Auntie Ruth's on YouTube and enjoy. It's how I learned that there are a bunch of them in East Tennessee. I just know that if I didn't have enough incentive already to visit my niece then Auntie Ruth's finishes the job.

This perfectly cooked potato (love that they don't coat it in oil) was locked and fully loaded to the hilt with smoked tender pulled bbq pork, cheese, sour cream and topped with a slightly sweet & thick bbq sauce.
