While training for the 2011 NYC Marathon, I got a stress fracture in my ankle and was unfortunately left side-lined after months of training. I wanted a way to maintain physical fitness and cardiovascular stamina, but was unable to even really walk on it for 4-6 weeks. I heard of Deep Water Running through the New York Road Runners and decided to give it a shot...and I am so glad I did. Not only did Robert Valentin's Deep Water Running class give me a way to have a non-impact workout...it is a really amazing full body workout at that! As someone who was running 5+ miles regularly, I can tell you that one 45 minute class completely kicks your butt. All age and ability levels are in the pool at once, but it's customized -- kind of like a spinning class -- so that you work as hard as you can to get your own personalized workout. Robert fixes your form and challenges you, but at the same time it's a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. I've made friends there! Even though I can run again, I still go once a week because it is one of the best workouts I've ever had for my core, legs, butt, back, arms...I am feeling more toned than ever and am obsessed with this addition to my weekly workout. What's great is that Robert will let you try a class for free before you commit, so there really is nothing to lose. The $25/class is actually really reasonable for the type of energizing, intense workout you get. I'd really recomend this to anyone, injured or not. I'm hooked! read more
