Not much of a bargain at all to be honest. I went after seeing an advertisement stating the low prices beat out competitors by 50%. It simply isn't true. Nearly every consumable food item was past the sell by date or had damaged product. The pet food was outrageous in terms of prices. Not one of the bags of dry food was a name brand I would recognize and the few that were actually a known brand, the prices were at least the same if not more costly than the local supermarket. This was a major blow and I am asking the people who are advertising those blatant lies about it being a discounted store. Yes, these goods should be discounted, but they are not. Hidden gem! Found some daily items here that are so much more affordable than the bigger grocery stores. The brand of toothpaste, sugar, and office supplies are so much more affordable here. I came in looking for rugs and left with essentials. The person working the register was very helpful and accommodating (I didn't have enough hands to carry all my stuff). They allowed me to stack my items at the counter before paying (how nice!). They also accept Apple Pay. read more

Bae and I LOVE What-A-Bargain! We find so many great deals and since 99 Cent Store has gone away, we really rely on this family-owned business. All of the employees and Saif are friendly and helpful. Selection is always interesting. I personally love searching for things that I've either never heard of or familiar things for a great deal. Of course some things have a slightly expired date, but that is to be expected. They buy up all the extras from other companies and sell it to the public at a huge discount. It's nice to know nothing goes to waste. I wish there was a place like this in Los Angeles, that's not a huge chain. read more

They have a ton of stuff, sometimes I just peruse the aisles. I've never had a problem with the employees, they're great. And they work the register pretty quickly. I freakin' love this place and spend ages browsing every time I stop in. Yes, you have to scrutinize the food items to make sure they're not spoiled, but I've got a pretty flexible idea about expiration dates when it comes to certain types of food (I don't play with meat or dairy, but a box of Kind bars that's a few days past and just a few bucks? There is nothing I love more than a good bargain [color me cheap], and WaB seems to have all the odds and ends that I probably don't need but can't possibly live without! I love this store! I'm probably in here twice a week between needing craft supplies, party supplies, household items...and they are always so helpful and polite to me! I even got an artificial Christmas tree and had an issue with it that they promptly helped me figure out and get everything set how it needed to be without complaint or blame or anything like that! Store is training young staff to be hyper aware of Black customers. I live in this community and I have shopped in the store about three times. Each time I have been followed so closely that I could start a conversation. I've been told (source cannot be named) that the owner of the store has trained the young male employees to look extra hard at the African-American consumers. My son shopped in that store without my permission/without me and bought over $20 worth of items. He was followed so closely as well. I went back to confront the staff and they called me racist when I highlighted that there was actually another person in the store who was stealing at the time that they were assuming bad things about my son. It was a homeless man stealing snacks but only bought gum. My son only told me and not the staff who was distracted by the stealer because he was following my 17 year old son. read more

Move over Dollar Tree, this place blew away all my expectations! I've never been so giddy inside a dollar store. Granted, I reallllllllly like Dollar Tree, so to be impressed by another dollar store is well, impressive! Straight up, there's a lot of junk in here. And not everything's a dollar (check the shelves and price tags). I filled my basket in less than 10 minutes and my friends had to literally drag me out of the store. And I didn't even get to explore all the aisles! Here's what I got for about $20: - two $1 Nature Valley granola bars. the legit-6-bars pack. Never less than $1.50 anywhere else. - six $1 Lock and Lock tupperwares. These are GREAT, high-quality tupperwares and usually run between $3-$7 per piece. - $4 12-pack of Bear Naked granola Bars - $2 Conair big barrel brush. Just saw this at Target for $8. ....annnnnnd drumroll please: - six $1 PEPPERIDGE FARM TIM TAMS. the reason why obesity runs rampant in Australia. Tim Tam Slam, here I come!!! Buyer beware: Read the previous reviews and you will see this is a continuing problem at this place. I took an item to the register to pay. It was clearly marked .49 with a green sticker, as well as the entire stock on the shelf of 100+ units. When I went to pay for it, the owner says "oh these are $1.49". Even though the price sticker was clear. I told her to take it off and the sticker said .49, not $1.49! She just looked at me. Extremely deceptive! Use caution if you come here and watch them closely while they ring you up. Get an itemized receipt. Also, as most of the other reviews state - all items they sell are expired, damaged, dented. The place is a royal mess! Nothing edible would be anything I'd buy. The ONLY positive: there is an African American woman who works there as a stocker who is extremely pleasant and helpful. What place did the other reviewers go to? Couldn't have been this place. What a Bargain is a below average "discount" store; it's not better than any 99 Cents Only stores that are on the higher quality end anyway. The place is dingy, poorly lit, and aisles and products are dusty/dirty. MOST items are between $2-$4. Some are 99 cents, but it's mostly school supplies and off-brand shampoos. I went in hoping to find some of the great stuff others have been Yelping about, but to no avail. No Tim Tams, not great food, etc. I did buy some British chocolate bars, but they tasted like soap; they had been sitting too long somewhere next to something scented. Got some cheddar snacks (like Cheeze-its) that also tasted bad; they tasted like potpourri! I fear a lot of their food has this problem. The rest of the stuff (food/snacks, beverages, clothes, decorations, school supplies, etc) all looks about what you'd find at Dollar Tree or something. Saw some good brand lotions, but they were all melted and had separated. Ew. :( Bought a foaming hand sanitizer, only to discover that the solution had been overheated and it wouldn't actually foam or WORK. Saw some pastas and things I thought about buying, but after the previous bad food experience I'm scared to eat food from here. I did find some nice small plastic food storage tubs which I'm going to store pet foods in, but really it's no better than any other discount store. A reasonably inexpensive store. Prices of merchandise varies. Some less than 99 cents, others over $1 but they're pretty good deals. This store also has limited key copy service if you need your keys copied. Each key at 99 cents. They have some hard to find, don't sell in regular stores anymore items. You'll have to do a walk about to see what suits you. They have food items, beverages, snacks, clothes (not sure about the lingerie items outside on the sidewalk), school items, garage/yard sale supplies, puzzles, toys, decorative items, storage containers and lots more. C'mon down fellow Yelpers. Parking may be limited in parking lot, but come and take a look anyway. read more

Yea I agree w/the other reviewers, this place rocks as a 99 cent & variety store, even the stuff priced a little higher, is still waaay cheaper than those other 99/98 cents & up, (those places are a joke, stuff overpriced higher than big lots) this store actually has some really good items, everything from food to household to gift wrap, make up/beauty supplies, the list goes on & on & on....really good for the students nearby, whether University or Elementary/HS age, as they have alot of school supplies and large postersize boards...I highly recommend it, there is only one other store I can compare this to, and its in Pomona, but I like this one just as much... read more

The WHAT A BARGAIN is awesome! I have been going here since 2005. The bargains there are real and the merchandise is always better than any of the other dollar stores in the Inland Empire. The anonymous review that shows a pic of the receipt and expired merchandise is not a genuine review. Besides, this type of issue is a risk at all of the bargain stores including Dollar Tree 99 cent only and even Big Lots. It is common sense to check the expiration on any food item,I do this at grocery stores as well. As for anonymous, did you take the expired items back to the store? I am sure you would have gotten a refund,remember,every business has quality control issues,this could have been caused by a lot of reasons,bad employees,overlooked re stock,etc etc. I think your "review" would have been a lot more effective if you had gone through the whole interaction. If you had taken the item back with your receipt and the owners did not make it right then you would have had a genuine complaint. As it is, your review looks disingenuous. read more

Neat little store. You have to check the expiration dates if you are buying food, but other than that, there are all kids of items here. This is my first stop for notebooks, notebook paper, pens, pencils, tape, poster board, markers, balloons, shampoo, soap, and misc hardware (screwdrivers, lots of misc kitchen stuff on the back wall). Giving them 1 star was hard. This place is a mess. I walked in there on a day where many items were marked as 2x99 cents. I thought WOW this is a huge bargin. So I proceeded to go shopping. As I get to the register, the woman looks over at another and says are these taco shells two for a dollar? She laughs and says nooooooo what's wrong with all the prices? My son walked with her and said yeah mom you were right as he walked over to me the lady followed saying no your not and was holding a ripped piece of construction paper that said taco 99 cents. I said okay thinking I read it wrong. I accepted it maybe I made a mistake. Then everything on my cart was wrong. EVERYTHING. Funny part was, the one working the register asked, do you want them anyways? I said no. While the other woman kept saying noooo while laughing this annoying greedy type of a laugh. I said why would I place all this in my cart, then decide to price them at 2 for a dollar? O said makes no sense. The I seen the woman with my own two eyes changing g all the prices. Then asked the shipment guy, did you change the aaprin too? I said see..I knew I was right. Your changing them all out now. Again she laughs at me. I takethe remaining items home to find out every single item has expired over a year and a half O-o ALL OF THEM...I mean seriously. I gave them a call to tell them and she yelled take them to me now . I said ALL of my food is severely expired, are you allowed to sell these items like that? She said take it back to the store. So, before I return all my products I'm leaving a review, calling the FDA & reporting to the B.B.B This place is a bunch of people looking to rip others off at ANY cost. BEWARE! Don't buy food items in this place. I bought some M&Ms Christmas candy, so I thought they would be okay. When I tasted them, they were like chalk. I looked at the expiration date, it had been scratched off. I did manage to decipher the date to be somewhere around August 2016 so clearly they were from the 2015 holiday season. I returned them and let them know my concern for selling out of date food items. The woman's response (owner?) was that they are allowed to sell food items that have expired up to 6 months before. They know they are doing this. I looked at all their other candy products and they were stale. If you value your health, stay away from anything with an expiration date there. Come on down if you want buy expired products. You can check out the expiration dates for many of their products and see many are expired. Much of their frozen stuff has expired months ago. No wonder their products are cheap. Yeah, to the naked eye It is cheap but their prices should be pennies on the dollar cheaper because of the outdated nature of their goods. The only reason to go there is to buy their non perishable products. Also, when I was last there, they had this cashier who was charging my products and not knowing what the prices were. He rang everything up as if they were all a dollar and they were really under a buck. Have shopped at this store many times. All over the place with pricing-not everything is 99 cents. What a bargain-NO. What a rip-off. Manager more than rude. Owner would not even admit he owns the place?? I look carefully for signs and "more than 99 cents" price tags. Purchased an item that was not marked more than 99 cents. Cashier says, "Oh that's $1.99-it's marked over there". Went over there-not marked and no sign. Asked for owner or manager to show me where it is marked. He could not. Owner says, "It should be marked $1.99 then asks store manager about price. She says same. I disagree. Let them know it is not marked and there is no sign. That is just wrong to change prices. Owner comes back over with a pricing tag maker and marks the item (in front of me) then he says, "See it is marked". I couldn't believe he acted like it was already done. Not a single one like it was marked on the wall hangers. I asked for their names and business info. The lady manger said she would get it and went into the back area. I waited and then called to her. She said, "I am on lunch" and refused to provide me with any business contact info. How rude! If this had been the first time this place charged people the wrong price or had told someone the price was more, it probably would not have bothered me. However, I have been overcharged before and I have also seen other customers complaining about the prices being changed when you go to pay for an item.
