I could not believe the low prices she charges but I think to her it's more about keeping the profession pure and all about the pets. If you want someone that will hold your hand, wipe your tears and tell you what you want to hear then this place is not for you because she will tell it how it is and I, for one, really appreciate that in a situation where I know NOTHING!

I work with firefighters and veterinarians, knowing so many different vets from across the states I believe puts me in a unique position. I have many of my own pets as well, regardless of what I do in life, when it comes to my own pets, I blindly must put trust in my veterinarians. I also know the pure emotion and anxiety of your pet having an emergencie. All that being said I felt blessed for myself and my dog when we found Animal Care of Spearfish. It was the first time I felt I was listened to. I never felt rushed, unclear, or uncertain about any decisions being made or treatments being done. Dr. Whalen and his staff are the a specialist. He laid it out ,gave a recommendation and let me choose. I am from California and this office is in South Dakota. When you are truly comfortable that your pet is in the best hands, your confidence about your pets health is increased. I love feeling so knowledgeable about what is going on with my girl! I guess what I have to say is thank you, for listening, and for all you do. As to my review. I think I'll drive her yearly for a well check. Dr. Whalen is the best part of my pets Health Care!

We've been taking our 2 dogs there for several years and they've always done a nice job. My wife made the appointment so I asked her and she said she thought so. I dropped both off at 10AM. I ran out of things to waist time doing so pulled in their lot past noon even though they hadn't called. After setting in the lot a while I went in to check and was told 1st dog would be another 15 minutes. Jeanne then in a not nice tone of voice told me I could never bring the dogs again at the same time. It was her who recently told me how behaved they'd been and I should bring them in together. I reminded her I preferred bringing them a week apart and it's also easier on them to not have the dogs acting up with each other. Someone said that's no problem because they have extra help. They'd always done such a nice job but I don't appreciate being talked to that way especially when it was me who didn't want to bring them in together. We paid cash with a nice tip but I won't return.

We were so fortunate to find Martha's Deadwood Doghouse. She worked with us in terms of dropping off time for what was going to be a full day of day care but a very short notice turned into an overnight stay. She made sure to follow all of the instructions we had in terms of food, water and sleeping arrangements for our little ones. She also communicated with me all throughout their time with her and even sent me a photo so that I could know that they were doing great. In all honesty my dogs don't do boarding all that well they're normally pretty freaked out by the next day. However, when I picked them up the next day they were both calm and relaxed which was a wonderful surprise. With her being located less than five minutes from deadwood it made getting back-and-forth incredibly convenient. If we're ever in the area again we absolutely will use her services and wish she was located closer to our home so that we could have someone that reliable and amazing to look after our dogs all the time.
