I have many of my own pets as well, regardless of what I do in life, when it comes to my own pets, I blindly must put trust in my veterinarians. I also know the pure emotion and anxiety of your pet having an emergencie. All that being said I felt blessed for myself and my dog when we found Animal Care of Spearfish. It was the first time I felt I was listened to. I never felt rushed, unclear, or uncertain about any decisions being made or treatments being done. Dr. Whalen and his staff are the a specialist. He laid it out ,gave a recommendation and let me choose. I am from California and this office is in South Dakota. When you are truly comfortable that your pet is in the best hands, your confidence about your pets health is increased. I love feeling so knowledgeable about what is going on with my girl! I could not believe the low prices she charges but I think to her it's more about keeping the profession pure and all about the pets. If you want someone that will hold your hand, wipe your tears and tell you what you want to hear then this place is not for you because she will tell it how it is and I, for one, really appreciate that in a situation where I know NOTHING!

We've been taking our 2 dogs there for several years and they've always done a nice job. I…read morerequested several times they schedule the dogs 1 week apart because it's easier for me to just handle 1 at a time. Today when they phoned I was asked if the appointment was for both dogs. My wife made the appointment so I asked her and she said she thought so. I dropped both off at 10AM. I ran out of things to waist time doing so pulled in their lot past noon even though they hadn't called. After setting in the lot a while I went in to check and was told 1st dog would be another 15 minutes. Jeanne then in a not nice tone of voice told me I could never bring the dogs again at the same time. It was her who recently told me how behaved they'd been and I should bring them in together. I reminded her I preferred bringing them a week apart and it's also easier on them to not have the dogs acting up with each other. Someone said that's no problem because they have extra help. They'd always done such a nice job but I don't appreciate being talked to that way especially when it was me who didn't want to bring them in together. We paid cash with a nice tip but I won't return.
