We bought our puppy named Pepper from Gwenn. It was the best decision we've ever made! She is so sweet and (so far) healthy and very well tempered. We knew we wanted a Frenchie and did a ton of research before buying, after having a poor experience with a "breeder" in NYC. Gwenn knows what she's doing. She talked with us on the phone and helped us prepare to have all the materials necessary to bring our new pup into our home. She was professional and informative and she took all the right precautions when we picked Pepper up during the pandemic. We are so glad we found Gwenn and would recommend her and her perfect pups to anyone. They are great quality dogs. We can't go anywhere without someone complimenting Pepper. read more

I am amused by the review from Peter B. I have not yet picked up the puppy that we have reserved from Gwenn. I've bought only purebred puppies. When one buys a purebred dog, one expects certain breed standards. In the case of French bulldogs, one expects that they won't be weird "exotic" colors, and I've seen such colors advertised when they are specifically called out as faults by the AKC. When one buys a purebred dog (especially French Bulldogs) one should buy from a reputable breeder, not a puppy farm nor a home breeder with one litter's worth of experience. One needs to see the lineage (preferably on-site) to really judge temperament, as the dog will be living with you. One needs to ensure that the particular dog and the sire and dam have had genetic testing and are clear of major issues with French bulldogs. These dogs are a dwarf breed (dwarf traits have been intentionally bred into them for 200 years), and with that comes associated health problems. The testing that Gwenn does reduces your risk. I have no issue with the due diligence that she does. Her requirement that your own vet examines the dog within 72 hours give separate confirmation about the dog's health. Pick a vet that knows French bulldogs, not one that knows cats and horses and German Shepherds. One does not go to an Orthopedic Surgeon to receive diagnostics on Cancer. Wake up. Gwenn was upfront and honest. She specifically told us about the supply list, the supplements, the diet, etc. If one is spending a lot of money (and French bulldogs are NOT cheap), one should be prepared to care for the dog. Period. We have arranged to pick up the new puppy in a week, so we can adequately prepare to receive her into our home. We've had a French bulldog before, understand the demands of the breed, and the effort required to have one. Read Gwenn's response to the review before you make a decision. I did. Make your own decision. We are buying a puppy from her, and that should tell you that as experienced purebred owners, we've thought this through. read more

I have been a customer of this breeder for many years. When I first read their contract, my first thought was that I was getting a dog not a child. This thought was followed almost immediately by wondering if they were going to tell me not throw a toaster in with the dog's bath. These were my first two gut reactions. Thankfully, I didn't end with these but realized that this breeder was all about the health and well-being of their dogs. This is obvious by how many champion animals they have produced. I do not know about conversations with Marie. What I do know is Marie cares about these animals. She is not likely to relax health standards to accommodate the tender feelings of those of us- naive to the field- if we, even unwittingly, endanger the health of one of her puppies. If she felt the dog's health problems were in any way the fault of the owner, she would react. The one thing that was impressed upon me again and again was when to spade my dog. I was even given documentation on the dangers of having my female puppy spade before she was a year old. I was told that to have the procedure done before that would cut my dog's life span. Marie, was especially firm on this matter. So much so, that it was a primary part of the contract. I would much rather purchase an animal from someone who genuinely cares for the dog than from some puppy mill that is more interested in making money than what is best for the animal. Everything is spelled out quite clearly in the contract. If you do not like the agreement, there are many other breeders who are not as concerned about their dogs after the dog goes home with its new owner. I did not purchase my dogs to show. I purchased them as pets but I still appreciate that their parents were of a good blood line and that the breeders they came from cared so much about them that they would spend the time to check on them long after they were no longer their responsibility. I can not respond to purchasing the necessary supplies from them as I bought mine elsewhere and did not have a problem. I did make sure, however, that the supplies I bought were what I was told to get in the contract. From someone who is not educated in such matters, I had no idea that some of the products on the market were dangerous. There have been warnings on television regarding the dangers of purchasing dog products made in China; but these came long after I got my first puppy. That is another thing I came away with after dealing with this breeder. I got a quick education on keeping my pet safe, healthy and happy. As with most per owners, these dogs became family. So in the end, I guess I sort of did get a child. I followed the agreement and everything has been problem free. My dogs are wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. read more

Our experience with Weywood can only be described as wonderful. The owner was professional, friendly and responsible in ensuring that her puppy was going to a good home. When we took our Frenchie Rocky home, we had questions and challenges typical in the first days of bringing a puppy into a new home and family. The owner Gwen was a great support, answering our calls with good advice that offered a quick resolution to our puppy questions. Rocky, now 3 years old is a happy, healthy boy; sweet and affectionate. A constant joy in our lives. It's not easy to find an excellent breeder who first and foremost loves the animals he or she breeds, and works hard to place in safe and loving homes. We came to Weywood after purchasing a dog from another breeder (what we now know as a backyard breeder). Our first BT was riddled with health issues. Buster had skin allergies and bad knees. We were thrilled to find a breeder in Gwenn who cares so much for her dogs. We were even more impressed by the screening that is done on her dogs. Gwen's dogs are not only beautiful on the outside but the inside too. Our boy Buster Too never had an accident, he was litter trained. I know I never heard of a dog being litter trained. He has been healthy and I know that I have a great support system. Gwen gave me all of her contact numbers and she is always happy to get pics of Buster Too. I highly recommend getting a Weywood dog. We are planning on a second one from them in the spring. read more

We purchased two dogs from Weywood. The first dog that we bought was an adult dog. We had not owned a dog before and wanted a grown dog for our first dog. It was not easy to find someone selling a grown adult dog. We searched for a while and finally found that Weywood had an adult dog. It was one of the dog's that they used to show/breed and I guess they were done breeding him. I thought it was a bit odd that once they were done breeding him that they wanted to sell him after having him for so long, but we were fine with it as it was what we were looking for. The experience of buying our first dog was awful. First we had to deal with Marie, she is an older lady and is extremely bossy. We were told we needed to have a vast laundry list of items when we picked up the dog. I had to ask multiple times to get a specific list of the items that we had to have, because all along they kept saying you can just buy all the items from us. I did not feel comfortable having to buy everything from them. So I was diligent about buying all the items they said. When we arrived to pick up the dog (we drove 5 hours) we were told that most of the items we purchased were no good and that we had to buy the items from them. The cost of the items we had to buy from them was $500 (everything in their store is extremely over-priced), this is on top of the $2,000 that we paid for the dog. We left there feeling taken advantage of. They are certainly very interested in maximizing the amount of money they make. But at the end of the day we had our dog and were happy, albeit with a very sour taste in our mouth. A few months later, we decided we wanted to get a second dog. And while the experience of buying the first dog was terrible, the dog itself was good so we decided to suck it up and go back to them again. Sure enough it was the same show. Even though we had prior experience and had all the supplies from the prior dog, there was still "other" items that we had to buy which ended up costing us an additional $200 when we arrived there. The second dog we got was a puppy, again the cost is $2,000. That is a lot of money but we were assured that part of the reason you want to buy a dog from a breeder is that they check them for all diseases and they have very good long genetic lines of breeding. Unlike the first dog, the second dog had issues from day 1. We took our puppy to the Vet and they immediately noticed that the dog had what is known as pectus excavatum. This is a condition where the dogs ribcage is not properly shaped and protrudes outward. We noticed that the dog had this when we picked her up but thought it was just that she was a puppy and that all puppies were probably like that. The condition is something that could cause serious health issues in the future. This is clearly something that the breeder who has been breeding dogs for a while can see right away and they never once bothered to mention this to us and felt totally comfortable selling us the dog. When I told them about this, they said that my vet didn't know what she was talking about and that I should take the dog to a vet that they know, no thanks. So that was issue #1. However, the biggest issue, and what is causing me to write this review is the what just happened. A few days ago I took the puppy to the vet and the vet noted that she has Patellar Luxation. This is a condition whereby the dogs knee does not stay in its socket. This is something that Boston Terriers are genetically prone to. It was also one of the main factors that we decided to go with Weywood as they told us on the first call that Boston's are prone to it and they specifically check for this and have never had a dog in their lines that had this condition, so we are pretty much guaranteed this will not be an issue. I contacted them to inform them of what happened, their response was extremely rude. I hadn't even asked for anything, I was simply informing them of what happened. They showed no concern for the dog, and their immediate response was that it must be something that we did. They immediately were trying to cover themselves. I spoke to my vet and she said that especially at this early of an age (6 months) patellar luxation is something that almost 100% is genetic. We are set to go see an orthopedic doctor, but the surgery to fix it can cost over $2,000 and if they have it in one leg, it is likely they will get similar condition in the other leg. So bottom line, I would highly recommend you not buy a dog from Weywood. They are difficult to deal with, will try to squeeze every last nickel out of you and at the end of the day I would not trust them regarding the quality of the dog nor would I trust them to be there if there is an issue in the future. read more

I tend to agree with Peter B.'s review of Marie and Weywood Boston Terriers. I have read his review many times over and have thought extensively about posting my own review and never have until now. I, too, purchased a boston from Marie back in June of 2015 and the experience is just as Peter describes. Although Marie may be knowledgeable, she is just extremely difficult to deal with. She is bossy, condescending and made me feel like I wasn't capable. This was my first dog ever owning and it was less than a happy and fun experience. My husband and I originally wanted an adult dog and she had one available named Cody which only to find out when we arrived she was considering showing him and he would not be available so she showed us puppies. That was the first issue and which seemed strange to me. I followed everything Marie asked of me from the beginning with the application to the deposit and what to purchase and she still made things difficult and belittled me for what I bought. I still had to go to her store and buy more items. I followed everything I was instructed by her initially and would have continued to do so if she wasn't so difficult to deal with. Who would want to stay in touch with someone like that as the contract suggests you do? Even a coworker of mine felt the same way and did not stay in touch. My dog recently developed idiopathic epilepsy and has had seizures and is now on medicine for the rest of his life. I was of the understanding these dogs are tested for these types of illnesses and that they swear by the bloodline to be free of these diseases. I called Marie back in 10/17 just to speak to her, not to argue or anything like that. I just wanted her to know what was going on and if she could offer any insight or assistance. I guess I'm not surprised she did not return my call. It's instances like this that I question how much they do care about the well-being of the dogs they sell. This example certainly does not speak to that. To me, it speaks to the fact they are more about the business and money than they are about the care and concern for the pets they sell and making the owners feel secure in knowing they can reach out to them in a time of need. Your actions contradict everything you purport to be and how you feel about your dogs and the owners who come to you. I welcome a response from Marie to these statements and would still like to speak to her about my dog's health issues. read more

We got our Weywood dog after we got our first home. This was our first pet as a couple. Fenway goes everywhere with us . We often get stopped when we take him with us. People tell us how beautiful and well behaved he is. We are so thrilled that Gwen helped us and was there to guide us through the puppy stage. We often had questions and she was always available to answer them. She even guided us to an amazing training center and Fenway is working on being a therapy dog. We couldn't be any happier. read more
