Want to be wowed? Want to feel like you're in Africa? Then come and check out Weylandts.
This exquisite furniture, homewares and artefacts retailer has arrived in Melbourne and does it make a punch. Showcasing carefully chosen pieces, each item is unique and definitely a showstopper to have around your house. And by house, I mean mansion.
You will need to have giant spaces as practically everything is of ample proportions. Also, you'd need to give things like this space around it to properly enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship of which Weylandts really sets the bar.
Having said that, there are numerous beautiful homewares they range that anybody could have in their homes too. Prices are around the middle- upper high end of the scale but don't let that deter you in getting the best your money can afford. This place is also fantastic for getting a special present for that special person.
Materials featured most items are natural- think tropical forest type heavy timbers (none of that pine, beech or birch lightweight furniture here), raw metals, natural fibres like linen, jute and banana and leather. Yes, lots of full grain leather in many shades possible that's classic and timeless. Design wise, you won't find funky, trendy things as this isn't the place or the brand for it rather you will find statement classic pieces that are contemporary but mostly still manage to have an air of rustic, cultural reference and boldness.
Whilst this converted warehouse is slightly off the beaten track, don't let the front fool you into thinking its not very big. It actually stretches waaaaaay back and the volume is immense almost like a hangar. Part of the warehouse behind is parking space should you drive or if you ride your push bike, there are bike racks at the front entrance. With immense space like this, expect stunning displays that will leave you breathless. Hint; giant tree root suspended from ceiling, antelope and gazelle heads, tribal masks, bowls and chains and ropes and pulleys... All this hopefully is giving you an idea of where the brand draws inspiration from.
There is a cafe at the front and whilst I didn't have a meal as I was pressed for time, it looked very popular midweek lunchtime when I was there. Coffee is really good though. Based on my observation this is definitely a place to bring your clients, girlfriend or boyfriend, out of town visitors and your mum and dad. Actually, blokes would love this place as not only the setting of the ginormous warehouse is mesmerising but what they sell would appeal to most guys as a lot of it is masculine, along with the tribal influences. But don't let that put you off ladies as many pieces are also designed for you in mind. Which means, it's neutral ground for the couple that wants to go down the middle line in finding their style together.
Service from the staff was friendly- generally they will leave you to browse and take it all in until you have a question or two or would like to place an order for the stunning leather sofa that your children's children can inherit. They are present throughout most of the showroom but never obtrusive thus within easy reach for questions and answers.
Five stars, hoping to always return there for inspiration and admiration. read more
