The Westwoods section of the Guilford Land Trust is a 1200 acre park/trail network, that's accessible from a number of little parking spots, most notably on Dunk Rock Road and Peddler's Road.
There's about 20 miles worth of trails in this area, and we took the White Circle Trail and the Orange Circle Trail, to and from Lost Lake.
This park was actually a bit busier than I expected, especially compared to some of the CT State forests we've been in. We crossed paths with a variety of people, from trail runners to dads with their kids.
The trails have a variety of difficulty, some are relatively easy, and some are pretty difficult, including rock scrambles. We had to do a couple of dog portages on the Orange Trail, and there was one hairy crossing where the white trail crosses the powerline clearing.
The trails could use a little bit of maintenance, there are a couple of uncleared log falls, and some of the blazes are confusing. Still, this was a great park to go on a hike. read more
