The amazing staff is what gives Westwinds a 5 star rating. I feel like most people only leave reviews for apartments based on an excellent experience or a poor experience- not just because! Regardless, my husband and I have had a great time living at Westwinds. Our actual apartment is fairly basic for the amount we spend, but we haven't opted to have the kitchen or bathrooms renovated for an extra monthly fee, which is an option as a resident. Our apartment is so homey and despite it feeling basic, it works for us. I love the location of Westwinds. It's a mile from downtown and close to all the grocery stores and parks. This has been our home for the last 3 years, and we will be moving in September. I think something that is great about Westwinds is how beautiful the complex actually is compared to others in the area. The complex Itself very private, and there are so many places to take a nice walk with your dog. Our neighbors are quiet, the people who live here in general are all fairly quiet and nice. There are families, young couples, and older people. A really nice mix. Everyday, I see employees out cleaning up the grounds to ensure everything looks nice. The property managers are so kind and so prompt. I emailed for something over the weekend, it got overlooked, and she was very apologetic and ensured me to email the weekend emergency email address if I should ever need anything over the weekend. They are superb. Every time I need something fixed in our unit, they are quick to respond and take care of it immediately. I have never had to wait more than 24 hours. When we moved here, we were unable to come to Annapolis to tour various apartments and do our research. We took a leap of faith with Westwinds and we haven't felt disappointed in our decision. We will be sad to go! Like others have said, I am not getting paid to share my opinion. As someone who has to move every three years for career purposes, I understand how much reviews matter to people planning a move from further away. Don't live here. The management company is absolutely ridiculous and does not care. Also, they are making people pay to have guests at the pool, and there's nothing you can do about it. Insane. Every concern I've had was met with condescending attitudes and phony concern. It is maddening. read more

Do not move here!!! There has been nonstop issues since the day I moved in. First, we were dealing with smoke smell, later to find out that apparently this is a smoking community which we were not told this. Second is parking there is absolutely no parking and no reserved guest parking spaces so residents literally have to fight with non residents for spaces. They also only give you one visitor parking pass no matter how many roommates you have. And when you call to ask for a parking pass and ask for them to deliver it to ur door because you don't get off work until after their office closes they give u a attitude. Third is roaches, we have been dealing with roaches for a month now. You also have to pay $10 dollars per pool guest. Whatever you do, do not move here!! I've literally been so depressed since moving here because this place stresses me tf out. read more

I'm rounding up, because I think Westwinds deserves a 3.5. Not a bad place to live, but there are a few things to consider. First of all, parking is an issue- don't let them tell you otherwise. We were assured that parking was plentiful, and it may be- for some lucky tenants who don't live in the clustered apartments. For a while, some guy was using his motorcycle to save his parking spot for his car, so that he always had a prime spot, and for some reason the leasing office could do nothing about that. The response to any maintenance issues are prompt, although I've never lived in an apartment complex where the maintenance people just let themselves into your house whenever they want, instead of scheduling a time when you're home. This has caught me off guard a few times. Not really an issue, except for people with pets. If you can, get a back apartment so you have a really amazing view of the woods and don't have to face the parking lot and be reminded of how limited parking is. The fitness center is never crowded, probably because the equipment is pretty worn. But it's convenient to have nonetheless. The pool is tiny and you only get to bring five guests. Total. That's okay because it's full of kids anyway. The doorstep trash pickup service is awesome, even though the dumpsters really aren't far. There is a car wash station that is available during the summer, and I've seen a ton of people use it, so that's pretty cool. However, no tennis courts as the complex advertises. It was converted to covered parking that residents can pay for if they don't want to compete with everyone else for limited parking. Did i mention parking!? read more

Be aware, Parking is horrible! Parking spaces are occupied in weekends and holidays by non resident drivers visiting friend and even downtown Annapolis nightlife visitors leaving no place to park for residents. There is no street parking. As a resident, if you are not home before 7pm, you have no place to park but to risk getting towed by parking at the church across two streets. The complex offers carport parking between $48 to $65 additional per month. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford that on top of $1350 / month average rental cost. Even if you can, You better off renting other apartments with covered parking for about the same cost with much better service for example The Point apartments. Or for less monthly rental with allocated parking like ForesHill Apartments, Quite Water Apartments, Watergate apartments etc. Unlike the above mentioned apartments, WestWinds Apartments has no located parking, they are too greedy with the cost of their carports($48 to 65 bucks), all they care about is there money, they didn't care of the happiness of there residents. Residents will have to race with non residence over parking, leaving no choice for residents but to risk getting towed by parking half mile down the street, the management is not in the slightest bit empathetic about it, instead there are too busy painting the very few curb parking there is, and if a resident there by park with an inch of their car over the red area, a tow fee of $278 is the fee. My furnish stopped working at some point, it took the service team 1 week to fix it, that is a week of hot summer nights of over 80 degrees, thanks to our portable fan. i spent half of that week convincing them that the AC isn't working. read more

I'm military and moved in here for a few months, this is the third place we've lived in this area. For such a low price I really thought we'd pay for it somehow but we needed to move anyways. Originally we loved the location and that it had a pool, then the fact that we could get a two bedroom for the price of most one bedrooms we were sold. Not only did we get a little care package with toilet paper and a trash bag which is nice day 1 but I also thought the apartment itself was amazing. Good paint, good light and soft carpet compared to some bad apartments I've had. Nice kitchen for even the not updated version and everything was clean and well maintained. Also on our larger than average sized porch we had a little storage closet which was amazing because we've had an apartment here in which we had to pay monthly for a storage closet which was 1/3 of this ones size. Inside the apartment the closets and storage were great space and we even had brand new bathtubs when we moved in! We had to have a doorknob fixed out first week it was I think and the maintenance guy came over the same day. Another time our smoke detector was dying and I called and left a message what apt I was in and someone came with a ladder to replace the battery for me literally 5 minutes later, I was so surprised! So service wise I have to say this was the best place we've stayed yet. Being military they were really flexible with us moving out short notice and didn't make it difficult. The pool is small but nice and the lounge area around it is so cute and cool. The gym leaves a lot to be desired but they were taking requests for things to add so it seems like they're working on it. The parking is bad but I've never had an apartment with particularity good parking, I never had to park down the street here though like other reviews mentioned. Since we've been here they've resurfaced the parking lots, added a dog park (which I don't have dogs but I saw it and it's 10x better than other dog parks I've seen, small but cute!) replaced and repainted some stairs, and fixed a retaining wall that was leaning. Because of this maintenance (which was all done so fast I barely noticed) and the kind and speedy service I've gotten I think this is a great apartment complex and my husband agrees. Especially compared to other places we've stayed in this area we think this is a great deal for the price, apartment, and location. read more

In all honesty, I do not believe this complex deserves anything above a three because it IS just average. The exceptional customer service doesn't make up for the mediocrity of the complex. These buildings are OLD and it shows. Everything in my apartment is peeling: the cabinets, the bathroom, doors, paint. Our bedroom door is crumbling. I'm sure if I were to bust a hole through the bathroom wall I will uncover mold. There's mold in the corners of our bedroom window because it leaks when it rains. The windows are paper thin so I hear EVERYTHING going on outside. Living with a day care in your backyard makes it worse because I hear every scream, cry and whine. Also, laying in bed and hearing your neighbors entire conversation isn't exactly relaxing after a long day (or when they wake you up at 4am with screaming and throwing things). We keep a very clean house and I found two roaches on my living room ceiling. The appliances are all old. The filter for the AC is disgustingly old. The front doors are old. The shelves in the kitchen cabinets are seriously plywood. When taking a shower, there is a very thin line between ice water and scolding hot. Our guest bathroom will only have hot water for seven minutes before it runs out; the toilets are a nightmare. You're not able to put in a ceiling light/fan in any of the rooms. Pretty much all of these issues come with being in a really old building. Every wall and floor needs to be torn down and replaced. The pool is small, but there's a pool. The fitness room is small, but it's there (mold on the ceiling in there too). The fitness room is ONLY available when the main office is open. The office doesn't open the same time everyday, and is only open during business hours. If you get off of work at 5:00 then the gym is useless. There are no key fobs to scan to get in the main building or gates so that's kind of a bummer. I don't really like this area of Annapolis either, so I do all of my shopping elsewhere. Westwinds is just average. The office staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help. The maintenance staff are fast (always come out the same day I put in a request) and always polite as well. The only problem with the maintenance staff I have is that they will knock twice then enter your home. Once I was in my nightie asleep in my room and the guy just walks in. That was the scariest moment of my life. Just imagine you're a woman in your home, asleep in your bed, with your nightgown on, with your child asleep in their room, and some big grown man you don't know just walks into your bedroom. Yeah. Needless to say, my husband was furious. They should never just enter your home. They have no idea what you're doing in the privacy of your home, or if you're in the shower, or doing whatever else. A lightbulb or a dishwasher is NOT an emergency. I did say that I did not want anyone entering my home without permission when I signed the lease. Guess they don't care that much. read more

Not a good spot, Parking is a nightmare. My car got vandalized 2 times, not worth the rent. The gate is a fake and keeps no one out. I advise you to spend a little more and go to a better complex. Its cheap for a reason. read more
