Birchwood Volvo Jan 8, 2022 This just happened to me at…read moreBirchwood Volvo. I spent the morning looking and test driving two cars at two dealers. Finally settled on aBMW X1 xdrive28i, at Birchwood Volvo- salesman- Paul. I looked at Car-Fax and it mentioned a $1000 claim on the front, and a $4000 claim on the front two years later. To me that was somewhat acceptable, and car-fax disclosed this. Birchwood Volvo had their asking price - I countered, the sales manager Sales manger Stuart Nugent offered to take off $200 (of 25,000)- I countered - Stuart countered with -$300. Paul said Stuart didn't want to throw away more money because one of the dealers down the street was going to buy it for the asking price. (Oldest Sales trick in the book) I reluctantly accepted the counter price as I liked the car, and Paul and I started writing up the documents for that asking price. After we had written up the initial documents (not a bill of sale) but first ones that required my signature, Paul went back to his sales manager - Stuart. It was taking a long time, so I went to see them in Stuart's office. Paul said "we need to show you a few things. We went back to his desk and he said: "There was some slight damage to the Right Rear end that you should know about. It's not a claim, but the boys in auto-body fixed it up." I asked to see the repair report and was given access to it. The report was a few pages long. It included numerous parts but the ones that stood out most was: r-inner door panel, r-front door assembly, r-inner rear door panel, r-rear door skin, r-door structure/strut (beam - I forget what it was called) and numerous associated parts and labour. (Best of my recollection) This Car had been T-BONED!!!! and not claimed on a claim report - therefor NOT on a CAR-FAX!! Yes they did reveal the damage before I gave them money - but they waited until I had already initiated the purchase, signed a paper, and then dismissed this "extra damage" as "slight damage to the right rear of the car." It wasn't a claim, so it wouldn't show on a car-fax, and . . .they brought it up after my decision was made and the purchase was initiated on an agreed price. I had met with Paul 3 or 4 times where there was plenty time to inform me of this "extra" damage. Think bout this: If most of you went this far to purchase this car- you probably would have followed through and bought the car under these deceptive pretenses. I was able to read the repair report and with my mechanical background, recognized the damage of $11,000 + damage of a T-Bone accident and withdrew my offer. I left Paul and went into Stuart's office to call him on the deception. All he said was; "all we are required to do is to let you know that there was damage and it has been fixed. We did that" (after 3 hours) He repeated this a number of times in response to my complaints. I called it very deceitful and very poor sales practice. . . . 3 hours of my life I will never get back. - I don't like being played the fool. No apology, no attempt to make a price adjustment (to me that would qualify for a large price drop - for a 3x damaged vehicle - one of them being a T-BONE. Wasted day- and I will share this deceptive practice with others. I WILL NOT RETURN TO BIRCHWOOD VOLVO! They display very bad sales practice and deception and it reminds me of "Bait and Switch" for which there are laws against. I like to post positive reviews as I think too many people only complain, but, I also have no problem posting negative reviews when I am being screwed over. This encounter made me Livid. I am still furious the next day. I DO NOT LIKE BEING PLAYED LIKE THIS!! ps. I also have an Infinity and have posted comments about Birchwood Infinity and Cory (service) who have been great! I wish I could give a "0" or negative rating to Birchwood Volvo!
