Mike was supposed to call me by today since Elaine said she would refund me once I found bank charge over two weeks ago. Sad but I guess I must file fraud with visa!

We went to Westurf today to buy some moss rocks for the yard. When they were loading the rocks they damaged the tailgate on my brand new pickup. The forklift operator was very apologetic and said to go in the office and they will complete an accident report. I went inside and the lady sitting in her chair pretty much said too bad, when we load it's load at your own risk but we offer delivery. She didn't even come out to see the damage. I've been coming here for years, but now I don't think I'll be back.

West turf was where we spent A LOT of money for about 3-4 months while slowly revamping the yard on the weekends.

Along with a VISA gift card that expired at the end of May 2014. We were greeted by the woman(dark hair) working there. My mother n law decided on the Crape Myrtles. However they only had white to choose from. The woman stated they would be getting a shipment of dynamite red and pink in within two weeks. The red is what my mother n law wanted to add color to her landscape. She offered to take my mother n laws name and number down to let us know when they came in and placed it in a clip board behind the register. After the two weeks went by my mother n law called and spoke to Randy. Randy told her that they hadn't came in due to the bad weather. She was told to call back weekly. After weeks of calling she was finally told by Randy that he would personally be going down to Southern California to get them that weekend(now early may). She then contacted Randy after the weekend and he stated he was still out of town and something had came up. She was told to call back mid week. She called back later that week and was told they had came in( week before Mother's Day). She then arranged for me to help her with the trees the following Tuesday( after Mother's Day ). Now We had a close to expiring coupon and visa gift card. Upon arrival we were again greeted by the same woman. She stated to us that she had no red only pink and white. Due to the expiration issue of waiting my mother n law decided to go with the one of each. Up at the register we asked the woman if it was possible to get an additional 5% off of our coupon for us having to wait for the trees to come in. And we were only getting these two because her Visa was expiring soon. She stated that we didn't haven't to wait and wouldn't give us 5%. So I explained to her, how she helped us and took our name down. She then denied us ever coming and ever taking our names down. Stated she remembers everyone that comes in and would have remembered us. We proceeded to tell her how Randy was prolonging the arrival of the trees for weeks. She stated Randy(the owner)would be the one who could give the additional 5%. She contacted Randy and he denied the request. We stated we would be placing this on yelp and she stated she didn't care and to go ahead that we lied about ever coming in. So we told her to please contact Randy and explain who my mother n law was and to let us know if he would then give the extra discount. Since she didn't explain who we were to him while speaking to him on the phone. As we left I asked her for her name and she stayed she doesn't have a name and would let us know what Randy said later. She later called and stated he wouldn't give us the discount. Poor customer service and dragged along for weeks. Two trips to the nursery, numerous calls, & being blow off numerous times couldn't result in us saving what would have came out to an additional $4 savings? We will not be patronizing or recommending this nursery to anyone!

The proprietor would not honor the Groupon for the either the face value or the paid value. I was actually interested in purchasing about 30 cypress trees (bushes), but I never got around to discussing my real interests, being rudely occupied with the Groupon dispute. Needless to say, I will go elsewhere for my landscaping purchases.

I finally did it. After years of seeing "Frantz Wholesale Growers" on plant tags from Costco, Home…read moreDepot, and Lowe's, I made the pilgrimage to the source -- Frantz Garden Center in Hickman, CA. And let me tell you: it was an oasis. I live in North Modesto, so Hickman isn't exactly on my regular route. But yesterday, while chaperoning a field trip to a nearby pumpkin patch for my first grader, the stars aligned. Once the kids boarded the bus back to school, I googled Frantz's location -- just 12 minutes east. Destiny called, and I answered. I arrived, parked, and practically skipped into the nursery. I had to pause and absorb the beauty... which may have led to me walking into a pole. It was that stunning. Rows upon rows of loved, thriving plants. The place is humongous, reasonably priced, and clearly run by people who care. Isabelle Mejia was a delight -- knowledgeable, funny, and fluent in gardening nerd-speak. She even tied a little ribbon on the Sir Prize avocado I bought (yes, it felt like a coronation). Peggy was equally helpful, giving me the scoop on when a particular citrus variety I've been stalking will be available. I came needing nothing. I left with two avocado trees that were taller than me, 3 flats of flowers and a few other perennials. Classic chicken math, but for gardeners. Did I need them? Absolutely not. I already have 30+ avocado trees on my property. Am I addicted? Yes. But these were gorgeous -- tall, healthy, with large leaves and impressive girth (yes, I said girth). Frantz has varieties I haven't seen elsewhere, and I'll be back in spring when more become available. If you're a plant nerd, a tree hoarder, or just someone who appreciates a well-run nursery, run -- don't walk -- to Frantz Garden Center. I'm already counting the days until my next visit. Bring an empty car so you can fill er' up! Thank you Frantz Garden Center for the hospitality!
