My primary vet was completely full so I reached out to Westside to see my 9 yr old pittie who was having diarrhea for 24hrs. They were able to get us in the same day, which I'm so grateful for. Dr Yaple and I weren't able to figure out the main cause but her treatment with GI antibiotics and probiotics was exactly what my girl needed to get back on track for a healthy belly! I was also impressed that they understand the area market And we're not overpriced. Had pet emergency and when everyone else turned me away no new clients.... I am choosing to post mostly anonymously because I do not feel like dealing with the excuses, buts, and defensiveness that comes with every 'bad review' which is actually just a pet parent expressing their concerns to help others keep their animals safe. I will not be sharing my animals names or super specific situations for this reason. I am sharing this to please please seek vet care elsewhere so you do not end up in heartbreak. First, my family dog was told she had a simple infection and that a routine cleaning would be fine. She was bleeding from the mouth and no other concerns were shown and no other tests were done. Within 2 days we took her to the emergency vet where they found she had a terminal illness and passed away that night. She was bleeding internally for who knows how long, and we came to this vet multiple times with concerns and were told she's fine after a couple minutes of looking at her even when she was actively bleeding. At the emergency vet they had to drain blood from her body from the internal bleeding. My entire family is traumatized and heart broken. The vet's office expressed their apologies - I am not saying anyone at this office is mean or rude - I am saying the actual vet care is absolutely horrendous and took a life that could have had more time if proper examination and testing had been done. We are heartbroken. We took our other dog in against our better judgement but because we thought, they seem so remorseful and they just unfortunately missed our other dogs diagnosis, and they're our family vet so really what other options do we have. We were told she was nauseous and said they understand why we would be 'paranoid' because of what just happened with our other dog. We weren't paranoid. Another misdiagnoses that could have ended horribly. That very night, we rushed her to the emergency vet where they found bladder stones that explained her symptoms. She has been put on prescription food and is doing well, thank goodness. We switched primary vets. We're so grateful she received good care and is doing well. I am glad for all those having positive vet care for their babies. I hope that continues. I hope this office does better. I hope this office stops placing blame on pet parents and instead looks at the trends of what is occurring at their office and figures out how to provide much more competent care. That being said, my biggest regret is not trusting my instinct when I knew something was wrong and they were not doing their due diligence to figure it out. Our dog's life was unfairly taken and our other dog was close to being next and I will defend this with all I have in me if it means saving someone else's pet. Seek veterinary care elsewhere. I fully expect a defensive and excuse filled response to which I will not read. I will not accept 'I'm sorry for your loss/im sorry you feel this way BUT' - 'I'm sorry for your loss and failing you and your dogs' should be the only response. read more

Arrived with our cat. They took her in the back and we had to wait outside the exam room for her. Would have been nice to go in the back with her to see exactly what they were doing for her. They said they couldn't do anything for her....i guess they didn't do any tests. We left. End of story. Will not be returning there for her or our other cats. Disappointed read more

Hello fellow animal lovers, I know for myself personally it was extremely difficult to find a rabbit savy vet. Look no further because your bunny is in great hands here. My vet dr. Leonard has diagnosed my rescue with breast cancer and has explained everything to me in detail along with all of my options and risks and benefits to each. My rescue is doing as well as can be expected and that is thanks to west side vet. If your pet needs anything call the office. For example my bunny jumped out of my arms and sprained her hock I called the vet and they prescribed meds for her right away without needing an appt and xrays and everything else. I highly recommend West Side Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Leonard. Dr. Leonard has been my personal veterinarian for nearly seven years; I first took my pet rabbit to him at his previous veterinary hospital. I followed him when he moved to West Side, even though this would now be a 45+ minute commute for me. Well worth it. Dr. Leonard is exceptionally kind and compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. He is an expert in exotics and small animal care and has been wonderful with my cats, some of whom have needed dental work. In my 5+ years working with animals and the vets in this area, there are only two veterinarians that I regularly recommend, and Dr. Leonard is one of them. In my previous place of employment, I was the manager of our pet care department and took any and all sick animals in our care exclusively to Dr. Leonard. I have seen him work with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, rats, and mice. He takes the time to thoroughly explain diagnoses and illnesses to you, as well as proper preventative care, and shows he truly cares for your companion animals. The staff at West Side are also wonderful individuals. I have never had an issue with scheduling and have received nothing but kindness from every vet tech to each staff member at the front desk. West Side is not an emergency hospital and is often very busy; however, they have always worked their hardest to get me in, especially in times of near emergency. They deleted my review from Facebook then blocked me from their page so I'll post here. I scheduled an appointment for my guinea pig as he was making a wheezing noise through their online patient portal. I was lucky enough to get an appointment the next day. However, the next morning I get a call from the receptionist saying that I shouldn't have been able to schedule that appointment since the exotic pet doctor wasn't even in. I explained that I had the email to prove it and asked what I'm supposed to do since my guinea pig was wheezing. I get put on hold and transferred to the hospital administrator who repeats what I was just told and gives me some half hearted apology. Again, I ask what I'm supposed to do. I even ask about the walk in clinic on Sundays. She was clueless about it, stating she didn't know who would be available vet wise. I said "my guinea pig is wheezing so what am I supposed to do"? This woman then LAUGHS!!! She apparently thought my guinea pigs possibly having a URI was humorous! I've been warning everyone about this place as they don't care AT ALL about animals! read more

I started seeing Dr Ruben in 1980. I believe he was fresh out of school. I stayed with him and the hospital until today. 10/2019. I have had many animals in the last 39 years and I took everyone to Dr Ruben until he cut his hours back. my cat Jessie and Dog Pippa now see Dr Leonard, Dr Ruben's partner.I love them both. Dr Leonard is wonderful. He takes his time n explains everything to me and will answer every question I have. (It's usually a lot) He will be very honest with you and will not do any unnecessary testing like other places just for the money. The staff are awesome. They remember who you are and make you feel like your animal is the most important animal they saw that day. They are truly all animal lovers and will spent time fussing over them. They are all very knowledgeable and very helpful. Dr Leonard is an excellent Dr and has the best bedside manor. I trust him 100% with any of my fur babies. The place is always spotless. I can't imagine taking them anywhere else. I would recommend either Dr. Leonard and Westside Vet Hospital for all your animal needs. There the best! read more
