If you want to find your way in life by working with your hands and mind this is a great place to go. Inside those walls of mass confusion, if you focus on what you came for, you will receive far more knowledge, employable knowledge than you could ever imagine. Each and every instructor will take a personal interest in your progression and guide you when you need it. If your scores are up and you don't need any help, well ok then too. No, this is not like going to high school or junior high school. Here, we have, rules and you must follow them. Everything here has a logical reasoning factor. The rules are to prepare you for a good paying job. That is a logical reasoning factor. If you do not like, rules then you will learn to like them. This is how that works, a caring instructor might say to the class, if this week continues as it has since Monday and if your scores are all above a certain average and you maintain your professionalism, we will have pizza brought in for everyone. So here at Ohio Technical College most students are achieving something that you cannot see or, touch but it is there. We seem to find most people enjoy rewards for hard work and that is what we do. If a student is having a problem of any kind his instructor is there just for the asking. There are also many other people that he will know that he or she can go talk to. One of those things that cannot be seen or touched is responsibility and punctuality. They learn this by being in their class on time every day and having assignments completed on time. We do not punish anyone for not being perfect or for being less than, perfect but we try to instill the benefits of completion. These are mostly young people who want to find their own way in life and stand up on their own two feet and be successful. Some of them have made some poor decisions and this is their chance for a new beginning and some of them just never had a chance at life due to circumstances and some are in the early stages of maturity, but they will come around. This is a school where people are being prepared for the future and a very good one. I personally had a class, and I had the honor to teach them their last six months and see them all graduate. One of the students was a class spokesperson and he would ask me questions on behalf of the class. His name was Mr. Heart and I think he had a huge heart. One after noon he raised his hand to ask a question and I quickly called on him. He spoke to me like in words of desperation and this is what he said to me. Mr. Nathanson, this class has one question for you since you will be graduating us. Are we going to get a job before we graduate? Before I tell you what I said to him, please be aware of the fact that most of the students in this class were as big as the average football player. I must also add that very few of them even ever had a real job before in their life. This class of 30 students was comprised of a 30-to-40-year average age and some of them had only one parent. I looked at Mr. Heart and said to him, Mr. Heart, do you want the real answer, or do you want a fancy answer of fancy words just to satisfy you for the moment.? He looked at me and said no, I just want the truth. Please remember that this man stands 6 foot something and is as wide as a doorway, solid muscle and never had a real job in his life. So, I said Mr. Heart and class, please listen up. I cannot promise you anything, but I can tell you this, out of the three thousand students that are attending right now this will be the one class that will be getting jobs before you graduate but with the understanding that you will be hired to do work and not be starting as an executive. You will have to be on time just like here and be working diligently just like here in order to keep your job and to have all the things in life you always wanted. This class had become an all A, average right in front of my eyes, so unbelievable! This is the class that when I graded the weekly test for the first time, they would get perfect scores and I even got angry and called them a bunch of cheats, so Mr. Heart made me have the test rewritten and scrambled to prove that no one was cheating. Someone in the print shop did just that and brought the tests to the classroom so that they could take it again. Yes, and they did the same thing, perfect scores. This was advanced electronics, not so simple. About two weeks before they were scheduled to take their finals two large trucking companies came in to do interviews and hired all of them. I still miss them to this day. We did not understand our parents all of the time, but we knew that they wanted the best for us, and we trusted them. Ohio Technical College is like doing the right thing for sure.

I have found myself very disheartened with OTC. My son was very excited about thier program. I did…read moremy research and found 4 complaints with the BBB. Hesitantly, I opted to give OTC a chance to show me those complaints held no ground. Unfortunately, they rang more true to my gut instinct than I had hoped. A recruiter came to our home and gave a WONDERFUL presentation. However, he told us we HAD to enroll in order to get into an orientation. Strike one as far as I'm concerned... but OK my son is stoked how do i say no? He asssured us that we would have 5 business days after orientation to withdrawal and receive a refund. So, OK went to orientation on Friday, August 12, 2011. As the introduction was closing, I was caught by a comment the speaker made, he said " If you are not enrolled already you will have a chance to do so today". That doesn't make sense to me? I was told by the recruiter that I HAD to be enrolled just to attend the open house/orientation. Not good business on his part. He intentionally required a $100.00 deposit although it was not necessary. Strike two for OTC. On Friday August 19th I sent an email to admissions withdrawal my son from thier college. They phoned me later indicating that I was not entitled to a refund of the $100.00 enrollment fee I paid. I explained that the recruiter had assured us we had 5 business days to withdrawal. I was then informed me that Saturday is a business day and that; furthermore, admissions department not authorized to refund us our money and did not have anyone for me to speak to in regards to that but that I should contactthe recruiter in regards to my sons withdrawal and refund, leading me to believe the recruiter had the authority to refund the deposit. I immediately phone the recruiter and explained to him that my son wanted to withdrawal for the time being due to a discussion we had with his Auto Tech instructor at the Vocational School he will be graduating form. He informed my son and i that he may not need to further is education upon completion of his 2 year Auto Tech. Program unless he was looking to get an associates degree, which he is not interested in at this time. I went on to further explain that upon graduation my son can take his ASE Certification tests and receive a one year work credit from the Auto Tech Program and after working for one more year can earn his patch. So at this time we would like to hold off from the investment of any further education. The recruiter became disgruntled. He informed me that we not only didn't count Saturday as a business day but it was now Friday and we were actually 7 days out. Really two days? Ok fine it was in the fine print somewhere...right? Furthermore, he went on to say that the "Vocational Schools have all the kids that have no brains and that they are sent there to be BABYSAT. But I will see that for myself." Now, not only did he insult my son but he insulted the school system. After he finished his tangent about my son being incompetent he offered to re-enroll him when I HAVE to because he will have no option but to work for Jiffy Lube. Another insult to a major corporation. Strike Three for OTC. Not only will my son Never attend that school but I will be sure that the instructors at the VS and the High School know how OTC views their educational system and it will find it interesting to see if OTC gets invited back to recruit their students. Also Icontacted the BBB. Sad to say, that OTC wont care seeing as they already have 5 complaints prior to mine. I think that the public should be informed of the unprofessional practices at OTC. Is OTC and thier recruiters that desperate or cold hearted that they use manipulation to take the hard earned money of struggling families in today's economy? That is the impressionthey have left me with and a really bad taste in my mouth.

Fortunately, John gave me a great foundation and after a few weeks of solo-study I was able to pass. John did a great job of making us in the class think bigger picture. The test itself is all very practical, real world scenarios. The material in the class is very fundamental, but John consistently challenged us to think about how those fundamentals would apply to real life. There was a lot in the course material that was new to me, but by the end of the class it all made perfect sense.

The instructor Asad Haque was really clear, knowledgeable and engaging. I took the Mon-Thurs class with minimal study beforehand, then studied all weekend and passed the test Tuesday morning. Being new in town and having a child with mild special needs, I would like to hear from any parent…read moreor teacher for that matter, who knows who might give my child needed tutoring or class's. We have had problems in the past (we move every few years for job reasons) and my child will be attending Heritage in 2011! Does anybody know who will either teach him or in some cases, I know some schools have the child go to a special education teacher only when in need of extra help during his school week and I would love any feedback about the teacher(s) who are in this area of the teaching staff at this school. Are you familiar with their teaching methods with mild spec. needs kids? And if you know names please let me know as I would like to contact the teacher(s) sometime in the near future just to talk and get to know them prior to my son attending. I attended a Career Workshop and Parent Workshop on April 2, 2016. I was observing since I didn't…read moresign my daughter up for the membership. I was skeptical starting the day, but extremely impressed when I left. There were over 50 parent/kids there and we had a blast! I laughed and really enjoyed myself with my daughter. I learned more in the 4-hour workshop/party than I have in 2 years from the school my daughter attends. I realized that me nor my daughter are ready for her to attend college. We have a lot of work to do and are behind. I signed my daughter up for the full program last week and I received a box today with a polo shirt, workbooks, books and all kinds of great things. I'm impressed and I am excited for my daughter to explore this journey.
