Thank you Jo and Bonnie for doing such a magnificent job. And thank you Chris, for all the special times I've been able to help. Seeds of Literacy is without a doubt, the best thing going in furthering education.......for free. The staff is as dedicated and knowledgeable in curriculum management as any institution I have worked with. If a student, for whatever reason, was unable to receive a Graduation Diploma, this is the place that will help you get your GED. And believe me, the GED test is now more difficult than any of the tests for high school graduates. There are an abundance of helpful tutors, giving their time and energy for no other reason than to make a difference. And that is exactly what Seeds of Literacy does. It makes a difference...a HUGE difference.

The Polaris restaurant, "Mise en Place" (a French phrase defined by the Culinary Institute of…read moreAmerica as "everything in place"), is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the school year. Mise en Place is operated by the students in the Chef Training program. Went the first time this school year and it exceeded my expectations. Last year had some bad service and not so great food. Decided to try again with a new student year. Sure glad I did! Ordered the salmon meal, $11. Includes a homemade roll, fresh vegetable, rice (I got double veg instead), iced tea, and a chocolate torte for dessert. Salmon had a maple whiskey sauce and it was grilled on a cedar plank - perfectly done.. I could eat it every day, enjoyed it that much. The massive Corned beef Reuben sandwich $8 was made with house cooked corned beef that was not fatty at all. They use a swirl rye bread and don't skimp on kraut or cheese. It came with a huge 1/2 dill pickle and potato salad. Also ordered the white truffle mac n cheese $11 topped with roasted winter vegetables which came with a roll, drink and dessert. Desserts are always a stand out here. Today was an apple struesel ala mode and a rich chocolate raspberry torte. Always save room for dessert - don't miss them! Weekly menu includes soups, sandwiches, salads, entrees and fantastic desserts. Chef O, the instructor for the program, previously worked at the Pomeroy House and you will see some of their recipes included in the menu rotation. For instance, the Pomeroy Salad is a staple. So coming here is a no brainer - get a gourmet meal at a Denny's price :) Notes: The restaurant is operated and staffed with students. Sometimes it can be a bit of a wait to get your meal. Plan accordingly, don't go if you are in a rush. Only open for lunch during the school year. Sometimes it is tough to get a table. Calling ahead for reservation is strongly suggested.. I feel this place is a hidden gem. Where else can you get a full lunch with beverage and dessert for $11? Reservations are highly recommended. I have attended several workshops and also completed the Coach Certification and Gestalt Training programs. I have been blown away by the ethics, commitment, and quality of the GIC staff and faculty. The GIC I know is one of the most open and supportive learning environments I have encountered. Actually, I value what I've learned there more than what I learned in my MBA program. The dozens of fellow students I have connected with at GIC have expressed the same sentiment. We all have been amazed at the personal growth and professional development that have been transformative for us. My only regret about the GIC is that I did not discover it earlier in my career (and life). If you are thinking about studying at GIC try an introductory workshop and/or talk to former students to decide for yourself.

The experiential work which is led by the GIC's faculty is transformative. I have been to two…read moreworkshops at the Gestalt Institute and I am about to graduate from the 20 month Gestalt training program. My experiences at Gestalt have been very powerful catalysts of positive change for me, in an extraordinary variety of ways - my coaching, my teaching, my writing and my personal life. I see there is a very negative review here. It appears the individual concerned had an unsually painful experience. It is important to know that while this does happen it is very rare. Group work is powerful and can stir up a lot of feelings. It is advisable to be in individual therapy alongside group work. In my experience at the institute, faculty are very careful to respect boundaries and not to push participants beyond their comfort. It is true that historically some Gestalt therapists, including Fritz Perls, were not so careful about respecting client resistances. Today, the culture at the institute is much more careful. Faculty will often step in to check with participants about their level of comfort and need for support and whether they wish to proceed. On rare occasions, where needed, I have also seen them step in to protect people if others are pushing too far or projecting onto them. However, it is obviously impossible for faculty to police everything that participants say to each other in group. Also, the work is often deeply personal and so can be painful or create feelings of vulnerability. For instance, some individuals may feel injured when their need to project onto others is interrupted by faculty who need to balance their need with the need of other participants to feel safe. Gestalt faculty have varied backgrounds - they may be psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, coaches, phd's, professors or work primarily with organizations. All have, in addition, gone through extensive Gestalt training. Faculty at the institute bring broad and deep training and experience in many areas. I have a PhD in psychology, twenty years of experience doing psychology and neuroscience research, I am a board certified coach with training from another coaching center, and I am a tenured professor who gets very good teaching reviews. I have a great deal of respect for Gestalt Institute faculty from what I have seen about how they operate. I know many other professionals feel the same way about the institute. It is an internationally recognized center - people come to it from across the USA and even abroad. It is a wonderful local resource for Cleveland. I strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to try out a workshop. It isn't for everyone, but it is absolutely transformative for many. Who would want to pass up on the chance to positively transform their life and relationships?
