I highly recommend Sea Glass Rentals to manage your property. As first time landlords my husband…read moreand I knew we were out of our depth and we were so grateful we found Kim and Diane. They did an excellent job at screening tenants, were so helpful at letting us know where we needed to make repairs and improve the property ahead of putting it up for rent, and had a long list of good contractors etc. at their fingertips. Once the property was rented we rarely had to think about it--Sea Glass took care of everything whenever a repair came up, but also kept great communication with us when it was needed. My husband and I joked that we wished we could hire Sea Glass to manage the house we actually live in. They did a much better job maintaining the property and keeping things running smoothly than we ever could have! And their fee is so reasonable. Absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to rent their property in the Bath/Brunswick/Topsham area.

I have owned a triplex in Brunswick for the last six months, and Kim and Diane have already helped me renovate two of the three apartments and find wonderful tenants. Kim and Diane take real pride in the apartments they manage, and it shows. They have a wide network of contractors and service people to call in when there's a problem, and they find creative solutions to all the little challenges that come up when managing an older building. Kim and Diane are also wonderful with tenants. I have been in their office when clients have come in to pay the rent, and the warmth and mutual respect was palpable. I have been especially impressed by the work they've done to support tenants in my building who have to move out due to renovations. Kim and Diane have gone well beyond the scope of their job descriptions to support tenants in finding new homes. I live thousands of miles away from my triplex, and I absolutely couldn't do it without the help of Sea Glass.

Things have broken down and only the most urgent things get any reply from management, although that doesn't mean things get fixed to satisfactory condition. Until recently, the building was literally falling apart, requiring massive construction that is currently taking place to repair the stairwells and walls in the basement. Meanwhile, any calls to management about basic repairs are totally being ignored at this time. Dogs are not allowed but people sneak dogs in anyway and have for years. Cats can be found roaming as well. The neighbors ignore one another. It's like the adults here have a bug up their butts and don't have the common courtesy to even say hello to one another. Speaking of bugs: Building B seems to have a history of bug problems as the local exterminator was seen parked in front of that particular section on many occasions in the past few years. To be perfectly honest, the worst part of apartment life here are the obvious low-income tenants. THey break things often, have multiple children living in these two-bedroom units, and tend to be the noisiest neighbors. In 2012, when several families were forced to leave due to issues with their state vouchers, the break-ins that use to occur in the basement storage units suddenly stopped. The exterminator has also stopped coming by. Interesting...

Update from my "preview review"…read more.. The Sandpiper Residences have delivered on, and exceeded all expectations. We looked at apartments remotely for months with great disappointment. Imagine our surprise when their gorgeous website suddenly popped up! The apartments feature 9 foot ceilings with numerous 8 foot, fully insulated windows with ever changing views of the trees and sky. The floorplan and styling are both top notch, and our apartment is filled with thoughtful design details such as soft close cabinets, drawers, tons of lighting, stylish fixtures and more. Our building is sustainable and efficient, featuring electric appliances, including a ventless washer and dryer and my magical, magnificent induction range (in some units, some have high quality electric resistance ranges). We pay one fee monthly for all utilities and there is an option to choose heated, underground parking! Yes, please. The list of amenities includes a sauna, warp around porch, balconies, well appointed gym, a Sky Lounge and Sky Deck, a small library and game room, and (WOOT) an induction-centered teaching kitchen in which my husband and I hosted a "Soup and Crostini" Snack Session (so fun)! The best part of the Sandpiper is the people, both the residents and Sandpiper Team. When residents meet up, we often discuss how fortunate we are to be here. The developers, management and he superb Community Manager are top notch and responsive. They had a vision of a better way to house people and they deliver on that every day. There are a good amount of workforce units, studios (well designed with barn doors to open or close to extend the space), one bedroom, two bedroom and penthouse units. The town of Brunswick, and this area are superb. Great food, stunning parks and cultural activities abound. After moving away, I am so happy to be home...

Apex Luxury Rentals - A beautifully restored barn overlooking the water

As it turns out, the house sits right next to a busy parking lot for a beach with dirty water that smells like sewerage at low tide. Cars sit idling in the lot until 3 or 4 in the morning every night; it feels unsafe having them there. The front door lock is very difficult to close and the lock is not solid, offering very little security. The lower floor of the house reeks so badly of dampness and mildew that everyone had to move upstairs; the mildew smell in the bedrooms downstairs is overpowering. When I told Apex about this, they refused to come to the house to get an idea of how badly the moisture has affected that level of the house. The upper level of the house also has a terrible problem with moisture and a mildew smell. Upstairs shower stall smells moldy and damp, towels turn mildewy after 1 use because of the humidity problem in the house. The dishwasher failed to turn on and run the cycle. Apex sent the cleaning person over and she was unable to do anything. They were no help at all, it was just "no, no, no" from them. The oven light stays on no matter what, you have to push it closed forcefully, but then the light just goes back on after a few seconds. The electric window blinds stopped working 1 week into our stay; they had to send a tech over to recharge the motors, which took an hour of my time and attention. I checked out of the house August 23, almost 2 weeks early because I didn't; feel safe there and because the house smelled so bad. The agent, Adam Shapiro, did not reply to any of my texts or calls informing him of this; he just took the money and ran

We were surprised as there was no provision for this in the lease nor in Maine law. Another tenant was lined up, Apex tried to block the tenant until we paid $ 3350. This fee included $ 1950 of agents fees (a double dip - Apex would charge this again with respect to the new tenant), a $ 250 credit check on the new tenant and $ 1250 rent shortage. The dispute was inflamed by lengthy late night emails from Chris at Apex. On legal advice we declined to pay the spurious charges as they had no basis in contract nor Maine law. Fortunately, Apex pulled this stunt prior to our last months rent going out hence we remained in control of our money. We paid the rent difference, we paid for cleaning, we left the property in excellent condition. I would recommend to avoid Apex as a landlord or as a renter. If you have to rent from them, don't set up automated rent payments. Don't expect resolution of issues in the property. If you're a landlord, you should think carefully about the losses you could incur if your tenants depart on acrimonious terms due to provocation by your agent. And they charge you 20% for this!
