Learning Tree After School - Ms. Micayla

My children love it here at learning tree. We recently moved to the area and I was concerned that…read morethere would be a lengthy adjustment period for my kids. The teachers here were so kind and patient, especially with my kindergartener. They didn't pressure her or go overboard, but remained patient and availble. After a short period, my kids were settled, made some friends, and looked forward to going the next day. Teachers are friendly, knowledgeable, and help them with their homework each day.

At the beginning, we were invited to a group chat with teachers and staff, where responses were prompt and communication felt excellent - a major reason we chose the program. Regrettably, this responsiveness faded after a few months, with far more messages left unread or ignored than addressed. Additionally, we received no detailed academic updates about my son's progress throughout his entire time there. Teachers barely greeted you when picking up a child. Maybe this is the norm, but as a Korean mom who attended Korean hagwons (after school programs) before, in addition to being a teacher at an after-school program myself for five years in the past, this felt a bit rude and very unwelcoming. My son can have challenging behaviors, something I was transparent about from day one. I do appreciate that the staff worked with him over the months. However, after his dismissal in April, the lack of communication became especially concerning. I have followed up multiple times about the prorated refund for the unused portion of April's tuition and clarification on the refundable status of the enrollment deposit. Despite this, Grace, the program manager, has not responded since April. I gave her two months before writing this review. Additionally, when I directly asked Grace whether news of his dismissal had been shared with other parents, she assured me it had not. That said, I have since sensed uncomfortable vibes from certain parents whose children are in the same class, leading me to wonder if information was shared after all (my gut feeling tells me it has, because what are the chances? Timing is too coincidental). Regardless of the reason for dismissal, families deserve transparent billing, timely financial resolution, and basic professional courtesy. Being left in the dark after months is both surprising and disheartening. This has been a very negative, unwelcoming, and unprofessional experience. This place cannot be trusted. I would strongly advise other families to look elsewhere.

Breakthrough Learning Center - 2008: The beginning. We started with two chairs, one table, and two students. What an amazing experience in the growth of Gestalt Tutoring.

Breakthrough Learning Center is a great place where students can ask for help on their homework,…read moreget ahead in their classes, and interact with classmates outside of the school. Mrs. Jen, Mr. Avila, Mr. Rob, and other instructors have several years of experience in education. With these experiences, the curriculum is catered to each individual student for them to succeed. We have access to textbooks that students are using in their classes and problem sets for extra work. Furthermore, when a student is completely confidence in concepts that they are learning in school, the instructors help the student move ahead onto the next lesson. Education at BLC is not only about learning concepts taught in books; it is also about networking, communicating, and forming relationships with peers. I have never seen so many students come in with excitement to work and learn. Part of this is due to the relationships that they form with the instructors and classmates. In addition, older students often act as peer mentors to younger students. Not only are each person care for by BLC instructors, they are also cared for by their peers. Success is not only getting A's on their coursework, it is also through their confidence in themselves. All the instructors give their time to not only help with schoolwork, but to personally interact with each student. I have been with BLC for three years where students I have instructed are now entering high school and prestigious universities. Breakthrough Learning Center is not just a tutoring place; it is a family.

They were put into a mixed group and given work; entries to read, analyze, and then write about. The reason for my review all these years later is to share that as a mother who wanted to afford my children stimulation for growth, BLC is NOT a fit for younger children. This program is for older kids. Jennifer Dinh-Avila either had no understanding of what her program is capable of offering or didn't care. She should have. I too as their caregiver shouldn't have been fooled by her reports and feedback. How can a 6 y/o child sit and learn for hours on end? The motivation for this review years later is to save a child(ren) , a mother, a family from the mistake I made. Please notice, the pictures and testimonials are from older children. Jennifer, hopefully this is eye opening for you as we can all learn from this and take it as a win.

Ms. Rebecca was a game-changer for our 6th grader!…read more Ms. Rebecca tutored our son in math and writing, and the growth we saw was remarkable. In writing, she taught him step-by-step brainstorming and writing techniques, and she even developed a writing prep guide to help him build thorough, descriptive paragraphs. In math, she strengthened his computational skills with the same patient, strategic approach. Most importantly, she helped our son feel safe to ask questions. He looked forward to his sessions, which says so much about the environment she created. She also had him say positive affirmations to himself before each session, and he still uses them every day, even though he's no longer in tutoring. He says they help him feel confident and good about himself, which shows how lasting her impact has been. We've tried other tutoring centers, but nothing compares to Ms. Rebecca's approach. She is kind, patient, and strategic, and she truly focuses on helping students grow into strong, confident learners. We're extremely thankful and highly recommend her!

When our son was 3 (almost 4), we noticed he was a little behind. He didn't know his letters, numbers, colors, and other basic skills. We didn't expect him to know everything, but based on our own observations and conversations with his doctor, we knew he was behind on some developmental milestones. We wanted to be proactive and help him get back on track, so we decided to give Intelli G a try. Now our son is 4, and the progress has been incredible. Thanks to Ms. Rebecca, he knows his letters, numbers, sight words, and can even read the short Bob Books. He still has room to grow, but the improvement from where he started is truly amazing. Most importantly, he's developed confidence and a genuine love of learning. We couldn't be more thankful for Ms. Rebecca and the care, patience, and dedication she's shown our son. We highly recommend Intelli G to any parent looking for extra support for their child.
