I was visiting the New England area for work along with a little pleasure and needed my Bikram Yoga…read morefix to escape the cold temps, and was happy to find Bikram Yoga Chelmsford, very near to my friend's house in Lowell, MA and UMass - Lowell. It was easy to find, had plenty of parking and the teachers and students at the studio were very friendly. I went to the Friday afternoon, 4:30PM class with Nancy, and then the Saturday 9:30AM class with Terri. Both teachers were great, but had different styles, which is one of my favorite parts about Bikram...other than the heat. Nancy's dialogue was very positive and encouraging in a slower, more methodical tone. She had many great points and tips while she stood facing the class or demonstrating on the podium. Terri's morning class was very high energy and she really kept the pace going while making her way between the sweaty bodies who all seemed to follow the dialogue in unison - I really appreciated her use of student's names and put in extra effort when she passed by me in a pose! I'll admit, I was a little deflated when I read a few reviews about the studio smell, but frankly, after visiting, I can only assume those reviews were written by people not familiar with a Bikram studio...it smelled fine, and very good when you consider the typical hot yoga studio. You can't have a wood floor in a hot yoga room, people! You sweat too much and there is a danger of slipping if there weren't carpet. The studio lobby was stocked with cold beverages, numerous active wear pieces that were just perfect for the hot and humid yoga room along with mats and insulated water bottles. The studio offered rental yoga mats which were nicely stacked behind the desk along with clean towels which were great for an out-of-towner. On top of the well-kept carpet, and neat and tidy studio changing and bathrooms, I can't say enough about the showers...and the ample supply of hot water!!! As I mentioned, everyone was so friendly, and after chatting with a few ladies in the dressing room, and waiting to take some pics for my review, I found myself 3rd or 4th in line for a shower after class and had resigned to the fact that I'd just quickly rinse off and leave a full shower for later, but to my surprise, they have tankless water heaters that kept the hot water flowing!!!! I have practiced Bikram yoga for over 12 years, and have visited studios in over 20 states so I feel like I have a lot of experience and appreciation for the good and the bad out there. I usually won't review a place unless it's exstremely good or bad, and frankly...I loved this studio and wished I had one like it closer to home! I highly recommend checking it out and to consider yourself lucky if you do live close enough to be a regular. Namaste...

The Vibe is my church--everyone must go. I have always been athletic and active, but after two…read morecesareans just two years apart and with three herniated discs, getting back into fitness required a more thoughtful approach. The Vibe offers heated Pilates classes (along with other types of classes) that have truly changed my life. I am down 80 pounds and have more mobility now than I ever did, even before having kids. When I say The Vibe is my church, I mean it. I am an avid hot Pilates and Tone Strength Cardio attendee. If I miss one of Brooke's classes, I make sure to double up the following week. Brooke pushes muscles I never even knew I had, and after 2.5 years, I am still discovering new ones every session. She is incredibly motivating and constantly reminds me that I'm here for my health and mobility. The mind-body connection from her classes is what will keep me climbing stairs well into my 80s. She incorporates different equipment to target areas I've never worked before, and I *crave* her classes as a way to level up every day! Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or looking for a challenge, Brooke is the coach for you. She will get you where you need to go--and beyond--showing you what you're truly capable of with a variety of dynamic movements. THANK YOU, BROOKE!!!!

The owner, Alison, and the rest of the staff at Signature Fitness have made it possible for me to not only GO to the gym; but actually ENJOY it! I look forward to working out there, and I'm disappointed when I can't make it. Because this gym operates on a daily schedule packed with classes, you avoid the awful "walking into a packed, open gym and having no idea where to begin" experience. You go to a class and are lead through the exercises with a knowledgeable, friendly instructor. They make each class personal for you and offer modifications. Each class is different, too, so it never gets monotonous. There are class times from the wee hours of the morning to after the kids are in bed, so it's easy to work around any type of schedule. I especially love the Bootcamp and yoga classes. The facility is very clean and is fully stocked with professional equipment to suit all your fitness needs. They also have open gym times and a kid-friendly waiting room with a TV so I can bring my child when I need to. I can't say enough positive things about this gym. It's really the best around. Go check it out! You won't regret it! Your first class is always free!

You burn ridiculous amounts of calories and walk out of there a sweaty, hot mess. Despite The Movement Center's reputation for being a dance studio, you don't need to know how to dance to take Zumba classes, so don't let that intimidate you (if dancing - or learning how to dance - IS your thing, they also offer a wide range of adult dance classes, too.) The attendees in our class have all ranges of fitness levels, and Sue shows modifications of moves to meet all fitness needs. What is also great about The Movement Center's adult program is you can either purchase individual classes or a "class card" which gives you 10 classes at a discount. A major plus of the class card is that it can be used for any adult class and at any time. I have a very hectic work schedule that requires late hours and the occasional travel. Similar programs will often require that you pay in advance for six straight weeks of classes, and if you miss one, oh well. That's not something I can commit to. I like that this provides flexibility for my schedule.

Only me and one other student showed up, and the place smelled like a sweat-fest (those ballerinas before us must have been workin' it). Teacher was casual, a very talented choreographer, and hungry because she kept going to the side of the studio to eat her dinner in between instructions. I didn't sweat (again, I think my body was tricked by the studio's aroma into thinking it wasn't necessary) but I did feel challenged by the routine. Only about 1/3 of the class time was dedicated to dancing; the rest was warm up moves, funkywalking across the floor, stretching, and ab exercises. The music choices were contemporary which was a plus. I would have liked to learn a longer routine than three counts of 8, but its all good.
