Brandon Peterson, Chase Smith, Justin Homsey, Danielle Jalbert, etc. (many more) make this gym the toughest -- yet most welcoming gym I've ever belonged to in my life. I had allowed myself to slowly and methodically self destruct. Goals became punch lines or fluffy wish lists. I became sad, incredibly sad, I isolated myself from friends and family. I drank and ate everything and anything I wanted without a thought, and I piled on over 130lbs of debilitating fat. At times I felt worthless and hopeless. I walked into the doors of Crossfit free anxious and desperate, but choosing to walk through those doors has led to a series of unexpected and amazing changes. Brandon Peterson, Justin Homsey and the rest of the coaching staff welcomed me into the box with open arms. On my first day, I was literally greeted by everyone in the box. I enrolled into the on-ramp program in order to ease my transition from couch potato expert to CrossFit newbie. The on ramp program was fantastic. The coaches led small group classes three times a week to other beginners to go over the basic movements, and most importantly they were able to set their expectations of CFF athletes. After my two week on-ramp, I dove into the classes and I haven't looked back. Everyday is programmed and carefully planned. If there is a movement you can't do yet there is always a scalable option that will help you develop the ability to do more. CFF is so much more than a gym. This is a family of people with common goals and a common ethos. This is a community that celebrates first place finishers and cheers on the last place finisher with rivaled enthusiasm. This is a community that understands health, fitness, and athletesism are the keys to longevety, and that they can only be attained through hard work and dedication. This is a community that struggles shoulder to shoulder with the aim of simply being better than yesterday. Six months in, I have lost a total of 95lbs. I have rediscovered my enthusiasm for life, and I am developing long and short term goals (and reaching them!!). Living in L.A. all those years,…read moreI have had all sorts of memberships: gyms, Crossfit, Pilates, Cardiobarre, Pop Physique, Spinning, etc. Seriously nothing has been as effective and easy to stick with as Orangetheory. It's ironic that it's -after- I leave body-conscious L.A. that I get to know such a great workout. I'm a single mom with a toddler who works full-time (40+ hours/week). My free time is very limited, so I need something focused. Initially I was going to join a local gym since I thought it more cost effective. Yes, there are gyms with cheap $10 or more per month memberships, but many of the reviews of those cheaper gyms comment about how equipment is frequently broken, bathrooms are dirty, and staff and customer service are uncaring. Also, even though I would run miles on the treadmills or spend a long time on the ellipticals and lift some weights, I wasn't really seeing results. Having a coach or trainer definitely helps, as do the heart rate monitors that OTF has so that you can track your progress during the classes. With Orangetheory no workout is ever the same, so you're never bored. Within just an hour you get a great workout. And there are all ranges of ages and athletic ability in the classes, so you're not dealing with just thin women and gym bros. Classes are relatively small, so for the price you pay you're practically getting a personalized trainer workout. Personal trainer sessions normally run $100+ per visit at most gyms, but you're paying that for a full month/8 classes at OTF, so it's a good deal when you think about it. I would rather pay my $99/month (8 classes/month) versus $10/month at the cheap places since the results have been great. I consider it an investment in myself and you get what you pay for with the cheaper gyms. I'm now down to my pre-pregnancy weight after just a few months. (Actually, a few pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight.) If $99/month is a little out of your price range, just cut that cost somewhere else and reinvest it here in yourself. And, perhaps your health insurance offers a partial gym membership reimbursement like mine does, so you get back some of the cost. And membership is billed monthly, so you don't have to get stuck in long complicated contracts. And the staff are great! Not the disinterested jaded staff that you find at most gyms. Just a great place all around.

I am certainly glad I was wrong about that, and after one workout I was hooked. The trainers are excellent at modifying moves for beginners or if you have any physical limitations. The team atmosphere and the workouts are like nothing I have ever experienced at any other gym. This place motivates you to get better and work harder every time you walk through the door, something that I wasn't getting at my regular gym. I would typically wander around doing a little of this and a little of that and convincing myself that it was better than nothing. I guess that would be true if I was in the shape that I want to be in, but I am not. At Crossfit the workouts are laid out for you and the atmosphere makes you push yourself to a level that you didn't even know you had. I know that after 6 weeks I feel stronger and leaner than I have in a very long time. If you really want to make a change in the way you look and feel, you should give it a try.
