Decided to stop here on our cross country road trip before heading South back home. I was a little nervous because there weren't many recent reviews but we are so glad we stopped! The rooms were nice, spacious, and super clean. They do have a heavy air freshener but you no longer notice it within a few minutes and the room reflected the time they spend on upkeep. The front desk staff was friendly and reflected the same price in person as I saw on many of the booking apps. I checked in late at night but called the number and they were responsive and politeZ They also have a working ice machine and filtered water to fill up water bottles on the way out. The deadbolt on the rooms doesn't work, there is no blow dryer. One individual in our group said there was pee on her toilet seat. Another said there was hair on her bed sheets. And yet another had mold in their room. Our room was reasonably clean but shabby. I would not come back here. read more

My travel partner and I commented that our rooms were immaculate. However, my room, #15 had a scented plug-in room deodorizer that reeked of fake florals. I removed it as heavily perfumed room sprays can make me sick and give me a headache. It was then that there was a distinct smell of urine throughout my room! It was so bad! I noticed that some guests had dogs on leashes-I did not realize the motel allowed pets. Upon check-out the next morning, I discreetly notified the desk clerk about the overwhelming urine odor that was still evident with the plug in. She explained that they put the plug in in the room because of the urine odor. She remarked that they have a routine guest who uses that room. Yuck. Be aware. Take any room but #15. read more

Room was very clean. Nice and quiet area and felt very safe. The whole place is in very good condition considering the age of this hotel. Air was very cool, bed was comfy. Saw two mule deer in the parking lot early morning. Check in was easy. Highly recommend this motel. read more

If you are looking for a flashy and overly-priced hotel, the Westerner Motel is not for you. If you are looking for a nice small-town motel with exceptionally clean rooms and super-friendly staff, this is the motel for you. With this motel, you are paying a small price for great quality. My family and I have stayed at this motel on different occasions. And each stay we had a great experience. In addition to staff and rooms, there is dedicated parking for your room and it is located just off the highway that runs through town so easy access. A nice room for a great price. The room was clean and just what we needed for a night stay. The owners were very accommodating and friendly.

This is the third motel I have tried and by far the best. The Westerner has a very friendly staff, was clean and the bed was very comfy. Adding discounts for military, shampoo and conditioner or breakfast would make this a five star motel. Try it out and see what you think. If nothing else, you will get a good night's rest! We gave been staying here whenever we were in Chadron for 10 years and we lived its great personality and low prices as well as clean rooms! This week however we were very disappointed to find that the owners Mardi and Russ have sold the business! They charged us more than we have ever paid! The whole personality of the place is gone! All the Nebraska memorabilia is gone. The windows have been covered with black cardboard so you can't see out and you feel like you are in a dungeon! There was no water pressure in the shower! We are very disappointed and will never stay there again! The new people were cold and unfriendly and spoke broken English! I can bet that they will not be successful in Chadron! They do not have a clue as to what they are doing and will alienate most of the other regulars as well! Who wants to stay somewhere that you can't even look out a window and is cold and unfriendly! read more

This has to be the best place to stay in the USA !.. I travel all over buying and selling trucks .. I've stayed in a lot of chain motels that weren't this clean and comphy .. And great price for sure .. the lady behind the front desk is very sweet as well .. I will go outa my way and route to stay here every time I'm within a hundred miles .. Love it! The room is very nice, clean & pleasantly arranged. The bathroom is clean & roomy. The staff is very friendly & accommodating. The price was excellent in comparison to the other area motels. Wow, what a find. I did not have a reservation and I googled, trip advisored, yelped hotels in chadron and this was my pick. This place is a mom and pop, no tell motel that has been maintained, cleaned and managed in a super profesional way. plenty of ice, coffee in the office, no breakfast but McDonalds is almost next door. It gave me a place to sleep for the night, with a bathroom so by the lowest standard it qualifies as a motel. The sheets were clean which I'm thankful for, but the smell in the room was hard to handle. A mix between a musty pipeliner after an 18 hour shift, and a couple packs of chain smoked cigarette. I had covid last year and still don't have full smell so for it to curdle my stomach like week old milk says a lot. I guess you can't expect much for a hundred dollar room but the flies kept tickling me while I tried to sleep. A husband, and wife seem to be running things. She was sweet and accommodating, but he was very rude. Idk if he was just having a bad day but it seemed like he was going out of his way to be a jerk. read more

I spent some time there over Memorial Day weekend 2020 with 17 of my friends. Wonderful facility, and it is perfect every time we stay here, which is a couple times a year, most years. I travel some, and I'm not sure I have stayed at a better place, all things considered. read more

Today 4-24-19 we arrived at the hotel to check in, my husbands work pays for his room when he's out there working. And once we arrived the guy said "I see you have family with you" husband says yes so can we get a 2bed room and he said no, you better call your work they only pay for 1 bed (which is untrue all his hotels have had 2 beds besides this one) and then the lady walks in and says hi what's going on? And the guy says "he's trying to move his family in a 1 bed room for weeks" the lady laughs then leaves. Didn't give us the option to pay the difference for a 2 bed room. Was just rude. So we canceled his work paying for staying there and we gladly took ourselves to another hotel. Man was just rude and he coulda made money off us for 9 days but because he thought we were trying to shove 2 adults and 2 kids in 1 bed he lost out. We ALWAYS stay at the Westerner or Grand Westerner Motels when we go through Chadron on our way to South Dakota. The Inn Keepers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are always clean. The only reason I didn't give them a 5* is because there are no coffee makers in the rooms. I do not like having to get dressed and walk outside to the office for coffee when I wake up. Other than that, it's a great place to stay. read more

We stayed at the Grand Westerner and were very impressed. The fact that this humble motel isn't part of a chain shouldn't deter you. For half the price of a big-name hotel we got a fairly spacious room that was clean and comfortable. On top of that, the woman who owns the motel is very friendly -- she even helped us set up an extra futon bed. There are few frills here, but Grand Westerner is perfect for budget or family travellers and a very good value for anyone. read more

What you get: A clean, freshly painted room, a nearly new bed with a pillowtop mattress that is better than I've been given at several 4 star places, refrigerator and microwave and a CRT TV - well the internet was fine so no biggie, they spent their money on more important stuff. Grand Westerner I got bed bugs. Then I stayed at the Westerner couple weeks later and I told the guy at the front desk about the bed bugs and he basically called me a liar. Then I told him i couln't get on the internet and he was a real Jerk about it. If I didnt have to be at those hotels I wouldnt be. read more

Nice retro motel. Very friendly owners. I don't recommend staying in the smoking room if you're a non smoker, though. I'd forgotten how smoky rooms can smell. And there were some stains on the upholstered chairs. It was the only room available so we took it. Very reasonably priced and the bathroom was very clean. read more

Do not ever stay at this motel! Really, I am telling you to pay a little more money and stay somewhere nicer. When first arriving in the room it smelled like mold. When pulling down the sheets for the evening I noticed as a person that has experience working in hotels that the sheets were not washed and there were crumbs and hair in it along with toenails in the other bed! EWWWWWWWWWW I mean why?!??! So, I went to the front desk immediately to report and the front desk attendant told us we were put in a "makeover room". Ok why in the world would anybody want to be put in a makeover room?! She moved us to another room which according to her was a remodeled room. Now why weren't we put in the remodeled room right away?! So we complained further with management and they were extremely rude especially when voicing concerns, because we don't want it to happen to anybody else. I am serious other reviews on this website make it sound wonderful but, the truth is its the worst and nobody should be allowed to stay here. Just say no pay a little more so you don't end up with diseases from a cheap room seriously it could happen. read more

We stayed at this motel based on the yelp reviews and was disappointed. VERY bare bones. No hair dryer, iron, coffee pot, pool, breakfast -- there wasn't even a little bottle of shampoo! (That was a first for me.) We had to go to the office for tissues. The walls were thin and the people next door left the TV on all night. I know that's not the owner's fault, but it probably tainted my review, because it did affect my sleep. There were several weird stains throughout that I tried to just ignore. There was a terrible odor in the room when we first walked in, but we opened the windows and went to dinner, and it was much better when we got back. The staff was friendly and the price was right. The beds were fine. No major issues, but I probably won't stay there, again. In the meantime I'll keep looking for the one that everyone else has praised so highly. I must have missed it, because I wasn't there. read more
