This place is a total scam. My buddy and I paid $15,200 for an elk hunting experience where we were guaranteed AT LEAST 80-90% chance of finding elk. Total lie! Jeff took us to the worst possible location, where there was no sign of ever being elk. We asked him to take us to another area and he refused, saying we just had to wait for elk to show up. Jeff had no trouble asking for more and more money though... even to the point of threatening to sell my spot to someone else if I didn't send him money by a certain time and day. You'll see all the great review raving about this place on his site... he gets to choose what he wants to show after all. We were lied to and robbed of our money. Worst experience we have ever had. Jeff is. I professional and ruins the hunting game by continuing to be in business. Don't waste your time or money going there. Jeff Musgrave is a huge scammer. read more

Scheduled a 5-day elk hunt, only to be fed a bunch of lies to get us excited. Our guide claimed the hunting area was teeming with game and fresh tracks, but it was all a load of garbage. The truth came out on the first day when he admitted he had no idea why his boss, Jeff, sent us there because our chances of spotting elk were slim to none. The whole experience was a complete letdown, with our guide constantly changing his story and losing all credibility. Absolutely terrible. read more

There were four of us to bow hunt first week...three of us were new to the game and all were excited to see and hear elk in the wild. From day one working with Jeff it was an easy process of getting the arrangements made and followed up with. Can't say enough about that! When we arrived at this camp the building was great and the access to what ever we needed was at our beck and call. He and his companion guide Andrew were and remain the bomb. Two of us are older and have limited bodies for hiking hard into elevation and Jeff was amazing at giving access to easy ground with plenty of game. Excellent guys. I have hunted with them for 4 years and have had excellent service from Jeff and the guides. Every year I see very large deer and elk. Be prepared! $1,372.50 in fines from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, two misdemeanors and 15 points on my hunting license . . . My experience during 2021 3rd rifle season with this outfitter was an absolute nightmare. Jeff Musgrave lacks integrity and is completely ok bending the rules. I contracted Jeff Musgrave to acquire my cow elk tag with zero points as guaranteed on his website. On January of 2021 I provided my credit card information to him and was told my application was complete. Once my group arrived I was told by Jeff that all my licenses were in order, and I was good to follow my guide up the mountain to harvest a cow elk. I'm from GA and completely unaware of how Colorado hunting works and that is why I paid thousands of dollars and entrusted an outfitter to acquire a tag and was told everything was taken care of. Upon arrival we learned that we will be hunting on public land, and nothing about this hunt was on private land. So, in front of my guide I sign my small game license and my guide reviews it and shows me where to sign. Day 3 on my 5 day hunt I took a cow elk and quartered it and began trekking up the mountain with my guide and 2 other hunters. My guide then realizes that Jeff provided me with only a small game license and didn't have a tag to validate the animal. So the guide calls Jeff on the mountain who began scrambling to find a land owner tag that he was going to attempt to use for a cow that I harvested on public land -- which is illegal and unethical. With no luck that's when Jeff told me that I wasn't awarded a tag. At this point our group agreed that we should contact Colorado parks and wildlife and we're uncomfortable removing the animal until directed by the appropriate authorities. His website states guaranteed tag allocation with zero points and I'm assuming this is how he does it. The guide was directed by Jeff to bring the animal down the mountain without a tag in order to make this problem disappear. The other hunters and myself were extremely uncomfortable with Jeff's unethical plan to carry an untagged elk down the mountain. Bare in mind we paid this outfitter over $14k! When we expressed our discontent to Jeff over the phone he abruptly ended the conversation stating his attorney was calling. He then called Tom at the local CPW field office before we could contact on our own. He explained one of his hunters shot an elk illegally and threw me and his guide under the bus. He called us back stating that we needed to drive the meat to meeker to the CPW office. After arriving and with multiple attempts to contact Jeff he was a no show and refused to talk to us. The CPW officer issued me a $1,37.50 fine for hunting without a license and the taking of an elk. So I received a fine and 15 points on my hunting license. After explaining the situation to the officer Tom Knowles of the CPW Meeker field office he wouldn't hear it. After pushing the issues he explained that he was close friends with Jeff and had no interest in the unethical hunting practice of one of his local outfitters. Rather than taking my statement, Tom suggested I file a complaint online. We surrendered the meat and received no call from Jeff, and no resolution. After I drove out to Western Outdoor's place of business, he refused to come out to talk with us. I feel taken advantage of, and feel that it's safe to say this outfitter is a complete scam. This website states too many misleading facts to explain, but I urge you to do your research, and choose another outfitter. read more

In the beginning, I hunted on farms of family and friends, but as my firepower, geographical and species bandwidths have increased, guided hunts have become more common for me. I have not had much success with "hunt brokers", so I have learned to go right to the source. It is important for me to find someone that is easy to work with, who provides thorough, honest and transparent information, listens to my expectations for the hunt, and has high ethics and a solid moral compass. Jeff and Western Outdoor Adventures has been exactly the type of outfitter I enjoy working with. Jeff (the owner) and my guide (Cody) were exceptional in helping me plan my nephew's first hunt and they were genuinely interested in ensuring that he had a good time. Not only were they knowledgeable about the territory and the animals on the land (they had pre-scouted for behaviors and herd patterns for days), but they took exceptional care to understand my nephew's skill level, expectations and limitations. My partner and I hunted with Jeff Musgrave's Outfit in Meeker. What a disappointment!! He didn't bother to respond to any of my letters. I think it says a lot about his character and professionalism. Good Morning Jeff, My partner and I were disappointed with our Colorado deer hunt for several reasons which I would like to share. 1. You told our entire group your deer are 150-170 not 160-180 as advertised on Hunt Nation. You said you never made such a claim to Hunt Nation and we were "sold a bag of bullshit from the asshole broker" (Hunt Nation) that we booked through. 2. In 4 days of hunting we only saw one deer on your property that even had a possibility of being 150 or better. It was a modest size 3x4 with approximately 6 inch tines on average. It might have been a 4x4 at one time but if so it was broken off. If it made 150 (we don't believe it would) it would be by the narrowest of margins. We saw this deer at approximately 800 yards. 3. We heard another hunter on your property passed on a good deer. After 2 disappointing days we asked to go to this area and were told we could not, it was being held for this one hunter. 4. We hunted the "Keystone" private ground that is surrounded by public ground both AM and PM. In total, 2 hunters + 1 guide saw 6 does. 5. Day 4 (our last day) our guide was going to take us back to where we had seen several 140 bucks. That morning we were told we couldn't go there because there would be a film crew nearby. As a result we had to hunt property we had hunted repeatedly without seeing a quality buck. I sent you a text saying "this is bullshit" and you texted "I can turn you over to my attorney". We were finally allowed to go to the area at 8:45 AM after the deer were bedding. On our way in we passed another guide coming out. Obviously we were not being given equal opportunity. In summary, we don't believe that modest 3x4 at 800 yards should count as what you call an "opportunity deer" even for a single hunter much less for the two of us. We would like to know your policy if a hunter does not see an opportunity deer and what you propose as a fair resolution when that happens. We look forward to hearing back from you. read more

We booked a DIY Pronghorn hunt with Western Outdoor Adventures and could not be more grateful to Jeff and his team! After our drive from Portland, Oregon, Jeff personally met us to talk us through our hunt set-up, offer his advice and let us know he was on call for whatever came up. He and his crew made sure we were set up in the bunk house, that we had everything we needed and gave us local recommendations for groceries and hunting gear. He made sure we knew the boundaries in his property and even reached out two a few others families who let us come on their property as well. We spent two long, hot days hunting Pronghorn on his property and had 5 beautiful bucks to choose from, no shortage of excitement and Jeff was readily available when we text/called with questions. His advice PAID OFF and my husband shot a beautiful buck with his bow after a great 8 hour spot-and-stalk. Jeff, Nate and Jonathan came to help us corner the buck at the end of the hunt in 92 degree weather - on their own time and out of their own desire to HELP, it was above and beyond what we expected any guide to do, especially on a DIY hunt. Jeff set us up with the butcher long after he was closed and a taxidermist as well, the same evening. We had an issue with our truck alignment being off and Jeff got us in touch with a mechanic in town and our truck was in the shop by 7:30am the very next morning! The following night we all met up for dinner and it was a fun, memorable experience - we've already booked 3 more hunts and strongly recommend Western Outdoor Adventures to anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience with an excellent team who genuinely cares about their hunters! :) read more

I'm not easily impressed and can always find a problem but after years of DIY elk hunting and getting long in the tooth I decided to pay for a Guided Hunt with Jeff Musgrave and Western Outdoor Adventures. We kept 2 guides and a cook really busy. While only 1 bull elk was harvested there multiple opportunities and missed chances. No one can guarantee success in hunting. I looked at the entire experience and come away impressed! Thanks to the cook from Michigan and the local guides a great hunt was had by all. read more

I booked a fully guided Bull Elk Hunt with Western Outdoor Adventures Jeff Musgrave November 2020. the information I received was that his high country ranch consistently produced good Bulls over the years. Jeff told me that they now have a new lease on private land that he has been waiting for a long time and excited about, and now has exclusive hunting rights. Jeff expressed his excitement of the quality of Bull Elk this ranch produces, and said to me that his new obtained lease holds a very good population of Elk. Jeff said that there will be few hunters per week so this should be an incredible hunt with little hunting pressure. on this 4th season Bull Elk hunt I booked there was only one other hunter in camp. 1). Day 1 the wind was blowing hard and seen now Elk. 2). Day 2 we road horses up and over a ridge we saw approximately 30-40 Elk Cows and Calfs (no Bulls) Note: the horses had been road hard the past 3 season Sept, Oct. 2020 and was tired and road so much that they struggle to walk, and it was a constant effort to get them going. the other hunter who was with me, his horse finally had enough so much that his horse tried to buck him off several times and ended up having to walk back to camp leading his horse 3). Day 3 the horses were picked up and taking out because they were so beat up and worn out you could no longer ride them. I took pictures of their hair and skin on their back, showing sign of the skin rubbed raw. so on Day 3 we used a Polaris Side by Side with the Guide the other hunter and myself. we saw approximately 6 Elk, Cows and Calfs, no Bulls. 4). Day 4 we used the Polaris Side by Side again and only saw 3 Elk Cow and Calfs No Bulls. 5). on Day 5 we used the side by side. saw one Cow Elk that morning and Late that morning the Guide said we would drop him off at the top and I and the other hunter would take the side by side down a finger ridge flat (a short distance) while the guide would push walk the thicket. it was only a short time that I could here the Guide talking on his cell phone. that early afternoon we found ourselves back in camp at the Lodge to find Jeff Musgrave waiting for us to take our side by side when we arrived. And so we would not have transportation to hunt the last day, afternoon and evening. Later after feelings of frustration and disappointment from Jeff saying he was going to take the side by side the guide later said that he talked Mr. Musgrave into leaving the side by side. So we did get to hunt the last days late afternoon/evening. we saw only one cow Elk and one Calf Elk that evening. I do want to give credit where credit is due, the cook was nice the food was good and plenty of it and the guide was nice. the other hunter the cook and guide and myself had good conversations and laughs. As far as Jeff Musgrave, he could careless about you, your success. And his demeanor is very unprofessional and non caring. Jeff Musgrave promotes consistently, fantastic, good population, exceptional, incredible hunts which is false. I did not see a Bull Elk nor have any shot opportunity. If you want to waste your money, if you want to waste your time, if you want to waste your years, then Jeff Musgrave's outfit Western Outdoor Adventures is the place for you. read more
