This company charged us $5,850 for their crew of three guys a total of 8.5 hours onsite. I believe their prices are up there with what a highly-skilled contractor would charge, and in my opinion there is not much skill needed to do their work. It seems more labor intensive than specialized and any DIYer can do it if they google how to get and keep bats out of their home. Unfortunately we will not know how effective their work is until the bats start coming back in late spring. Even if they do come back, there is no way I am contacting this company again and dealing with their CFO, Rebekah. Right from my initial email mentioning to Rebekah that I was dissatisfied with the value I was getting, instead of making any effort to make things right with me, she became accusatory and went into long explanations as to why they charge the prices they do. She even threatened me when she made this statement (exact quote): "We will contest and defend against any defamation." Defamation is making a false claim about a company that damages their reputation. I have made no false claims about their company. I have only posted what my experience has been, my opinions about their work and how I've been treated. Yet Rebekah keeps saying I'm making false statements but is never specific about what they are. This is not a sign of a healthy company to have customer service handling their customers this way. Take a look at Rebekah's responses to dissatisfied customers on Yelp. Had I read those before contacting this company, I definitely would have looked elsewhere. Rebekah hired a lawyer to threaten me to take my reviews down. Based on what Rebekah told him, he accused me of coercion, extortion, making misleading and fraudulent statements, and libel. Below is a summary of my email interactions with Rebekah. You'll probably see that her accusations are extremely exaggerated. Again, not a sign of a healthy company to have to resort to these kinds of threats. Email #1: I said I didn't feel we were getting good value (8.5 hours hrs. onsite for a crew of 3 for almost $6k!) and asked if she could include some work that should have been on the initial work order, such as fixing a small amount of stucco on the back porch. I said if not, my dissatisfaction (with the overall value of their work) would be reflected in my review. Email #1 response: She said I had to pay for any additional work and didn't appreciate that I was threatening to write a bad review if she didn't give me free work (I didn't say that exactly but she sure jumped to that conclusion). She stated that there was much more involved than time spent working onsite such as training, job prep, commute time, cost of the work truck, gas, insurance. She went on to tell me how dangerous the job is due to diseases from bats as another justification for their high price. (Just a side note: there was bat guano up in the corners of the front porch so why weren't any of the guys wearing masks, safety goggles and gloves while stripping it out if it's that dangerous?) Email #2: After she explained that the stucco was too much work to do for free (which I hadn't realized prior to that) I then mentioned that sanitizing the front porch where the crew had just removed lots of bat urine and poop really should have been included in their overall service and it was an oversight that it wasn't. (It probably would have taken her crew a half hour to do, and it would have made me happy, but making me happy was apparently not Rebekah's goal.) I told her that all I was hearing was excuses as to why they charge the high prices they do and she was not addressing my concerns about not getting proper value for my money, and that this would be reflected in my review. Email #2 response: She flat out refused the sanitizing of the front porch and then said the following (exact quotes): "I understand you are unhappy, and this appears to be how you respond when you do not get what you want." She went on to say: "In my view, I could see you doing this when you go into get an oil change and then becoming upset that the shop did not rotate your tires or perform a smog inspection, change your spark plugs, because you don't like the price and feel More should be included." Email #3: I told her that I would include her statements in my review and to have a nice life. I was obviously getting nowhere and I had enough of her insulting comments. read more

Communication is very difficult, incomplete and rude. I hired them to help with a bat problem at a home my elderly parents own. I requested an invoice mailed so they could pay by check. Company sent invoice to wrong address and would not resend to correct address, so proceeded to treat us rudely and threatening late fees for late payment. We never got mailed invoice, but paid by credit card to avoid fees threatened. That was not our preference. Very unpleasant to work with owner and team. Find another provider instead! read more

But they still decided to charge $150 for a report stating the ... bats were my eaves. No kidding!! Such a waste of time and money. We did not hire this company - nor would we ever - due to: * their outrageously high estimate, * suggesting unnecessary overkill work, * refusal to give an actual reference (as opposed to filtered reviews they select for their website), * demand for payment of the worthless estimate within 10 days (not even the customary 30 days), * posting false Yelp reviews (the 4/14/23 review appears to be written by the owner herself!) * overbearing attitude, and poor business ethics. The men from Western Bat were knowledgeable, experienced, and polite. They did a thorough job and were very willing to answer any questions. Bats in the house were driving us crazy, and I searched all over for a company that would deal with that problem (we are located in northern California). They were the only ones willing to come to our semi-rural area. They are not cheap; it cost thousands of dollars to bat-proof our very large house, but we had to have it done and it was worth it, especially for sanitary reasons. I wish I had read the recent Yelp reviews before contacting Western Bat Specialists. Rebekah (CFO) - who I see has also previously responded to negative reviews - has already let me know that she will respond to any 'untruths' I might share, similar to how she's responded on Yelp before. So, expecting that here. Just interested in sharing facts so that no one else goes through what we went through (and what we are learning many others have, too). Similar to another reviewer, we had appointments rescheduled due to 'scheduling changes due to many circumstances' and no communication for a month after our initial visit because 'this time of year can get very "Batty" and with a few unknown factors we unfortunately didn't get your report to you in a timely manner.' The delays weren't a big deal because it was hibernation season, so all was fine. Eventually, we were able to move forward toward a contract and the process that ensued was a bit convoluted and filled with errors, delays and miscommunication. The staff handling the contracts were pleasant and quick to resolve errors but there was still a lot of back and forth via email. We thought we'd worked it all out (and no additional emails were sent/received) until we received a surprising and aggressive email from Rebekah demanding that we sign (yet another revised) contract. In said email, she berated our family for not having returned phone calls over the previous week, called us unprofessional and threatened to revoke our contract if we didn't respond within 24 hours. We responded to the email immediately in an effort to suss out the discrepancy and clearly expressed that we would like to move forward with the bat exclusion. We requested a new, accurate contract and agreed to sign (again). What ensued was a slew of caustic emails from Western Bat Specialists and the cancellation of our contract citing 'clients refused to sign the contract,' which was untrue. Her final email wrapped up with "We will continue to shine and make people so happy with our smiling faces and warm greetings" in bold with one last jab about our family's integrity. I actually believe that shining and making people happy is true of most people we interacted with at WBS. It's sad that one person - the point person for their process, customer service and finalizing contracts - can have such a negative impact. They may be great for excluding bats - we will never know - but be aware the the process can quickly go awry, resulting in what I think is the worst customer service I've ever experienced, anywhere. read more

This company has severe communications problems, and its higher-ups are terrible at customer service. Knowing nothing about bat abatement, we scheduled an appointment for an inspection. We were told at the time that it was good we called, because the company does no abatement past Nov. 15 (implying this was a state guideline). We scheduled for Nov. 5. No issues. On Nov. 4th, we learned our appointment need to be moved to Nov. 12. Again, not an issue, but because the inspection was for late in the day, we were concerned about getting the follow-up work done by the 15th, especially since they said they would reschedule it for Nov. 25. This confused us. It directly contradicted what we were originally told. Further, the person informing us of the new time said they couldn't do the abatement if the weather changed. We asked what would happen if it got cold--no response except that they couldn't control the weather. But what about the needed work? No answer--only that they couldn't control the weather. We asked to speak to a manager/supervisor for clarification. That person opened with "I understand you aren't happy with your appointment time." No, not true. We just want to be sure the work would get done by the Nov. 15 deadline we were told was inviolable. Again, we are told that no one could control the weather and that we did not understand. We tried to explain what we had been told, but the supervisor/manager (owner?) would not be silent long enough to hear our concerns, raising her voice, ignoring our questions, and continually talking over us. She then said she was cancelling our appointment altogether. WHAT? We just want to know what the deal is. Why can't we be simply told what happens if the work isn't completed by the 15th? Is that not really the deadline? We assured her that we want to have the work done. Finally, we managed to glean that we could do it in the spring if got too cold before they could complete it. Again, FINE. That was the information we should have received in the VERY FIRST CALL when we scheduled the appointment. Instead, we were being yelled at by the manager/supervisor because we felt obliged to complete the work by Nov. 15 (which we were originally told we MUST do). Let me be clear, we NEVER COMPLAINED about having our appointment moved. We simply wanted clarification, but because the person we spoke with lacks the patience, communication skills and good grace to actually explain the company's procedures, she unilaterally cancelled us. This could have easily been handled by that supervisor. After hearing our concern/confusion, she could have said, "If the weather stays nice, we can go beyond Nov. 15; if it changes before the scheduled abatement, we will put you down for spring." No problem. Got it. Instead, she was confrontational, rude, and insulting. Only after much shouting on her end, did we get the information we needed. By then our relationship was completely irreparable. We honestly did not understand her hostility. From this interaction, I can only conclude that this business is not interested in making sure its customers actually know what is going on. Its representative became defensive, raised her voice, cancelled our appointment, and hung up on us. She did not try to resolve our concerns; she did not listen; she answered the phone with a chip on her shoulder, ready to dismiss us. Truly unprofessional. If this is the way this company handles sincere queries, I can only imagine how reliable and communicative it is if a real problem arises. Avoid them. P.S. In the email we received cancelling our appointment the VP/CFO Rebekah Wright wrote, "If any disparaging, inflammatory, and untrue statements are made about our company, we will respond and damages will be sought." I have also since learned from other reviews online that this company has a plethora of complaints concerning customer service. Not only does this company lack integrity (we NEVER demanded a specific date--merely clarification--so there is a truthfulness issue at work here), but the company also has a practice of mistreating (and apparently threatening) customers. I called Western Bat Specialists because we had a bat flying upstairs in one of our rooms. It looks like it came from our attic. We had at great experience with them. From the initial booking they were very friendly, helpful and quick. I got some good info on their website to educate myself. They were able to come out the next day after I called them. Josh and Devon were very professional and informative while they were on site. Luckily, they did not find any bat droppings or signs of any additional bats. They offered to seal up some holes they found, but we not pushy at all. I was surprised by how expensive it was to bat-proof my 2,700 two-story. $2,200! Dang. Nice guys, though. It took them about 4 to 5 hours to complete the work. But I recently had some other workers on the roof to check for areas that roof rats might get into the attic. The rat guys told me that some of the bat-proofing work around the drip edges of the roof was sloppy and actually created some new gaps big enough for rats to enter the attic. Not happy about that. For $2,200, I was hoping for perfect work. Hopefully the bats won't come back. read more

We had been having bat problems for years. Initially it was not such a big deal but by the time we called Western Bat Specialist the problem was out of control. They were extremely professional and friendly. And they guarantee their work for 1 year. We were hearing bats (not as many) 8 months after they sealed our house and they came and checked all the sites and added netting. I think the netting was more for me than the bats! Do not believe their estimates. I have a simply-constructed home and needed simple exclusion and provided clear information up front to obtain an estimate. Final price came in 30% OVER high end of range I was given. And that was supposed to include services and materials they didn't supply. Final invoice has no detail or any costs broken out, just a total. How long have they been in business? I'm not happy with the service up front and wish I had gone with someone more local and better. I do not recommend doing anything over the phone and encourage you to scrutinize everything up front. Get the details in writing. read more

The cost to do the exclusion and some caulking on our 2700 sq. home that is 2-story on one side with easy access came to $2200. This involved 2 technicians working for about 3 hours who caulked some areas and installed about 3 ft. of net with exclusion in one area and exclusion set up in one or two gutter areas. The guarantee for this work is only one year. It does appear the bats have left. It took about 5 days, but think they are gone from our eves. When they caulked, they did so in an area under our 2nd floor wood deck, where we had spent a significant amount of money to have underdecking panels installed. They basically glued the panels to our wood siding and we now have to spend a day removing the thick and ugly caulking from the white panels and siding. They never discussed the need to do this beforehand and only pointed it out afterward, even mentioning that it wasn't an area where bats would go, but they did it anyway. This morning I discovered that one of our exterior roller blinds had caulking smeared on it from an area they did above a large window. I had to gently unroll the blind as it was glued together because the caulking seeped through the fabric. Once unrolled, I can see that it has a column of 6 caulking smears, 2-3 inches wide on the brown fabric. I have no idea how to remove it. This is a custom blind costing several hundred dollars. So we spent $2200 for 6 hours work, but now have to spend several hundred dollars to replace a roller blind as well as a full day to repair our underdecking that cost several thousand dollars. This was something I never could have imagined would occur due to bat exclusion work. We did complain to the company about the underdecking mess, but they made no offer to reimburse us. read more

Who you gonna call? Western Bat Specialist !!! So I'm not scared of much but I just don't do bats. I had a two separate Bats flying in my house two days in a row. I know what your thinking. I should of just burned my house down. Well that was my first thought but cooler heads prevailed. So they came out found the bats and did what they do. Seal and leave an exit for them. Now I figured it was going to cost a few thousand so I was expecting to pay huge but luckily my house was pretty well sealed and he gave me two prices. He knew I was willing to pay both prices. I asked him what option he would choose if he owned the house and said he would probably choose option 1 what was cheaper option . That proved to me he wasn't trying to hustle me. He also pointed other spots I could seal to make sure they didn't come back but he didn't think the bats would go there to get in to those spots. 5 Stars! Class act! True professionals! And that is just to start. We have a large home that had been invaded by bats. And when I say invaded, I mean a nasty, smelly, wall and roof damaging invasion. Our whole house smelled like cats had peed all over for years. It was the bat urine and guano in our walls and roof! If I sat in the most damaged rooms for too long, my eyes would literally burn and water. I started down the route that most would...I called an exterminator. Nope, they don't handle bats. After some searching on Google, I found some local contractors who advertised bat work and said they could handle the job. During my search I also found Western Bat Specialists, and I am so glad I did. I called them, and they patiently educated me about bats. I learned that because bats are a protected species, there is a season and a very specific process for removing them and then correcting the damage they leave behind. I quickly realized that this was not a "one man" type of job. The entire team at WBS worked diligently with me for months as we worked with the insurance company, conducted exclusion work, submitted reports, met with insurance adjusters for inspection after inspection. They were always happy to take my call, answer all my questions (and I had A LOT of questions!), and schedule work to my convenience. They arrived on time every time, worked for 10 to 12 hours a day to keep their promise of completing the job in 3 days, communicated with me throughout the entire process and treated me and our home with respect. They tore out walls, replaced sheet rock, repainted and even happily took on "extra" projects I kept adding to the list. Our home is now bat free and smells clean and fresh! I cannot say enough good things about the entire team at Western Bat Specialists. From the ladies at the corporate office who were in constant communication with me on the phone and email, to the foreman and his crew who did the physical work at our house. Stellar human beings!
