The first time at Westerly packing, I anticipated only a butcher shop with an array of meats. It was so much more. There is an Italian market with a fairly large selection of pastas, sauces and other groceries which were unique to the area. I found squid ink pasta which was delicious when cooked at home. I also purchased one of the made in store Boston cream pies. It was delicious! While I seldom ever post anything regarding food service/reviews, I am with this entry.My wife and adult "kids" were planning my son's bday celebration when my son requested a "foodie" trip to Westerly Packing as part his bday celebration, as he was awed by his initial visit earlier. My wife, daughter, son and his girlfriend all went on 5/1/21, and purchased several things, including a container of lobster bisque for Dad...me. They all were in all of the facility, highly impressed at the huge amount of offerings. I just tried some of the bisque and was very surprised. While the color and smell indicated lobster, the only taste and texture of the soup was... broccoli, totally watered down broccolI, chewable pieces and all. HORRIBLE. Just finished Christmas dinner. We got nearly everything from Westerly Packing. Ordered a tenderloin, half tray of garlic mashed potatoes, half tray of green beans almondine, half tray of sausage and peppers, a dozen of baked stuffed shrimp and two different gravy's, one Gorgonzola red wine and an herb au jus. Everything was incredible! We're sitting here talking about how incredible the meat was and everything else. Thank you Westerly packing. You are all on your game!! Pick up was ready and seamless, lots of staff working the meat counter and deli counter for pick up, and checkout was a breeze. In and out in less that 20 minutes. It's been almost 4 years since my last review and I thought it was time for an update. The people here are just as friendly as they were four years ago even though there are new faces. Just as knowledgeable as well and willing to help, whatever your questions may be. Prices are still on par, if not better, than anything you can get at your local grocery store. But the quality of meat is definitely better. In addition, I recently found out there are many restaurants that get there meat from this local store. So whether you are in the mood for a delicious family roast, smoking some brisket, or a simple backyard barbecue with hotdogs and hamburgers, this is the place to go. read more

If you are a carnivore, you need to put this place on your list. We are very fortunate to have this place close by. We buy all our meat here and you can get anything you want in one stop. The people are friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. When you purchase boneless chicken breasts they will filet & mallet for you, what a treat! Soupy & sausage best around. They have an excellent sausage beef meatloaf mixture. The bundles are the way to go, extra thick bacon is icing on the meat cake!! If you don't like the 'traditional' meats, there's also a section with duck, geese, rabbit, venison, etc. We recently adopted a large (beautiful!) black german shepard mix and the smokey bones are a huge hit! read more

Somehow I've never discovered this place in all my years of travels in Southern Rhode Island. This is a lively, bustling Italian grocery store in the otherwise quiet, distant part of Westerly no one visits unless you live there. Their selection of Italian delicacies, meats, and imported products are unmatched in this area. The number of people filling their carts and baskets is a perfect indication of how good the store is. You must try the sandwiches! The Italian cold cut sandwich was perfect, with the right balance of cold cuts, bread, cheese and seasonings. The chicken cutlet sandwich was also perfectly flavored and balanced. Better than many other places (and there are many). The only downside is that the prices for many items are more expensive than the other large supermarkets since they are imported. But then again, you will not find many of the things they sell in a Stop and Shop or Shaws. In conclusion, whether you're looking for pasta, specialty coffee, or lunch, you must give Westerly Packing a visit. read more

This place is great! Full service butcher. They also have delectable premade foods. Reasonable prices for fresh meats. They also have a lot of imported goods from Italy that aren't found other places. If you live out of state they do mail order soupy. If your in Westerly I recommend stopping in. read more

Neat place. Nothing fancy for sure but a great place to buy meat for smoking, barbecuing, steaks for grilling. They make their own sopressata and you can get it in mild, medium and hot. Delicious. A section of the building is dedicated to bulk sizes of restaurant supplies. I got a 8.5# pork butt there to put in a smoker and it was great quality and inexpensive. A specialty store for sure and a bit off the beaten path but a diamond in the rough for sure. read more

So I went to pick up my pig I ordered 2 weeks ago and paid the deposit 2 weeks ago the price I was quoted was 2.99 a pound. When I picked it up I was informed that the cost would now be 3.59 a pound..... The day before my event is to happen I had no choice but to accept there strong arm tactics. I drive 75 miles each way numerous times yearly because they are simply the best.The Italian sausage is the leanest you will find anywhere but does not lack any flavor. It is offered in link or ground and both are fabulous!The ground formed into burgers is great with peppers and onions.The supi salami is something one will end up finding a craving for.They have the full butcher shop to choose from also.This is a hidden jewel that is worth the roadtrip! read more

This is the best place. I have been shopping here for years. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The meat is the best. Had the meatball mix the other night and will never try and make my own again. When ever I am here from Florida I stock up on the Soupy and sharp provolone.
