After many years of having my furbabies treated at this practice, I'd had mostly good experiences…read morefor the first 10 years and then things changed.. Until several years ago when new inexterienced Vets arrived. One their new vets Miranda Lemyre had been giving my small dog physicals. She made no effort to find a way to look at his teeth. My husband did not insist. Shane lost most of his teeth and Dr Lemyre's behavior was awful when I called for help. I had to have Dr. Coates take over his care for pain management and SubQ fluids when he would not drink and moaned for 2 days. Dr Sims is someone I never want to see again, ever. Her way of treating me after the incident with my dogs tooth extraction and my complaint about Dr Lemyre was very unprofessional. She gave me a rough "hug" stating that just because Dr Lemyre was not warm and fuzzy (paraphrasing) didn't mean she wasn't a good vet and that small dogs loose their teeth. Our other small dog was given dental care early and has lost a few teeth only. The way Dr Sims euthanized one of our other dogs was awful, horrific. I have other things I could say about her but don't have the space. In general we now have Lap of Love come to our home when that awful time comes. It's night and day difference than it ever was at N Elm. I had confidence in Dr Parsons and Dr Reyes that was misplaced. I had a cat that we rescued from the shelter. She developed a rare horrible condition that was almost impossible to treat and we made the awful decision to euthanize her. I have since did the research and found success stories in treatment. we should have taken her to a specialist but listened to Dr Parson's instead. When I told Dr Parsons that we adopted another shelter cat she literally turned around and stood in the corner of the room for a few minutes. I was told we had terrible luck with cats. I'm 72 years old and have had cats all my life that have lived to old age. I felt insulted. There's more to that story but I will stop here. N Elm Animal Hospital is very expensive, much more expensive than the practice I now go to for my vet care. Lawndale Vet Hosp has been great, a medication my dog is on costs $30 less at Lawndale than N Elm.

Dr. Magnotta was her first vet and she was great! Ver compassionate and took very good care of Millie. But she left not long ago and I was nervous who would be Millie's next vet there. Shep, our other fur baby began his visit there and Dr. Barker (ha ha) was his vet. She was just as awesome! Shep is older (black lab, about 15-16 yrs) and has trouble with his back legs so we needed to find a solution to help alleviate his pain. He wouldn't go up and down the stairs at home nor the ramp we built for the back deck. Anyway Dr. barker started him in Adequin shots and I swear Shep was a whole new dog! So now Mille and Shep both see Dr. barker and I'd recommend her to anyone looking for a vet. Bottom line, the staff at Guilford Jamestown is wonderful and compassionate people and we will continue to make them our primary vet!!

I liked the vets the first couple of times I took my puppy there. But when she got her rabies shot…read moreshe also go her last distemper shot at the same time. Poor baby was in pain for hours. I told the vet I never wanted to give her more than one shot at a time again. She was adamant that she would do it again. Also, they refused to let me purchase her flea meds more than one month at a time to save money. And the girl at the front desk gave me quite a bit of attitude about it. I changed vets after this conversation and had no problem getting her medication.

Love this veterinary facility! Every time we've needed to visit, they usually could get us in…read morewithin a day or two for normal treatment/preventive care, and within 5-7 days for non-life threatening surgery. Dr. Slater is the only doctor we have used for our pet's care. She is very knowledgeable and accommodating, plus she seems to stay educated and up-to-date with the advancements taking place in her field. She also spent lots of time with us in the examine room explaining (in detail) several surgeries our pet would be undergoing and answered all our questions that followed. We didn't feel rushed at all, and she made sure we got an email later with estimates. The vet techs we've met are also very sweet. After each visit, we get a follow up call and/or email when appropriate. We were even called directly by Dr. Slater with an update after our pet's surgery. Each person we've encountered here has reassured us our pet is in good hands, and they treat her like their own pet! Haven't had any negative experiences with this facility, doctor or staff. Definitely going to keep returning to this vet with our current (and future) pets. Keep up the quality service, Northwood!

Writing this review is incredibly difficult because Northwood Animal Hospital is where we took…read moreWillow for what was supposed to be a relatively routine procedure to remove a small tumor. Instead, we came home without our dog. Before the procedure, my husband specifically expressed that he did not want to leave until Willow was under anesthesia. We were told that she was asleep, so we left believing she was safely under and being cared for. Less than 15 minutes later, my husband received the call that Willow was gone. During the procedure, we were informed that Willow experienced serious breathing difficulties and that her condition rapidly deteriorated. What has made this experience even more upsetting is everything we learned afterward. Based on conversations and information provided to us, I was left with serious and deeply troubling questions about how Willow's emergency was handled, including the airway difficulties, the timing of anesthesia, and the response when her condition became critical. The more information we received, the harder it became to understand how a dog who went in for a small tumor removal never came home. As Willow's family, we trusted this hospital with her life. That trust was shattered. One interaction that particularly stayed with us was being asked multiple times whether we planned to sue. In the middle of grieving and trying to understand what had happened to Willow, that question felt deeply upsetting and inappropriate to us. Rather than helping answer the questions we had about our dog's death, we were left feeling even more uncomfortable and unsettled by the conversation. I am sharing my personal experience and the information that was communicated to me. I cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but I can say that I have serious concerns about the care Willow received and the way the emergency was handled. What was equally heartbreaking was the lack of compassion we felt surrounding the loss of our dog. Losing a pet unexpectedly during a procedure is traumatic enough. Feeling like you are left with unanswered questions afterward makes it even worse. I would never trust Northwood Animal Hospital with one of my animals again. Every pet owner has to make their own decision, but I strongly encourage anyone considering this hospital to ask detailed questions about surgical procedures, anesthesia, emergency protocols, and exactly how complications are handled. Willow was not just a patient or a procedure on a schedule. She was our family. My husband specifically asked not to leave until she was safely asleep. We were told she was. Less than 15 minutes later, we were told she was gone. We dropped off a dog we loved and trusted them to care for her. We came home without her. That is something we will never forget.

This makes the 3rd vet we have been to for treatment of the same issue. This is the very first time where they attempted to find the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I felt listened to and respected as a pet owner, like my concerns were actually taken into consideration, and we were offered not only solutions; but explanations as to why the problem may be occurring in the first place. We never felt like we were being persuaded to purchase anything unnecessary or upsold on anything. Everyone we interacted with here, from the initial phone call to the office visit, was beyond friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our dog was the most comfortable she has been in any hospital setting! She has been through some trauma, so it's really a big statement to say that she was more calm than usual. I'm very excited to have discovered this place and I can't recommend them enough! After needing to go here twice within a month I can say I have gained alot of confidence and know our little fur baby is in good hands Location: immediately at the corner of Polo and reynolda. Easy to spot Atmosphere: professional and appears clean on the outside with plenty of parking(still in covid procedure of waiting in car) The important details: The first visit was just a check in for the doctor to give us permission to fill her previous prescriptions that will now need to be done in NC. She was in and out in 30 minutes and it was very budget friendly to do so Today was the day I gained confidence in this team...I put in an appointment request over the holiday weekend and they called me first thing this morning to get her in. Upon arrival I had to wait a little bit(they were very busy) but, the vet tech (Jessica) spoke to me on the phone about the issues we were having and immediately came out and got her. My dog's reaction tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about someone and my dog seemed happy to see Jessica and was immediately comfortable with her (I have a chihuahua that is slightly anxious) so that was a big compliment to Jessica. Within 15 minutes Dr. Burtnett gave me an update and opion. We agreed to do some xrays to cover all grounds before jumping to conclusions. She took about 10 more minutes before coming out to the car to personally speak to me to help me understand completely what was going on. I would like to add she immediately put me at ease because she explained things in a way I could understand rather than just calling me on the phone and rushing through medical terms. My chihuahua loved her as well and was very calm with her...Luckily, this issue likely can be handled with some medication. To try and find a vet with compassion and great knowledge has been tricky in the past. I am so very grateful we found this wonderful team at Reynolda vet
