I was given a fair quote to have my transmission rebuilt, and after a week, I got my car back. Unfortunately, the vehicle has a strange swooshing sound, and after two days, I brought it back. I'm hoping it will get fixed. For the cost of car rentals and the price of the rebuild, I'm starting to think that the new transmission was the most cost-effective option. I continue to be impressed by Richard and his team at Quality Auto Painting & Body. Third time is…read morethe charm to FINALLY write the review they've been deserving for years now. August 2015: While traveling cross country, my car was hit while parked on the streets of the big apple and wasn't drivable. EEK! I was told about Quality Auto by my insurance company and had my car towed there. While I sorted out another way back home to CA, Richard took care of my car expertly. When I reached out for updates, he and Joanne were there for me and kept my mind at ease. The damage was immense, nearly totaled(!!!) but my stress level stayed low. Quality took care of communicating with my insurance company and before I knew it I was flying back to NYC to drive my baby away, like new. February 2016: During a VERY COLD (-1 degrees) Valentine's Day visit in NYC, I drove downtown and parked to have breakfast with a friend. An hour later when leaving the parking spot, the power steering went out. Completely manual, completely unsafe to drive. I had the car towed to NJ to a friend of a friend's shop who quoted a really high price to fix and I didn't feel confident the work would be done well. After a second location in Jersey who said flat out they couldn't fix it, I came to my senses; QUALITY AUTO, all the way. Why go anywhere else??? In the hands of Richard and his team, he assessed the issue and recommended working with Ford directly. Quality worked with Ford directly, got it towed up to a Ford location they trust and my car was back in working order in no time. And for HALF the quote I was originally given out in Jersey. February 2018: Here I am, now a New York resident, again with my CA car in tow (not literally towed this time). After 10 amazing years together, and a move across the country, it was time to trade my baby in for a new ride. So who do I go to to make sure she looks her best? Quality Auto Painting & Body, duh. I worked with Richard directly to look around the car and decide how much to invest in fixing her up for a trade in, without spending more than I'd get for her! This shop is NOT interested in making a buck if the work isn't necessary. Richard is more interested in telling it like it is, giving realistic options to his customers, and often talks himself OUT of work rather than scamming people to spend more than they need to. I don't know about you, but I am SO THANKFUL to have found a shop that's honest, fair & communicative. Thanks Richard, Joanne and the whole team for being so stellar! The caliber of your work is right there in the name of the shop.

I pull up to this shop after getting a recommendation that there was a good Volvo mechanic nearby. I talked to Lance and another mechanic who told me where the Volvo guy was. But then Lance says his mechanic will take a look, that he's the "Swede from Jamaica" and can fix a Volvo. After testing a couple things -- including an electrical test which my joke of a mechanic in Brooklyn would never do -- he tells me to take it for a test drive. The sputtering is gone and I end up driving it all the way to Boston that night. This mechanic, I wish I knew his name, is sitting down drinking a beer when I get back from the test drive.
