I just had a tooth extraction by oral surgeon Dr. Adam Arnodt and I have nothing but high praise for this skilled surgeon. He came in introduced himself explained the procedure very polite, very professional. I have a phobia so I begin explaining how much I fear dentists, that my roots are deep, that he will need to give me a pill prior to the needles because my pain threshold is non-existent. And, would he be open to using gas? He replies calmly "no, local anesthesia will work fine." I was given medication in various places around the tooth he stepped out and returned to enable the medication to take effect. He came back and when I thought he was determining the best angle to approach the extraction, he immediately removed the tooth! He was in my mouth with an instrument, and I was waiting for the pain to begin, the pulling, the crunching. I mean it was a wisdom tooth after all! He expertly removed my tooth in seconds. I didn't have time to get scared. I was lulled into a sense of security that completely took away my fear! Or, I was in the hands of a skilled surgeon. You don't often get your teeth extracted but if you must, you want to see Dr. Adam Arnodt at Westchester Smile Design in Yonkers 914-476-3838. I don't think they know what they're doing. I called to make an appointment. I haven't been seen in over a year. I know I need a filling, right. So they tell me I need a 1) referral from my PCP, 2) copies of my 1.5+ year old X-rays from my previous dentist over 3 hours away from me oh and 3) My insurance card ..... what ... the... f*ck. You're kidding me right? Lol I laughed said O.K. called another place and got an appointment in two days. Talk about FOREBODING for my least favorite health maintenance upkeep..... I had a TERRIBLE experiences at this office! I should have seen the red flags from the start! I called (3 times, first two times placed on hold for 20mins each total of 40mins...) just to make an appointment to get a cleaning and to possibly see the oral surgeon; on the 3rd attempt she aked me to hold and I said "NO"! Guess she didnt like that very much because, she was EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and had TERRIBLE telephone skills. As I arrived to my (10:00am appointment) at 9:45 am, I signed in, sat down and was never even asked if I'd ever been there before. I had to make the iniative and ask if there was any paper work I needed to fill out, and if in fact they needed a copy of my insurance car and/or photo ID. I waited OVER an hour to see the hygenist, 20 minutes for X-Rays...then waited, and waited, and waited.... (for a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes in the office); before I politely asked the front desk ( with Dr. Calian HERSELF present) that I've been waiting for over 2 HOURS and when will I be seeing her?! The doctor totally ignored me and never even acknowledged my presence!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I walked right out! I didnt go on a RAMPAGE because there was a child present. For 50 years I've been terrified of going to the dentist. That all changed with Westchester Smile Design. They are so gentle and make procedures virtually painless. Even placement of implants are painless once they numb you. And they numb you in stages which is a smart idea. Small sticks to numb u so u don't feel the other injections. Afterwards, you don't feel a thing, no matter what they're doing. I wear my Bose headphones, lay back, open my mouth and let them do their thing. In just one visit, I walked out with a gorgeous smile! They're not cheap but it's well worth every penny. My confidence went through the roof for the first time in decades. The girls at the registration desk are very polite and helpful, the dental hygienist Richard is awesome! He's very friendly, took his time with the cleaning and made me feel at ease. The dentist Dr. Markovitch was amazing! I hated dentists and due to past procedures I've stayed very doubtful and refused to go to a dentist. Dr. Markovitch understood that and made me comfortable. I am happy to write this review for Smile By Design Dental at 984 North Broadway Yonkers, NY I recently completed my dental work with Dr. Shay Markowitz and Staff. I have finally received my Implants and am very delighted. The service that was provided was painless. I have never been that comfortable at a dental office. I found the Staff to be quite efficient and helpful. I highly recommend Dr Shay and Staff. Dr. Shay is warm and friendly. He's a great dentist and really knows his stuff. In fact, I have encountered a few other dentists during the time that I have attended this office and It seems that they only hire the best doctors and assistants. I can honestly say that the nurses and staff were equally great. I can't say enough about this Office. They really have earned my respect and in my opinion have done a fine job with my Implants and I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of work that was performed. Dr. Shay is phenomenal. He had handled every appointment with professionalism, charisma and ease. I used to be terrified of the dentist since I'd always get hurt or cut in my previous experiences. He is extremely honest. I recently obtained dental insurance and prior to this he was honest and wasn't out to get my money (which I was paying out of pocket). I originally went in for porcelain veneers and was told I didn't need them. I really appreciated his honesty. The staff stays a little late to accommodate my late work schedule and he has yet to hurt me or scare me. He genuinely cares about his patients and their dental health. I scheduled weeks in advance. Took a day off from work. I arrived at 11:30 for my appointment and wasted a half hour there just to be told that since they could not verify my insurance I had to come back at 2pm. They were unapologetic and seemed to think that I should gladly comply with their rescheduling of my appointment. If indeed their policy is to not see patients until they verify insurance then they should get the information in advance and verify it before the patient arrives. With all the emails and reminders they sent me I would have been more than happy to provide them the information in advance in order to avoid this. Their system only benefits them and their patients are merely an afterthought. If you think that your time and business should be appreciated and valued then I would find a different dental office. read more

STAY AWAY! The office manager (Tina) & some of the clerical pool are terrible. The office manager was very rude when I inquired about money that was owed back to me. Very unprofessional attitude which rubbed off on the others working there. Dr. Shay should re-examine the people up front, their attitudes will cost him not to have returning patients. This is the worst experience I have ever had dealing with a dentist office. I basically had to go back to the referral people to get this matter resolved. The dentist had a nice friendly manner. WORST DENTIST EXPERIENCE EVERRRRR!!!!! I bought a groupon for teeth whitening and I would rather have chewed on glass to cut my gums up, then mouth washed with bleach, then pull out every tooth in my head with a pair of pliers..... that would have been only slightly less painful then going to that hell hole and having my teeth whitened!!! My teeth were all spotty for days and the worst part was they burned the inside of my lip and they acted like it was normal. The burn on my lip was the size of a dime which stayed there for 2 weeks! I couldnt eat hot food or drink hot liquids! The girl who did the proceedure is definately NOT a dentist nor should do any dental work until she gets a green card! The dentist came in, looked at my teeth for 3 seconds, said OK, then left. WTF!! DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LOVE PAIN!!!! read more

I had a fear of going to the dentist after a painful experience and thought that Westchester Smile Design would be different. They made me comfortable getting work done but that's it!! The billing is very deceptive. The staff has very unprofessional telephone skills and will keep you on hold for 20 min. straight without returning to the phone or suggesting to call you back. Unbelievable!! Just because the person that does the billing has worked in the dental area for a number of years, she will try to also read your x-rays and tell you want is wrong with your teeth and then sit down and bill you. Unbelievable!!! Finishing my invisalign treatment has been a nightmare. The Ortho will "never" suggest refinements and will send you out the door looking like bugs bunny and tell you, "you are all done and your teeth looks great, honey." If you have problems after getting refinements, good luck getting service and your calls returned. At this point, your bill is paid so you are just an annoyance to them. I wish I could give this place absolutely no stars. First of all, the receptionists are extremely rude and completely unwilling to help. I was calling about fees that I had for an appointment the next day and they could not answer these questions for me despite the fact that I would need to provide payment for my procedure the very next day. Furthermore, they only billed my insurance for a very small portion of the fee and expected me to pay the rest out of pocket despite the fact that my insurance was willing to pay 75% of the fee. The receptionist told me that I had the wrong information despite the fact that I confirmed with the insurance company several times. She was unable to tell me what she billed the insurance for, only that I had the "wrong" information. This place and its employees are awful. Avoid. read more

Never come here !! Worst place ever ! I made an appt for a cleaning and a filling that fell out . They fit me in right away- when I can for my spot . They took 2 X-rays - why bc they were never planning on doing the cleaning . They claim I never said that on the phone . The woman who made the appt came running at me with her finger waving saying I have an attitude and that I never said I needed a cleaning . She had to be pulled out and escorted out of the room . I was threatened and assaulted by Adam Arnoldt an Oral Surgeon working in this office. He asked me to open my mouth and because he had numbed me up,my lip hung down so I had no idea that he wasn't able to get to the tooth. He then said,you can let me do this or I can call the hospital and have you put to sleep. I said sorry because I had already been numbed up and I didn't want to make the situation worse. While he was taking out my tooth he started to press down on my eye very hard. I raised my hands signaling for him to stop and then I politely let him know that he was pressing down on my eye severely. He then said to me that this is the way he has to do it and he isn't going to stop. He then proceeded to press down on my eye while he worked on my tooth. So almost the entire time he was taking out my tooth he was pressing into my eye. He also never gave me a prescription for pain killers. When he was done I was afraid to ask him anything and simply left. I went to the police and they have instructed me on two things that I should do. I am currently in the process of doing those two things. read more

The front desk staff is only partially helpful. Dental hygienist is rough and I didn't find the cleaning to be thorough. Dentist is friendly. I HATE THIS DENTIST OFFICE! Every time you call to schedule an appointment be prepared to wait for 5-20 min. Then they forget about you, so you have to hang up and call back, even before you can even get a word in. They say "please hold" it's so frustrating. The dental hygienist (Korean gentlemen) is ALWAYS rude! My son has been going here for the past two years, and I think it's time to find someone else. Dr. Markovitch is very pleasant. He just needs to hire new ladies for the front desk. Also, think about having one late night or maybe being open one or two Saturday's a month. They gave me an appointment for my mother and I at the same time yet while i was there they informed me that only 1 of us would be seen and that i have to reschedule because get this, my mom took "too long" filling out the new patient paper work. Had a broken tooth so I made an appointment , great equipment but the dentist did Not give me Any instructions following the procedure his assistant gave me a paper and said read it for your instructions .No pain killers No antibiotics and No recommendations as to what pain killer to take staff needs to work on being more friendly with patients including the dentist. My entire experience with this establishment was unpleasant. The reception staff is unprofessional and ghetto, for lack of a better word to describe them. Their phone calls should also be monitored. If you choose to give them a try be prepared to wait, whether it be on hold on the phone simply trying to make an appointment or in their crowded waiting room befor your appointment. From the time I walked in until the time I walked everyone in the office was professional, polite, and courteous. The office was pleasant Dr. Shay runs a tight ship. I receive a call/email from the office to remind me of my appointments. I met Dr. Shay right from the start I wished I met him years ago. He was honest, not pushy what so ever, he gave me his advice on what he thought should be done . He gave me an outstanding price for the work and I was skeptical at first but if you meet Dr. Shay he knows what he's doing. I had 2 implants (thank you Dr. Arnold), caps on my front teeth, tooth pulled, cavities. I never ever had pain, no pain meds, I am writing this a half hour after an implant and no pain! I loved my teeth and smile, I look so much younger , Dr. Shay gave it back to me. He evaluated me, gave me choices and a payment plan. Always greets his patients with a big smile. I had previously posted that my temporary dentures were ugly and ill fitting and yes they were. But the dentist made really nice looking dentures for me and genuinely expressed that he wants to make us happy and I really appreciated that he was so caring and willing to make sure I was happy. I recently went to Westchester Smile Design and my experience does not match these negative reviews. I brought my son there in April, 2014 who is developmentally delayed. Dr. Shay and his staff were great with him and he was very apprehensive because of an extraction debacle performed elsewhere about 15 years ago. While I was there with him I asked about cosmetic dentistry for myself. They showed me several options and said I was a good candidate for veneers. I was going to a family wedding in about a month and he (Dr. Shay) said he could get them done. You should have seen me smiling all around the place. I would have been very self conscious if I still had my old teeth. My family also said they looked great. There were some bumps in the road but Dr. Shay addressed them quickly and even came in on a Saturday morning to do a quick fix because I had another family function that afternoon. Hopefully more positive reviews will be forthcoming for WSD since I know people are more apt to write a negative review than a positive one. Good luck to Dr. Shay in getting his newly managed practice on the good side of the reviews. He certainly has my endorsement. read more

please do yourself a favor and don't go to that place, i walked in for fallen crown, and in less than 10 minutes the doctor and he's assistants told i had broken the root of the tooth, and i need it over 5000.00 dollars to fix it, went for a second opinion at another place, they took another x ray and guess what? I have no broken tooth, I got a new crown for 1400.00 dollars. However Westchester smile design still charged me, for taken an impression of the tooth 350.00 dollars which is a ripoff. This is the worst dentist office in westchester. When you call to make an appointment the receptionist place you on hold for ten minutes before returing to the phone. I have been there in the waiting room for over three hours and notice that when calls come in, she place the calls on hold so she could talk to the people that work there. She needs training. The waiting room is unbelievable as I had apontment at 1:00 p.m. and never saw the dentist until 4:30p.m. Think twice before you go to Westchester Smile Design. read more
