Very nice sandy beach which is not as busy as Brighton and the other popular beaches (at least at the time I went which was a warm Saturday afternoon). There is plenty of space to park and the only downfall is the parking fee of £8 (hence the less star) which may be good if one is staying the while day but not for 3 hours or less. I don't see the point though having a man collect your money to slip into the machine which opens the doors, one can do that themselves! After some time on the sand, we went for some ice cream (these guys at the time served a descent amount!) and walked down along the sea for a sunset watch. It is great for family and children or a group of friends. It was fairly easy getting to West Wittering from The London are for whoever will be travelling that far. read more

Lovely beach! Many people rave about West Beach, Littlehampton.but that can never be compared to Witterings!! This has fantastic views and such a variety of excellent photographic opportunities. Right on the edge of Chi harbour, you have the chance to nip up to Itchenor and do the harbour cruise, or other activities. Every couple of weeks you can get a birdwatching boat trip for £8.50pnot bad by todays standards of entertainment. Go ontake the kids.it's half term!! read more

The best beach I have ever been to in Britain! a bit windy, loads of parking, lots of waves, great for bodyboarding, perfect sandcastle sand, the kids loved it! I did queue for a long while to get in once. Worth the wait - hours of fun, great for tanning/burning, very nice for walks in sanddunes also. The cups of tea are tiny though, and over priced, but the ice lollies are good and there are showers on site! read more

It was rumoured to be the best beach in the UK, and now I've been there I can say that's it's the best one I've been to. It's beautiful here. The most peaceful place ever (but then I was further up the main part than more tourists, and it was erm... November). This is a sandcastle beach. A perfect perfect sandcastle beach. You can see the Isle of Wight and Plymouth Harbour, so you've got a great view. Happy dogs running and playing with sticks. Really awesome shells too. It's a happy beach. This is a fabulous beach with gorgeous yellow sand. It seems to be endless and is a great place to head out to. In the summer it is perfect for your classic family day out at the beach. In the winter it is pretty deserted and wonderful for a sunday afternoon stroll along the beach. Not really any facitities although there is a small shop and a toilet next to the car park. The carpark rarely gets full and the charges are reasonable. read more

This beach is definitely one of the best in the south of England. The crystal clear sand is wonderful and quite a luxury in the UK, plus there is loads to do there! They have a lovely cafe, an ice cream stall (if i remember correctly?) and open showers to rinse off all that sand and salt. There is also a little sand island about a mile across the sea which would be fun to get to on an inflatable boat or something along those lines, but no matter how close it looks, don't attempt to swim across unless you are a fit and very strong swimmer! (as my boyfriend learned the hard way!) There are also great things for kids there including trampolines. I also saw dogs running around, so this is also a dog friendly beach. There are camping sites and B&Bs near by, so this would be the perfect location for a fun adult or family day out or even a great beach break! read more

Brilliant beach - sandy, great for kids, parking is good and very reasonable price wise I think (but you do have to arrive early or you risk queueing for quite a while) Life guards patrols, cleaners on the beach, ice cream and coffee. I just wish BBQs weren't allowed, but not such a big issue as there's loads of space. read more

Don't bother!! Stuck in traffic for 5 hours to get to the beach, littered and overcrowded, and then again awful traffic to get home, spent over an hour in the car park trying to leave. If looking for a fun day out with you young children, don't waste being stuck in traffic trying to get here...we will never visit again, day ruined!!! read more

This isn't a review of the actual beach because we never saw it. We set out to go to West Wittering beach at about 10:00 on a Saturday morning. Travelling east from Portsmouth the A27 was fairly clear until we got to the first roundabout, then the traffic was gridlocked for the next 2 miles of dual carriageway. We then turned off onto the A286 to WW and that too was solid nose to tail traffic the whole 7 miles down to WW. When we actually arrived, this whole miserable 9 mile traffic jam was funnelled into a tiny village and then into the biggest car park I've ever seen. It costs £7.50 just to get through the gate, and we drove from one end to the other trying to find a space, In the end I gave up and I turned the car round and left. There is one small retail building serving all these tens of thousands of people. When we passed it there was a queue of about 30 to 40 people standing at the serving hatch so I would recommend taking all your own food and drink. All 7 miles back up to to A27 the other side of the road was still gridlocked with people trying to get into WW. Heaven knows where they would park when they got there. I'm sure the beach is lovely but the stress off getting there is more than I would want to go through again. It's probably great out of season but on the few sunny weekends we get, the whole world heads for WW and the infrastructure can't cope. If you want a nice relaxing day out, forget it. We went to Bognor instead and it was great read more

THE best beach ever

Agree best beach in the UK. Love the sandy beach and long stretches of sand. I did spend a lot of time at Tucano Beach the boutique clothing shop on the way down to the beach. Visited West Wittering beach for the first time yesterday and had a brilliant day out. We arrived early, about 9.30 so had no problem with parking. We parked right at the far end of the car park as we had our dog, Darcy with us so it was only a short walk to the part where dogs are allowed. We found a lovely sand dune to settle in and opened our parasol and made ourselves comfortable. The tide was out so it was a fair walk to the sea but there were little pools all over the beach so we could still have a little paddle. Unfortunately a group of students turned up with a guide from the National trust and some other tutor, to learn about sand dunes and stopped right in front of us. After abour 40 minutes we`d had enough and, begrudgingly moved to another sand dune, why they couldn`t have done that, I don`t know. However we settled down once again and enjoyed the rest of the day. My two teenage kids thoroughly enjoyed the day as did Darcy, our pug, though she wasn`t too keen on paddling! The weather was perfect for a `beach` day out and never got too crowded, bear in mind though we were not on the main beach. We stayed until aroung 3.45pm and the sea had still not reached its high tide mark! The queues to get in were very long when we drove out and the ice cream queues even longer at the cafe!! Overall I found West Wittering a beautiful beach and I don`t feel £7.50 is a lot to spend on parking when you can stay all day. We bought our own food and drinks so didn`t have to use the cafe but, by judging the queues I think we did the right thing. I love this beach and only wish it was nearer my home so I could visit it more often but `we will be back`!! read more
