The Gables on Pelham has all of these resources on site and seemed to be the perfect solution. Right from the start, the people we were dealing with were friendly and caring. My 95 year old father has been at The Gables for about a year and a half and has really flourished. He has made some great friends and has been getting physical therapy regularly. He has been able to walk on his own without any assistance, not even with a walker, and is receiving therapy twice a week. It has made a significant difference in his mobility. A few weeks ago, my father suffered a fall in his room. As soon as they realized something was wrong, the staff was quick to respond. Cynethia Allison, the Health and Wellness Director, contacted me immediately. She explained what happened and had EMS take him to the emergency room. He was hospitalized for a couple of days. During his entire stay at the hospital, Cynethia reached out to me several times to check on his status. She is a professional, caring person who exhibits an unbelievable amount of compassion and empathy. The Gables welcomed him back into skilled nursing to begin his rehabilitation and was there just a few days. Unlike some rehab facilities, there was no question about admitting him into skilled nursing from the hospital since he was a resident at The Gables. The staff there made the entire process a smooth transition. Cynethia again stayed in constant touch with me on his progress. He was moved back to his own apartment where she set up on-site physical therapy. She arranged for his meals to be delivered to his apartment daily until he had the confidence to walk on his own back to the dining room. The entire staff at The Gables on Pelham really showed their concern by not only speaking with me while on my regular visits to see my father, but stopping in to see him and his progress, too. Cynethia's team members are super nice to him and always go above and beyond in his care. Her leadership is evident in their training. After this incident I am confident that our choice, The Gable on Pelham, was the best choice for my father. Their associates are, in my opinion, among the best, from nursing, administration, and marketing, to maintenance. Each associate displays an enormous amount of pride and care. I am forever indebted to them and at total peace knowing that every moment of every day my father is safe and in excellent hands.

I changed her clothes, cleaned her up and when I came back in 2 days she was wearing the same clothes. She had the same socks on for 5 days. They said it wasn't true but I had placed a black dot to identify them. I've complained to the staff , and finally the executive director and she only gets good care when I'm here and watching. When I pressed as to why the care staff wasn't being held accountable , he was beside himself because his regional director will not let him hold his team accountable because they may quit. Even if they are neglecting or committing elder abuse however you wish to view it. When I mentioned that I guess I will file a complaint with SCDHEC.gov the response is it will take them 30 days to investigate and she will be gone by then. I show up at 1pm and she is still in PJ's or the same clothes from the previous day each time. They will only bath her if we ask for it and insist on it. Not only does this facility not invest in quality staff , the place is in complete disrepair. Please do not go through the stress we've been through, chose another place on the east side of town. I experienced wonderful nurses(Milani is outstanding as well is Rachel) and CNAs(Aisha and Tasha). I personally watched the level of the above-and-beyond attitude by all staff members, Dietary services needs some improvement. Housekeeping and maintenance are excellent and they take pride in their jobs. The physical therapy department is amazing and professional,. I've personally been a patient in to newer facilities but looks aren't what you need especially when there is a post-hospital need with a goal to be fully functional upon returning home.

Worst place ever!!…read more The facility is dirty and in need of repairs. The overall smell is terrible. Residents are 3-4 to a room. Roommates are inconsiderate, often blaring the tv non-stop. Residents are often left in bed all day, in threadbare hospital gowns, even though they have their own clothing. The phone is rarely answered by the receptionist. If you're transferred to the nurses' station they don't answer, and you get a recorded message stating the mailbox is full. If you leave a voicemail for the activities director and you're lucky enough to get a return call, it's 2-3 days after the activity you're inquiring about. The residents clothes that aren't lost or stolen are ruined by those in charge of doing laundry. The parking spots closest to the facility are limited and always taken up by the employees.

There are nurses that are good and have a passion for healthcare but there are some that are in the wrong profession. Same goes for the CNAs. Only a handful do I trust working with my mom. This is definitely an industry that needs to be revamped. G-d help the people that have to stay here for a while. The grounds are nice as are the buildings and rooms. Please do not be fooled. If your loved one is here only for a short stay ... they will survive. Do not expect much. Please be prepared to pay for a sitter. You will have to have one.

The therapists were very good and the facilities top notch. I think RCP is best physical rehab facility in the entire area by far.
