Doctor Cooper is nice, but staff isn't great. Scheduled a medical exam and gave them my medical insurance info. Show up for my appointment, and they seem annoyed and it takes forever to get me back there. Finally someone scolds me for "not telling them I needed a medical exam instead of a regular one." I told them I specifically told them I needed a medical exam, that's why they already have my medical insurance on file. My experience with the office had been good. However, after the last visit, things went wrong. It took way too long to get my glasses. Staff were rude several times times. This is the worst experience I've ever experience! My first visit I spent 2 hours there to be told my appointment was scheduled incorrectly and they would have to work me in. I left of course I have a job and can't spend all day to be seen! Long story short I have since call numerous times and left voicemails to get my pending authorization releases that I could be seen at another clinic, spoke with someone several times and said it wouls be taken care of and I have had to reschedule my appointment and called again yesterday and was assured it would be taken care of again, but it hasn't! My youngest daughter lost her glasses and the replacement pair was ready for me to pick up within 4 days! Would not recommend under any circumstances. Have had contacts for over 25 years and have no health issues with my eyes. All I needed was an annual exam for renewal and possible adjustment of my prescription. Simple right? Been around for over 50 years and this is the most tedious, rigid, deceitful and insulting experiences I have ever had dealing with a health care provider. I moved to another part of town and decided to get find an optometrist closer to home. I thought it would be routine but as it turned out I was wrong. The initial exam and consult went ok. They did not have the contacts I needed in stock so they had to be ordered which is nothing unusual. Normally, the experience has been, after the contacts come in, I go in and they are checked for comfort, fit and for corrected vision. If all is verified good that is the end of it. I get my new prescription and go on with my life with instructions to contact them if I encounter any problems. That is NOT how West Tennessee Eye operates. Their process is tedious and drawn out. The entire process with other optometrists has taken me no longer than 3 weeks and on maybe one or two occasions 4 weeks. By contrast, these guys, had I followed through with the entire process, would have taken 3 entire months. They do not seem to value a person's time and they insist on scheduling unnecessary steps and exams. After 3 weeks of not hearing from them about the trial contacts coming in, I called to inquire about them. They said it could take as long as 30 days and to check back in another week. Mysteriously the next day they left a voice mail saying they were in and I needed to set up an appointment. The earliest they had was 3 weeks away at another location 35 minutes further away from my home which defeated the purpose of seeking a new optometrist closer to home. Keep in mind I have two full business days off each week where I'm able to come in at any time during those two business days. Feeling I had no choice, I agreed to take the time slot 3 weeks and 35 minutes further away. When I went in 3 weeks later the trials were fitted, examined and everything was verified good. The next thing I knew the doctor was talking to me about some medical condition I'd never heard calling it mini strokes inside the eye. He went on about this and I found it somewhat interesting of course but my impression was he was just making small talk. He mentioned there was an exam for this. Then the doctor Did Not Do what doctors in the medical field normally do. He never explicitly recommended that I have this exam performed. He never explicitly asked whether I wanted to have it done or for consent to schedule to have it done. I eventually found out that he did order to have the exam done at a third visit. I found this to be unprofessional, presumptuous, condescending and arrogant on his part. If this was a concern why wouldn't it have been addressed at my exam weeks earlier? What third visit you may ask? The one that If I did not comply my prescription would be held hostage. Only if I complied would I be given my prescription. Wow! When I called and asked if the medical exam was required, the lady said no, we are just trying to help you out. I thought, really? How about helping me out by giving me my prescription and letting me get on with my life? The doctor said he was bound by Tennessee State law to require the third visit anyway to re-check my contacts. If true it means every other place in Tennessee, I've been going to over the past 25 years and the place I'm going to now is violating that law. I doubt that's true. The optometrist I saw after this said what West TN Eye is doing is not what they would consider to be normal but there may be some provision that allows them to require a third visit if they deem it is necessary. They may be taking advantage of that. By the way, the third appointment? It was going to take 2 months to get me in. I could not afford to wait that long as I had plans to be out of town for an extended period. It didn't even occur to scheduler that this would be longer than the 30-day wear time of my trial pair of contacts. How does that work? How can they be so booked up? Are they overbooking patients to try to make up for COVID down time and losses or for some other reason thus leaving very little flexibility in their schedule? Seems so. That would be irresponsible and not serving the public IMO but serving themselves if an element of that is going on. Making myself available for 2 full business days each week should be adequate to work something out for a 15 min appointment to check for any problems with my contacts without it taking 2 months to get me back in. Even 3 weeks for that matter. Beyond that, the third visit is highly irregular and not necessary based on past experiences and what other optometry providers are requiring in my area of Tennessee. Very disappointed in the way I was treated here ! I have always felt very rushed in the office. No time is given to fill out paperwork and you end up having to stay after your appointment to finish it. At the end of my visit I paid my co-pay and my part for my glasses around $190. I then go to pick up my glasses 2 weeks later and apparently I owe $2 and since I did not have my debit card on me they would not give me my go glasses with that balance so now I'm left with no glasses until I can get off work again to get them.. So bad I hate to even choose one star. 3 months later no contacts. They told me they fired the woman over complaints. Well that's nice but it didn't fix my vision needs. My Eye Doctor retired and I needed to find a new one, All I needed was my contact prescription renewed, What do I get? A very rude and unfriendly doctor that wants to change my brand and length of wear altogether when I was very happy with what I was wearing SURPRISE charge me for a "Fitting" when all I did was put my own contacts in. Tell me I'm buying a years worth of contacts (cost was definitely in the year range) yet when they show up it's only 6 months worth. Sorry, but the constant miscommunication and the self entitlement of the eye doctor (that seemed fresh out of school) I cannot recommend this place. I don't want to give this place ANY stars!!! I waited 2 weeks for an appointment. I told the scheduler that I wanted an exam for glasses and contacts. The scheduler tells me that I also have to do the diabetic medical exam. Fine. I get to the office and the assistant tells me "you will have to pay out of pocket for glasses and contacts because the insurance will not pay for the exam AND the medical eye exam." I ended up leaving. There's so much miscommunication in that office. I would have rescheduled the appointment, but the staff tried to make it seem like this was all my fault and they were not very friendly about it.
