I got an Olivella face and body bar of 100% virgin olive oil with anti-aging properties for $4 (buy 6, get one free) and a beautiful container of foaming bath gel ($5) looking like a Christmas tree ornament (and the shape of the container was of a tree), including a hook on the top, in orange color (and smelling of orange) -- both for our Thanksgiving hostess. I thought it was great that they have the more economical 6-packs of things. I didn't find the selection exceptional and actually thought the inventory was quite small. It seemed like a lot of the square footage was for back stock and soil/mulch supplies, not nearly as many plants as I had hoped. The small building has houseplants and some decorative items. Prices seemed slightly lower than other nurseries.

Continuing the tradition of a family owned local small business, they are just as good and even better. They not only have the usual bedding plants but varieties not often found. I was thrilled, for instance, to find Greek columnar basil plants which had been recommended to me by a gardening friend but which I had never seen locally. They fill a great niche. Their prices are better than the higher end garden shops but it is a much better experience than the big box stores. The owners are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They have another shop focused on indoor growing and can make recommendations in that area, too. It was sad to see the old Bayer's close after so many decades of service to the community but The Garden Shop has stepped it and taken it to a whole new level. I am thrilled!
