There was also many local eateries and shopping within less than 10 minutes drive. The rooms were spacious and very clean! The staff were beyond friendly and helpful! You could see they truly cared, which is rare these days. I arrived 2 mins after breakfast and the woman re-opened the breakfast center just for me. We were so appreciative of the great hospitality. The fitness center was a little cramped and there was only one elevator but that is a super small con amidst all of the pros. Definitely a return visit if we're in the area. Stellar stay!

The weather is supposed to change tomorrow but for now it's 85 degrees at 10pm and that's just not working for me. I arrived at 10:30 and I was on my way at 6:30. I have no complaints and the free breakfast they had was good for proteins and low carb. I was able to get back on my keto diet after blowing it completely in Manhattan over the weekend. I would definitely choose this hotel again and maybe next visit, I'll have more time here. [Review 18390 overall - 56 in Connecticut - 1912 of 2022.]

All our Wood furnitures are still in great shape. We upholstered our Avery armchair and Ottoman because they are still in perfect condition. We love the style. We decided to buy a new sofa even though our Cameron Sofa is still in good shape but after 20 years the color faded and we needed a new one. We decided to buy a Spencer Sofa Roll-arm 93" by 24" and we love it. The new furniture gives the ouse a new look to our great room. Our Spencer Sofa is impressive. We choose our fabric and color including customize the cushions with help of Ellen Kily - the designer and associate. Ethan Allen did a beautiful custom finish on our sofa. I love the firmness , size and number of all the sofa cushions. They are a high end furniture company and the value is absolutely there. Do not be afraid to buy the best, you will not be disappointed. Thanks again! Thank to Ellen Kilroy.

Gunk was coming up as you turned on water to use the sink. Not a good experience. They did finally fix it on the last day after several requests and email and because now water started leaking from the pipes. We had to use our clean towels to soak up the mess. Due to this issue we missed our prepaid breakfast two of our days here. Breakfast was nothing to brag about. There is coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning. AC had dirty vents so breathing was an issue and the fridge was very noisy.

We're now thinking of trying another hotel branch next time. The dog bowls/treat station are always dirty and never filled up. I don't let my dog drink from public water bowls. However, we arrived and I saw the water was 1/3 filled. The next morning, same water. Usually they're empty when we come in but pet friendly isn't a word I'd call EVEN. Especially now that they raised their prices to $100 per pet stay. My husband came up to Norwalk during a quick visit and had a tick on him from the bed. Another stay, a group of people were hanging out by the elevators (which our room was next to) and they were having a party at 1am. It was so loud. I called the front desk and they immediately came up and told the people they need to leave and they can't be doing this. It sounded like the staff knew these people and they have done this before. And don't get me started on the elevators. Being that we visit CT 2-3 times a year, we noticed the right elevator has been broken every visit. It's like they're refusing to fix the problem. EVEN is just not the same as it used to be. The nickel and diming while not taking care of the property is just sad.

I had reserved a room with king sized bed but when i arrived I was told that they only had double rooms available. This was something I've never experienced in all my years of traveling but I told her the double room was fine. This hotels overall concept of staying active while traveling was new and refreshing. But personally I would've preferred a microwave in my room rather than work out equipment. There is a microwave on the first floor but by the time you get back to your room your food is cooled off. My room (362) was comfortable but not as quiet as I would have liked. Every sound that was made in the hallway was loud and clearly heard in my room. I never heard anything from the rooms next to me but the sounds and conversations from the hallway, day or night, were annoying. The rooms were clean and housekeeping came regularly unless you used the do not disturb hang tag. The lobby is huge and there is plenty of work areas but it seemed like every customer wanted to make use of the corner I picked to work in when I was there. If I visited CT again, I would only choose this hotel if I could get the same rate. Over $100.00 a night I would definitely need a hotel with quieter rooms.

The Surfside Hotel - View of hotel from wedding reception tent

    The Surfside Hotel

    (32 reviews)

My siblings and I are planning to gather in Lordship Township, which is part of Stratford,…read moreConnecticut, to celebrate my sister's birthday in January 2025. Our family has gathered here for about 30 years, for holiday dinners at our mom's house, which is in Lordship Township, right on Long Island Sound. For all of those years, those of us who traveled from a distance would stay at Marnick's, a locally owned hotel that's right on the beach near our mom's house. Our mom passed a few years ago and I hadn't returned to Lordship Township since then. On a whim, browsing online for hotels in the area, I learned about The Surfside Hotel. I learned that Marnick's had closed and that a while later Surfside emerged, sporting a whole new vibe. Prior to committing to recommending a sibling gathering there, I spent the night last week at Surfside. I'm happy to report that the upgrade is impressive. While the rooms now cost more than they did when Marnick's owned the place, the prices are well within reason for the area. I took an Amtrak from D.C. (about 6 hours), paid about $12 for an Uber/Lyft from the train station, and arrived to meet Iona at the hotel's front desk. She took my information and offered that she'd been there for about 2 years and the present owners have been there for about six years. All the features of the hotel appeared to be solidly restored and improved upon. I had a second-story room (21) with a balcony looking out to the Sound. There was a complimentary coffee bar with self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, and snack bars. There's a beach-reading library, so I contributed my copy of Rachel Kushner's recent novel, "Creation Lake," which I finished reading on the train ride from DC. There were no downsides. There's a decent efficient fitness center that includes a Peloton and free weights. There's a map of the area suggesting pleasant walks along the seawall, Russian Beach, the Prospect Light House, and Long Beach Gatehouse. There are paths taking hikes of two miles, 3.6 miles, and five miles, and a suggestion for a longer bike ride. The main reason for this visit was to see whether the siblings would be able to stay on site for meals. There's a well-populated bar and restaurant attached to the hotel called The Little Pub (see my Yelp review.) There's also a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar half a block away. There's a deli and an adjacent pizza parlor three blocks away, where I picked up a single slice of pizza and a portion of carrot cake. The Lordship Corner Market is right next to the pizzeria, and has sandwiches, newspapers, and sundries for days at the beach. For those with cars, I can recommend the Cricket Car Hop, a mile or two inland, for great hot dogs, burgers & fries (it was a favorite of my mom's, and we went there just about every time I visited, but I wasn't in town long enough this time to visit). Things to keep in mind: Surfside is a small business, not part of any chain. Iona needed to know when I was likely to arrive, to be sure someone was available for check in. No one was at the front desk when I checked out (but I received a check-out acknowledgement shortly after 9 a.m. the day I checked out). I believe pets are welcome (I saw a service dog there as I was leaving in the morning). There are no elevators, and my room was on the second floor. The hotel is still using single-use plastics for the shower, and the tub lacked handholds. But the vibe is good . . . we get the aloha and mahalo greetings, suggesting Hawaiʻi roots. The innkeepers report that "Boy knows nothing about running a hotel, but restaurant comes with a hotel attached so it's all or nothing. Boy must convince Girl it's a good idea. Girl is not impressed. Boy breaks into song. Girl is impressed and says YES! Restaurant and hotel are redone, there is singing and dancing, and everyone is happy." True Romance! Mahalo
