She wanted to get it done simply because one was long overdue. My Brother-In-Law had IDHI do a home inspection for a new house he purchased five years ago and highly recommend them. My experience with IDHI was nothing short of awesome! Greg is very quick to respond to emails, calls or texts and has all the answers. You can tell he has been doing this for quite some time. His knowledge of structures is only enhanced as he is a retired firefighter and spent decades working in and around all kinds of structures. On the day of inspection, he arrived 15 minutes early and we went over any prior areas of concern before he began doing his inspection. My Mom's house is a simply 1400 square foot single family home. Greg spent over three hours going over every square inch to include ALL attic and crawl spaces, the roof, and under the house (which I am convinced nobody has been under since we moved in in 1981. He has all his own equipment including ladders, stools, protective shoe coverings and overalls. In addition, he takes dozens of pictures and videos which he gives you on a thumb drive at the end of the inspection. He also goes over everything in detail at the end and I had an emailed copy within two hours after his departure. He even followed up the next day with another email to ensure we were happy and understood some of the deficiencies that need to be addressed. Greg also has recommended contractors whose work he has spent years inspecting on other homes, e.g., we knew we needed a new roof and he had a solid recommendation (again, he's spent years inspecting the guys work). Long story already long; I will continue to use In Depth Home Inspection LLC as long as I need inspections done and HIGHLY recommend them to anyone else.

Bob did an inspection on a home my wife and I bought in 2014. Bob called out several items of…read moreconcern on our home and his final report was ascetically pleasing. Unfortunately though, we later discovered he missed quite a few things that have significantly impacted our pocket's and lives. We've had to pay an electrician over $400 to correct some obviously out of code wiring in the master bathroom closet. Also, an additional $350 to clean up and correct some wiring that had been fed through an attic. These were things that we had no idea about but had been instantly discovered by construction crews and a electrician. The worst part though, and to our surprise, our copper water piping was run through the foundation and not wrapped for its protection against concrete at all. This was immediately confirmed by a plumber who checked our water closet and other areas where he found several code violations and leaks. This cost us $4100 to repipe the whole house, plus two separate $12,000 water leak incidents, one of which our entire kitchen was wiped out. Also, other smaller code and safety issues have been discovered and repaired (lack of earth quake straps on hot water heater, no pan on hot water heater, poorly connected gas line under stove). We've employed and worked with other inspectors in the past and Bob is the one who's missed the most significant things.

But rather than leaving a small hole from a dry rot poker tool, he left two DOZEN 2-3" chunks of siding missing. Some were bored into brand new boards. The realtor who showed the house to the potential buyers that hired him, as well as our realtor, confirmed those missing chunks were not there prior to the inspection. Mr. Baker claims he poked the board and the rest "fell away". I will let you decide.

As a homebuyer, I feel that the seller who used this company for an inspection and report was…read moreseverely mislead. Pertinent information regarding their home was not included in their inspection report. Had we, the buyers, based our purchase on the seller's inspection report, we would have been ready and willing to buy the house with the understanding that we would have needed to put about $5,000 - $10,000 of work into the home. Based on our separate buyer's inspection, we likely would have needed to have significant repairs to the foundation, starting at $20,000 in addition the previous range. In addition to these repairs, the foundation repair would potentially cause other issues with the floor, drywall, and windows, expenses that would be nearly impossible to predict or budget for. This was downplayed on the seller's inspection report, as if age of a home has no factor upon future ramifications. There were numerous other issues such as exposed wires, window repairs and gutter repairs that were not identified at all on the seller's inspection report. It is one thing to instill a sense that home issues may not require immediate attention and can ultimately be resolved with quality repairs and sufficient funds. It is another thing to dismiss information in regard to the health, safety, and salability of what is many people's largest lifetime investment. We were fortunate enough to have a buyer's agent and inspector that provided us with a much more comprehensive report and were willing to tell us that this home would have been a significant financial burden. I worry that the sellers have not been provided with similar clarity while working hard to sell their home.

He does realize I'll buy another house in Eugene at some point, right?

Due to some scheduling overlaps with contractors at the property, Doug actually had to come back multiple times to finish the job because the work areas were blocked.
