My experience with Laurel Elementary School has raised serious concerns about the safety,…read moresupervision, and support for students, particularly those with special needs like my daughter. From the beginning of the school year, her IEP, which is crucial for addressing her Autism and speech delay, was largely ignored. This neglect not only caused my daughter to struggle in class but led to repeated incidents of harm and bullying that went unresolved. Despite informing staff of her challenges, calling for IEP meetings, and repeatedly requesting interventions, little was done. My daughter was subjected to ongoing physical harm (e.g., being bitten, hit, and cut with scissors), emotional distress from bullying (genitals were exposed, hair pulling, and had personal belongings taken and broken by peers), and behaviors typical of her diagnosis that were misunderstood or penalized. Reports to staff were met with delayed or dismissive responses, and resolutions rarely occurred. Even when physical evidence, such as photos of bruises and cuts, was provided, the incidents were minimized or dismissed as "normal kindergarten behavior." And worse was that her own teacher blamed her for causing "tension" because she didn't listen or act normal knowing she had an autism diagnosis. The school claims to offer a safe and nurturing environment, but what I observed was a lack of supervision and accountability. My daughter repeatedly came home with injuries or reports of mistreatment. For example, she described incidents where other students pulled her pants down or took her belongings, yet follow-up from staff was inadequate, with no consequences or lasting solutions. I also witnessed such events happening while staff stood by aloof and did nothing until I called them out. By October, my daughter exhibited distressing new behaviors, indicating the emotional toll the environment had taken on her. Efforts to resolve these issues with the administration were frustrating. Meetings were delayed for reasons such as Halloween events, or "slime day" and despite promises to address concerns, meaningful change did not occur. The administration's approach often felt more focused on excuses and deflection rather than ensuring student safety or implementing the IEP properly. The disconnect between the school's stated policies on safety, respect, and inclusivity and its actual practices is alarming. A consistent lack of supervision, delayed communication, and failure to implement necessary supports made it impossible to trust that my daughter would be safe at Laurel Elementary. I urge the district to take immediate steps to ensure staff accountability, proper supervision, and consistent IEP implementation. Families should not have to repeatedly fight for the basic safety and well-being of their children. My experience at Laurel Elementary is one I would not wish on any parent or child. I also complained to the district and pulled my daughter out, and they also seemed to disregard my concerns and didn't take my complaint seriously. The district is also complicit in their inaction and don't care for their students or families.

It's a small school which is what I love about it. They have great teachers and parents get along well. Thank you to Mrs.Diaz the principal of the school she is always there if you need anything.

An owner who cares about doing things right. Teachers who love their jobs. Many of the kids come from the area. They're also diverse, too, which we loved. So we have birthday parties in the nearby park, nature walks organized by parents, on top of all the lovely activities that the school provides. It's a pillar of our local lives, just a lovely lovely place.

The balance of creative and academic activities is so thoughtfully done. Each day is thoroughly designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Ms. Maria, Ms. Beatrice, and Ms. Angela are truly incredible. Their patience, kindness, and genuine love for the children made such a meaningful difference in our son's growth and confidence. They supported him beautifully in his learning and were especially amazing during potty training; always encouraging, gentle, and positive. Watching him thrive in their care has meant everything to us. Ms. Julia brings a level of professionalism, care, and organization that is truly felt throughout the school. She clearly understands how to thoughtfully run a preschool while still maintaining a warm, family like environment. We are endlessly grateful for the love, care, and strong foundation this school has given our son. West Hollywood Children's Academy is truly a gem, and we would recommend it without hesitation to any family looking for the very best preschool experience.
