It's my daughter's second year at Tree. It's been an absolute God-send. She loves going to school and looks forward to everyday. She even said she likes it better than her elementary school... which is saying A LOT (her elementary k-6 was UCLA Lab School which I consider the dream school). She has thrived at Tree like I never could have imagined. She is incredibly shy and deals with anxiety. Yet! She sang a solo in the school musical, joined the coding class as the only female and was in the school fashion show. I could go on and on. Academically, she is thriving as well. The school gives 1on 1 tutoring to every student 2x a week, has learning labs to do homework or get extra help. She hikes in the Santa Monica mountains or does yoga for PE, has amazing cooking classes and adores her teachers and classmates. AND is getting fantastic grades. Couldn't ask for more. read more

We have been at Tree Academy for two years. We love the new leadership! Pho has created such a positive environment. My daughter is thriving in the small class sizes. She is a 10th grader that is strong in math and they arranged for her to be in 12 grade math class. She is known personally, understood and supported by her teachers. Wonderful small school community! The entire school (grades 6-12, teachers & students) just returned from an experiential learning trip to Emerald Bay at Catalina for three days, focusing on coastal and marine ecology. My 6th grader went hiking, snorkeling, did archery and learned about the indigenous culture. Camping in the cabins with peers and holding council around the campfire was a great bonding experience for all. The amazing music program and opportunities to perform at Winter Jam and TREEchella in the Spring are major motivators for my son to attend this school, after years of struggling with school refusal. He is now a drummer, performing in several bands, and he enjoys his other electives like ceramics, weightlifting, and culinary survival skills. We have found the school to be committed to individualized learning and a creating a culture of respect and inclusion. The other reviews were accurate - a year ago when they were written. That's when we came to TREE and were very happy. Individualized learning. Small classes. Working with each child's learning styles. Not anymore. Halfway through last year the director and co-founder had a public pissing match with the other co-founder and quit. School hung in for the remainder of the year but barely. Fast forward to this year and new administration. Great communication so things seemed to be on the upswing. Sadly it was not to be. Teachers are being told not to teach "too much" because kids can't handle it. Students are being told to "watch Netflix" if they finish their work. There are rules in theory but no consequences to not following them. If you try to discuss things with the Director she will tell you she "hears you".... And that's it. TREE seemed like the answer to our search for a school that would work with our child's learning style but now it's basically a very expensive day care. (Tuition is going up 10 percent next year while offering less. If you just need a babysitter, TREE might work for you. read more

Sooooo grateful to have found Tree Academy!!! After years of struggling with my son to get his homework/schoolwork done and paying thousands in tutoring, just to keep him afloat with his grades. I was exhausted and had no idea where I was going to send him for high school. A regular prep school/high school wasn't going to cut it. I had to find something different... Thank goodness I found Tree! From the moment I walked into this school I knew it could be a game changer for my son. There was something different here and I knew it immediately! There is a positive vibe and happiness that runs through that building. Those kids are happy to go to school! Happy to see their friends, happy to see their teachers! I see it everyday at drop off and it continues to blow my mind! Tree Academy is a special place! These students feel seen and supported by their environment. Since the school is so small, the teachers are able to be more connected to their students. Allowing them more individualized attention. Instead of feeling self conscious to ask a question (as young people do, in a room full of other teens), my son is learning to advocate for himself and ask for help when he doesn't understand something. My son is thriving here! He gets in the car now and tells me how happy he is at Tree! He loves his school, loves his new friends! His progress report just came...all A's and a B!!! I can't even remember the last time I saw grades this good! He's doing his work and turning it in on time! He's proud of himself...and it's showing in every way! Thank you Tree Academy!!! read more

I notice there's a second review below, very positive,that has not yet been incorporated. Let me say as a parent whose child spent a valuable year at Tree (and has also attended satisfactory LAUSD schools), Ooga B. --from the message and the avatar, a small plush toy of little brain--could not be more mistaken. Our experience at Tree was not just enriching but life-changing for our son. Staff, administrators and curriculum are all superior and the learning is rigorous in a deeply supportive way. The well-fenced-off, nicely shaded recreation area is perfectly safe, and their off-campus programs for physical activity, includng Spartan races up and down state, are exemplary. read more

Poor communication runs rampant at Tree and it's apparent that the school does not value the contributions of parents, students, or staff. The school ethos is incoherent. The vision is a fragmented collection of ideas. There is a serious lack of transparency. A large percentage of the students have significant learning challenges and Tree is not at all equipped to support their needs. Beloved faculty suddenly disappear and there's not so much as an email to parents. Questions go unanswered and if you dare to speak up you're labeled a problem parent. Whether it's lack of experience or extreme arrogance, the school leaders seem to have no interest in implementing the mission they sold us on. With competant leadership this school could be great but at this time, we recommend you avoid Tree. read more
