I signed us up for the Bradley Method class with Amy after a brief chat with her on the phone. It was the best decision that we made during the entire pregnancy. We learned so much, that when we were faced with some complications at the end of the pregnancy, we navigated them well informed and with no fear. Most importantly we were given the knowledge and confidence to have an incredible home birth we had hoped for, which we couldn't have done without Amy. I can't say enough about her and the Bradley Method class and philosophy.

Delivering my baby through Riverdale Midwives was an experience I regret. I would not recommend…read morethem to first time parents. My primary midwife was Melida, she was unprepared and didn't react well to my questions- always responding with "you will learn about that in prenatal classes". We took the prenatal classes, and they were helpful but I still felt unable to ask Melida subsequent questions. I was sent to hospital to be induced. Melida failed to diagnosis that my water hadn't broken and had me on the highest level of Pitocin for several hours until the doctor came in to check and confirmed that it had not. Melida was also unable to attach the baby heart rate monitor without assistance. Later when the baby's heart rate fell several doctors came rushing into the room to take over. Thanks to their intervention my baby was born alive and well. When Melida was stitching me up she refused to stop when I told her I was in extreme pain until another midwife Linda made her stop and gave me a local anesthetic gel before continuing (there were 3 other midwives who at various times intervened/ helped Melida. I had never met them before. I had met 2 other midwives who were meant to be back-ups but I never saw them again.) After delivery Melida was inaccurate with her measurements of bilirubin and didn't seem capable of filling in the graph accurately. She told me to have bed rest for 2 weeks straight after giving birth given the ordeal it was and how damaged my perineum was. I was in severe pain and could still barely walk after 6 weeks. She failed to detect my diastasis recti (which was an 8 finger gap by the time I googled it several months later (having never heard of it before!) Her advice not to move from bed for 2 weeks directly contributed to my fecal loading (which is when poo is stuck in your colon and hardens causing extreme back pain, depression and inhibits diastasis recti healing). This was only diagnosed over a year later by a doctor. Melida completely ignored me after the baby was born telling me repeatedly that everything was normal with me, when it was not. I saw another of the midwives, Cate, but since she had not followed me and only met me as one of the midwives that came to help with delivery she repeated that everything was normal and I was discharged to figure out what was wrong alone. My recommendation for first time mums is to use a different midwifery clinic and deliver in a hospital (if nothing else than for peace of mind in case everything starts going downhill like it did in my case!)

I was so incredibly grateful for Helping Hands and Sharon fitting us into their schedule. As a first time mom new to Toronto I had zero support. I was so grateful for Sharon's care of our daughter and guidance for me as a new mother. She showed me how to use my breast pump, ways to help feed a bottle, burping and baby wrapping methods. She made me feel at ease and helped me get some rest in those early nights. Something I didn't think I could do anything about. I highly highly recommend considering a night doula if it's in your budget. It gave us peace of mind and we would definitely hire again for another child.

We had a WONDERFUL virtual/in person experience with Kristi and Jabir. Due to the pandemic, when we…read morehired them we went for the virtual package pre and post natal. We had a really informative and helpful one on one zoom call about 1.5 months prior to my due date, but they were answering my questions in our group WhatsApp chat from the moment I signed up! They always responded so promptly, and put our minds at ease. I had a c-section scheduled, but went into labour two days before! So Kristi was able to help guide me through the symptoms and contractions and advise us when we should head to the hospital. After we came home, we utilized them a LOT for all our baby questions from sleep patterns, rashes, breastfeeding, anything! We upgraded to have our lactation specialist come into the home and help us - 100% worth it and we still refer back to what we learned with her. Kristi is well versed in breastfeeding techniques, so helped us keep up with things - and when our baby cried straight for two days, was able to advise us over a call that the baby might still be hungry and need top ups, and solved our crying baby! We used our last session for an in person visit with Kristi, so she could meet our baby (lower risk times) and still she helped us with gas issues/ideas to help baby, etc. I cannot recommend this service enough! I'm a first time Mom, and having them in my corner was the best thing I did for myself and my family. Do not hesitate to hire them - even virtually - because they really do go above and beyond and it's a wonderful experience.

I had a natural birth and this helped me heal much faster. If it wasn't for midwives, I'd have asked for an epidural midway through my labor. Mary, Bianca, and Tarah did a great job. Brigid assisted as well. At St. Mike's I had a spacious delivery room with jacuzzi and a great view of Toronto. Thank you, guys, for your help and encouragement! Prenatal and postnatal support was fabulous. Almost always my appointments were on time. Being a first time mom, I worried about many things and gave quite a few early morning and weekend calls to Mary and Fariba. All, including the student, Tarah, were very knowledgeable. They provided awesome support and on one occasion came to visit me earlier than scheduled to make sure all was fine. I would not have received this level of support anywhere else. Absolutely outstanding care!

Everyone I encountered were so knowledgeable, compassionate and reassuring. My appointments were never rushed, I felt that all my questions and concerns were addressed and they gave me such valuable advice. My team was Kay, Safire, Sara and Laura. I also have had a few other midwives attend to me if the other were busy and they were great. I had an unbelievably calm birth at the Toronto Birth Center. They highly recommended me and I was a bit hesitant but I'm soooo thankful I chose the birth Center! The water tub was heaven sent!! I'm left with pleasant memories of the Kensington midwives. Especially of Kay, she left me with amazing words of advice and wisdom that had helped me throughout my journey of motherhood. Much love to all the women at the Kensington midwives!
