The food is always splendid: far more authentic than the generic Bangladeshi cuisine in city centres that the UK public have come to associate with "Indian" food. Meats from the tandoor are superbly seasoned and moist. Curries are full of flavour and have true character rather than being all "samey". The side dishes tried on last visit: okra, daal, tandoori roti and rice all truly excellent. Costs is cheap to reasonable. My only real criticism is that the place is a bit dead (never more than 2 or 3 tables occupied), which is a shame as the restaurant deserves a full house rather than a few loyal regulars... No reason to go back there. On way out the door, random employee asks for my phone number so he can order some electronics from the states and have me ship it to him.

I slept well, the water was hot, the towels were white and fluffy and there was fairtrade hot chocolate and biscuits on the tray. My room was at the back, and through the open window, I heard a strange mooing noise coming from the parklands behind. It turned out to be rutting stags! While I had my head stuck out of the window, flocks of green parakeets flew by. By this time, I started to think I shouldn't have had the prawn sandwich at lunchtime, but no, there are wild green parakeets all over that area! I will stay there again if I am ever in the area.

Booked through a travel agency who plans walking tours, my single night at Eckington Rooms was one of the nicest of the 6 nights they booked. As the only guests in the home - aside from the hosts - I was given the run of the entire third floor which meant that I could leave the door to my large room open and not worry about hearing anyone else or vice versa. The room was oversize, the home absolutely gorgeous, sparkling clean, and the decor cute and stylish. How do you top all that? Well, they didn't need to but being situated about 1 mile from East Molesey's charming downtown, the hosts offered to drive me there and come get me when I was finished eating and drinking. Is that not the definition of hospitality? The next morning, while eating a wonderful breakfast (included) in the dining room, the hosts again went out of their way to make phone calls on my behalf and arrange for me a round-trip cab ride with the fare pre-negotiated. In a place such as this I'd have liked to stay a few days, so comfortable was I feeling. Alas, the road called and I was off. Eckington Rooms is now just a wonderful memory of a comfy bed, a beautiful home, and the most helpful, gracious hosts I've ever encountered.
