In addition to price, location is important, but it can be a challenge if you don't know the city. When looking for a hotel for our five night stay, there were many affordable options in good areas of London, but in the end we chose 69 The Grove, a lovely B&B in the Vauxhall area of London, and it was a GREAT decision. 69 The Grove is so-called because the address is 69 Vauxhall Grove. It is in the Vauxhall area, which is just south of the Thames. While a bit further away from all the main attractions in London, it was just a five minute walk to Vauxhall Station, on the Victoria Line, and took just 20 to 30 minutes to get to wherever we needed to go. It was a perfect balance of being in a quiet residential area and having quick and easy access to the busier parts of the city. It was also within walking distance of many restaurants, parks, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Lambeth Bridge, and other attractions. I absolutely loved the area. The price of our five night stay was $1,205.35 CAD (including all taxes), and a full English breakfast is included each morning, Monday to Saturday -- an excellent value. While the room was small, it had everything we needed -- a private bathroom, comfy bed, a mini fridge and kettle, and it was clean and quiet. If my budget allows, I want to make another trip to London, and I hope 69 The Grove is still in operation. It was such a pleasant place to stay, and I would not hesitate to go back. I highly recommend 69 The Grove. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Hotels]

Her first visit was in 1985 (same owners then too) she was back in 2005 and again with me in 2011. The owner was in for breakfast one day and was delighted to hear the story. He said the most loyal guest had visited from the age of 5 to 90. Here are reasons pertinent to choosing the Harlingford yourself: * It's affordable and pleasant. * It's a short bus or tube ride or a moderate walk from Soho/Leicester Square Theatre * It's a short walk to a couple of tube nexuses where you can jump on nearly any train line * It's close to attractions like the British Museum The hotel is a two-star hotel and will be a different experience than a Hilton or W Hotel. However the price offsets this difference as you're saving £100-200 per night! The free full English breakfast can give you a substantial and quick start to your day. If you are addicted to Starbucks there are two within two blocks. There are several nearby dining spots including an Indian restaurant named Depa and a city-class fish shop named North Sea Fish Restaurant. My hope is that travelers find this post when looking for affordable lodging in London. Please send me a Yelp compliment to let me know if this review helped you book a place to stay in London. The location is great; very short walk into the center of town. There were a total of 3 heaters in the room (1 of which is in the bathroom). It was very chilly when I arrived, and it was so nice to thaw out in a warm space. My room - the Victoria - was quite spacious and had very lovely artwork along the walls. Cute little couch, too. There is a small "lounge" with a computer and mini fridge. We didn't have breakfast, so I can't comment on the food. Wi-fi is available in the lounge, but the owner said it's availability in the rooms varied depending on location in the house. Our connection was pretty good on the ground floor. We had stayed 3 days at a neighboring B&B (Number One Guest House) and the difference was night & day. Churchill was superior in every way. Bit more expensive, but worth it. The reason for 3 stars is simply the bed. All I felt were the metal springs. So uncomfortable, creaky, and sloping toward the center. Whether an establishment is a hotel, B&B, guesthouse, etc. I feel the most important aspect is the bed. We're here to spend the night, yes? Then let's not keep using mattresses when they are years past their expiration date. Maybe the beds in the other rooms were better? I can only hope. Note on payment: Their website says Paypal is accepted, but upon arrival we were told cash only. Check out time is 10AM. Overall, I would recommend, but check the mattress before committing to a room. If they do upgrade the beds, I'd be happy to come back and update my rating to 5 stars :)

Enjoyed the stay immensely and the only thing I regret is not being able to stay longer... Oh, and one more thing - absolutely fantastic home-made muffins we got with a breakfast - baked in the morning, still warm when we came down ! It turned out to be just what I had hoped to find, charmingly unpretentious, run by a warm and friendly couple of guys who were helpful in every way, from picking me up at the train station to helping me work out transportation to and from the performances and for my travel back (I decided to stay on 2 days after the operas, to get in a bit of local sightseeing and they were helpful there too) . The food was simple and tasty, and they made an effort to please individual tastes and needs. The room was simple and comfortable, with a charming view from the window of the downs, and the bed just great. No great chandeliers and snootiness, just friendliness, helpfulness and calm, exactly what I was looking for. I certainly will go back if my good fortune takes me back to that part of the world
