If you need a locksmith, this is the only place to consider. We were trying to re-key a lock for an interior door, and made the mistake of going to Home Depot. They had no real knowledge of how locks work and tried to use different parts from another type of lock, which didn't work at all. So we took our lock here and he first fixed it and then was able to re-key the lock. He is practicing an art and understands locks at a deep level. Wonderful service and value. I have used West End Cycle for the last six years. They have kept my old bike tuned up and I've purchased two new Schwinns from them. They have a nice selection of new and used bikes and have knowledgeable staff that have worked there for years. They are low pressure sales wise, but will assist you in picking out a bike that suits your needs and correctly fit the bike to you. They usually get any repairs I need done by the next day. I also used their locksmith service when we bought our new house. I took all my new locks to them and they rekeyed them before I had them installed. NOT a typical, friendly bike shop (using the term "bike shop" in this instance makes my stomach turn.) I asked to use a pump to air my tires...one gentleman was very nice and was going to let me use one, but the other guy asked me to bring my bike inside and they would air them. Sounds nice...but I explained that I would have to drag it out of my car, put my front wheel back on and then do the same to get it back into my car. Brian and the guys at West End have been around for decades as a local business in Galveston and have helped me out a few times. I've had keys cut there with no problems and bought a used bike, which was in good condition but needed repairs at the shop later because of my reliance on it as my primary source of transportation. West End Cycle Co. sucks! Do not take your bike there for a tune up! They will over charge you! I was looking to get my derailleur tuned up, new tubes, brakes adjusted, just the usual. I locked my keys in a rental car and didnt have a spare. I called these people and asked the price and how long of a wait. The girl quoted a price of $35.00 for the service and $15.00 dollars travel time with an ~30 minuted wait time. 1 hr later, a guy shows up in POS car and tells me it's gonna be $100.00 bucks. Took my bike by to have them look at my brakes and ill-shifting gears. Was engaged by two men that mumbled and demonstrated little interest in my situation or bike. They basically turned their nose up at my bike and said I should use the money to get another bike. Ended up taking my bike to Island Bicycle Co. where they fixed everything for $17. read more

Yeah, I agree with Jim, these guys are theives. I went in there to get a tune up and a wheel trued. When I got my bike back, I realized my FSA seatpost was changed out with another seatpost (they had switched out my seatpost with a cheaper one!). I immediately ask them what happened to my seatpost, and the guy gives me a dumbfounded look, walks off, and comes back apologizing for a careless 'accident'. I went to West End Cycle a few months ago to get a tune up on my bicycle. These guys were rude and overcharged. After I got my bike back, the derailleur was still shifting unevenly. To make things worse, when I took it back, they wanted more money to adjust the derailleur. Needless to say, I will not be going back there. read more
