This a small table-service burger restaurant opened in October 2017. The interior is semi-rustic with a few wooden booths than can seat six, plus a few freestanding smaller tables. At present you can choose from three different types of buns, or a bunless option, and a burger or Angus or Wagyu beef. There are also multiple cheeses and other toppings. They also have chicken and veggie options, and serve beer and wine.
The key point is that the beef, cheese and most other ingredients are locally sourced in West Cork.
Where is West Cork you may ask? I did ask several people. Our server said the beef was from Clonakilty. Someone else told me that Clonakilty was not really in West Cork, and that you had to go beyond Skibbereen to really be in West Cork.
Who cares? Is WCBC any good? Absolutely! A step above the Bunsen chain. I had the 6oz Angus with bacon, cheddar, mushrooms, and horseradish on a brioche bun and it was amazingly complex. Cooked medium/well with some juice, but not drippy. The brioche bun was excellent, firm and not too thick, making it an easy eat. The fries with ketchup were also first class, with subtle flavours, and no excess oil. Washed it all down with a pleasant glass of Merlot.
Service was wonderful. When I arrived there was no seating, however, I only had a three minute wait. I spent an hour and there was a steady stream of customers, so it was close to full at all times.
Overall an excellent experience. read more
