Great doctors who are knowledgeable and efficient. I like Drs. Jumper and Dr. Johnson before him.

Bay Retina Center has been treating me for the past six months. I had to go for a follow up check up today. Wow I was super impressed. They are taking utmost precautions and following very strict protocols for their patients' safety. There is very very very limited close contact. The outside doors are propped open, and there was no one in the waiting room. Every employee/doctor is careful. You are required to wear a mask in order to be admitted. They take your temperature upon arrival and limit talking . Dr. Lee only talks when he's 6 feet apart from the patient. They constantly sanitize the examination rooms and are being ultra cautious. I haven't felt that safe in a long time. If you are a patient here do not delay seeing them for important follow ups. You will be well taken care of in super sanitized surroundings!

I cannot recommend Dr. Lim highly enough!!! 17 thumbs up!!!…read more She is a miracle worker. I was the biggest scaredy cat about getting my cataract surgery done. I have been wearing glasses since the third grade and I am extremely near-sighted. One of my biggest fears is losing my sight. Dr. Lim made me feel extremely confident about getting the surgery. She explained the surgery in detail and she offered excellent advice about the right type of cataract lenses for me. The surgery itself was extremely quick and painless. I felt like I was at a Laserium show at a planetarium and not in an operating room. There are a number of follow-up appointments scheduled for the day and week after surgery. Both Dr. Chan and Dr. Zhang were caring, knowledgeable, and friendly at these follow-up appointments. The Walnut Creek office staff is also wonderful, friendly, and efficient. Being the nervous Nelly that I am, I did call them more than a few times with my worries. I am now seeing 20/15 out of my distance eye. I can read 4 point type out of my reading eye. I feel I should be on a lecture tour, wearing a Super Hero cape to match my new bionic eyes, touting the wonders of cataract surgery with Dr. Lim. She was thorough and personable. I felt that she was spot-on in her diagnosis and indicated next steps. I would be happy to return should the need arise.

My mother went to see Meng Lee, O.D. because she was experiencing vision loss. Despite her serious…read moresymptoms, he failed to properly evaluate or treat her condition. His care was dangerous, harmful, careless, irresponsible, and unprofessional. At the first visit, he performed some basic tests--eye pressure, vision check, and optic nerve exam--and told us her problems were just due to "old age." He never even mentioned the early cataracts that were documented in her record. At the second visit, he was still unsure of the problem. He did almost no new exams, "diagnosed" her with "dry eyes," suggested she "try" some eye drops, and said nothing else needed to be done--except repeatedly asking my mother to come back, without giving any clear explanation or follow-up plan. Instead, he pushed for glasses, even though glasses were not the cause of her vision problems. Most importantly, he did not perform or recommend any standard glaucoma tests, such as: Visual field testing OCT imaging Gonioscopy Pachymetry Referral to an ophthalmologist (a medical eye doctor) These are standard components of a complete glaucoma evaluation, especially in a patient aged 70, with cataracts and borderline IOP readings (20 mmHg is still within normal range but at the higher end). Although he presents himself as a "glaucoma-certified optometrist," he completely missed the signs of glaucoma and failed to manage my mother's serious condition. We specifically asked whether my mother might have glaucoma, and Dr. Lee told us no--without conducting any of the standard tests necessary to confirm or rule out that condition. We didn't question it at the time--because we didn't know about the standard glaucoma tests and trusted him, especially after he brushed it off and said she was "just old," as if that explained everything. Over two years later, a great doctor performed the proper tests and diagnosed her with advanced glaucoma at the first visit. Unfortunately, by then, the damage was permanent. This is a serious failure of care. If Meng Lee had properly evaluated her symptoms or referred her to a medical specialist, my mother's vision could have been saved. This level of negligence should not be tolerated in any healthcare setting. Someone who ignores clear signs of disease and fails to provide even the most basic standard of care should not be allowed to continue practicing. He should have his license revoked.

Unprofessional and Disrespectful of Patients' Time…read more My mother's appointment was scheduled for 1:20pm, yet we were kept waiting 51 minutes before being seen. There were no updates, no explanation, and no apology from the staff or the physician. When I mentioned--calmly--that my mother's time should be respected and that appointments should begin reasonably close to their scheduled time, Dr Gilbert replied: "Well, sometimes it works that way and sometimes it doesn't." That statement, paired with a complete lack of acknowledgment for the delay, was unacceptable. It reflected a dismissive attitude toward patient time and basic professionalism. I remained polite and civil throughout the interaction, but left with the impression that punctuality and patient communication are simply not valued here. If you expect respect, accountability, or even a simple apology for excessive wait times, I would advise seeking care elsewhere.

Dr. Gilbert performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. After my first eye was done, I complained of severe blurred vision. He told me it was normal and insisted that we move forward on the second surgery. Unbeknownst to me, he caused permanent damage to my corneas, and at the age of 48, I can no longer see properly. I have to wear hard contact lenses for the rest of my life to see a bit better and to stop further deterioration, unless I want to do a cornea transplant. He told me that the worst case scenario post surgery would be that I maybe would need reading glasses and might have a bit of halos around lights at night. When he realized that I was not healing properly, he promised me that he would stick with me and help me find solutions. I never heard from him again. I worked with the ophthalmologist who referred me, different eye specialists, had to have an MRI, and finally met with a skilled doctor who was able to diagnose me and confirm that based on my records it is obvious that this damage happened during surgery. I also was told by his receptionist when I asked for medical records that I would have to come back to get them later because he likes to have the opportunity to go over them and change them before releasing them to the patient.
