I had…read morebeen through a string of book-keepers and accountants because my propensity to AVOID looking at the details of my own bookkeeping was setting me up to have my bookkeeper and accountant guess at what I wanted or take matters into their own hands. It worked 90% of the time. But that last 10% was killing me. My self-perception was that I couldn't do this on my own, but I deep down I knew if I just tried to hand off the whole mess to another bookkeeper this wouldn't not work. Ben not only taught me now only how to install and work with Quick Books, but his calm demeanor taught me how to plod away at the difficult seemingly unresolvable issues one step at a time. We met once a week for several months. He never judged me when I asked him to repeat what he had already taught me last week... or when I failed to to the "homework" because it felt overwhelming. He would simply address my confusion about the solution, and have me do it with him by my side. Sometime I would need to do the process over and over with him watching me and he never lost patience. His attention to detail is ridiculously high... often better than my accountants. Through him I found myself discovering loose ends that might have led to problems down the line that were instead pre-empted with his attention. Most times his repeating of lessons (per my request) led to more complex bookkeeping issues being revealed and we would attack that together as well. It was the perfect balance to my "avoidance" behavior around bookkeeping. I am not sure I will ever love doing my own bookkeeping but I know that when I find my next bookkeeper he/she will more likely be the right one. Not only will I be handing over better, more organized raw data. to them.. and systems... but I know what level of complexity my bookkeeper needs to understand and exactly what my "oversight" tasks needs to be to keep everything on track. If you are a small business owner and you want to be your own book-keeper... or if you DON'T... Working with Ben is the best way to go. His patience, lack of judgement, intelligence and diligence is exemplary. Working with Ben Shor is the one business decision that has given me the greatest ROI in the last 20 years! I had a phone conversation with her which went really well. Had a good feeling about her. She seemed like a really nice professional women. Long story short she needed some statements from my bank account and credit card account business account. I sent all of those to her never heard anything back from her which as a potential Client ghosting somebody after they just gave bank statements then ghost them is not a good feeling. This puts a lot of worry on us business owners maybe it's a scam oh my gosh, she has my information, etc.. I text her on multiple occasions to get in touch. She's ignoring me. She even put me on mute silence her notifications on her phone for me so I'm leaving this here to inform the rest of you about this situation. I will attach photos below. Definitely plan to stay with Chantal moving forward for tax returns and consulting. We chose to go with Chantal after contacting and talking to several CPA's. I liked that she is a sole proprietor and not a multi-accountant firm (more personalized service), her pricing is fair, and she was very up-front about what she could / could not do and even suggested we screen CPAs in the valley. As well her accounting background is solid, including stints working for big firms. So far all our interactions have been remote (which I like), but since she's local there's the option of meeting face to face should the need arise. I find Chantal to be professional, prompt, and attends appointments on time. She answers questions promptly, and even sends reminders when we had an outstanding action. I like that she uses the TaxDome portal for our exchanges: sending documents back and forth, and chat messages for Q&A. For me, this is much more convenient than having to drive to someone's office, and pick up the phone and call every time I have a question.
