The director and staff at COA in Oswego are so unprofessional on many levels. I am going to start by saying my son (who happens to have mild Autism) was hired as a Teaching Assistant. This was told to them on his resume, as well as discussed at the interview. He was hired at COA about 6 months ago. Since being hired, he has been picked on, made to do work that other TA's are not made to do ( ex. clean all floors and toys in all classrooms). Written up for incidents that were embellished by other staff as a means to get him in trouble. Treated with disrespect and now after today called a racist because of a mis-pronunciation of a last name. His own family is comprised of 4 different races. He doesn't have a mean or racist bone in his body. My son, even through all of this, has continued to show up and work every day. He has taken the 10:30 am lunch even when he got to work at 9 am and others have been working since 6 am. He never complained about this unfair treatment due to feeling like he could lose his job all the time. It was evident in his anxiety that he felt left out and not supported at all. He recently had his hours cut, supposedly due to lack of enrollment. Although the center hired 4 new staff since he was hired and he was the staff with hours cut to 15 hours a week. They have treated him like he wouldn't know better and continuously pick on him. They expected him to be alone in a classroom, and because he spoke up and said he wasn't comfortable with this, his hours were cut. What a sad and unfortunate work experience for a young man who just felt he would like to work with young children. As he comes from a family who fostered other children throughout his life. He has had experience working and caring for kids quite a bit, just not in the daycare setting. As his Mom, I really felt this would be a great opportunity for him. How sad of COA to treat someone who is "different " with such disrespect that he no longer wants to work in an environment like that. I doubt you would want your children attending a place that treats their employees this way either. I know I wouldn't. If I thought my son could have written this himself, I would have him do so. His disabilities don't define him. His heart does. We will move on from here, but not without speaking our TRUTH.

I never have a question about what happened in the classroom that day. No accident/injury/illness/issue goes without advanced notice to the parent directly and a written report for home and school files. Lots of opportunities and events to engage parents and extended family. And the curriculum in each classroom has proven to help my child succeed in all of the developmental stages and socializing with others. We were referred to this place from a friend who also had kids there, and assumed Our first time with a daycare will go smoothly. I DO NOT recommend taking Your child here. The first day (and only day) we dropped off our 13 month old there, we were told that he did not sleep, and had a fever...AFTER his mother had picked him up. We noticed that he had a bruise on his head as well, and only after pressing them for more information they told us that he was banging his head on the crib. Few things to point out- In their own policies, if the child gets hurt in anyway they will contact the parents. My gf was told when she picked him up. The pictures they send throughout the day shows that he got the bruise HOURS before she showed up. Next is the fact that he developed a fever and they STILL did not notify us until he was picked up. And finally, after probing them for the policy violations they committed they admitted that it was a mistake on their part and they should have notified us IMMEDIATELY. I cannot convey my anger enough in this review because after we took him home so he could finally sleep and tend to his fever, he had a fibril seizure and was transported to the hospital. He was at Kindercare for 6 hours...and everything I was worried about having random people taking care of my child was validated. So to sum it all up, on the FIRST DAY our child: -could not be put to sleep -was neglected long enough for him to bang his head against a crib to develop a bruise on his head -developed a fever which the parents were not told until he was picked up. Like I said they admitted they did not follow their own policy so we received a full refund for the week, because we were NEVER coming back. On a side note he is doing better at a different daycare, obviously better taken care of than at this place. So if you're looking for a place for your infant, like another reviewer said on here DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PLACE.

The genuine care they showed to our kids (and our whole family, honestly) for the past four years has been extraordinary. My kids were happy to walk through those doors every single day. We were always greeted by smiling staff members. The kids learned so much from the curriculum they used. The teachers made everything so fun! (Ms. Pam, our kids were talking about your St Patrick's shenanigans JUST today- you created memories they'll never forget). We took advantage of the phonics enrichment they offered (Ms. Alison, we love you!) All kids also received some Spanish curriculum, too! We received pictures, notes, and updates daily through their app. The directors, Ms. Rachna and Ms. Alyssa, are simply wonderful. They work so hard to make the center a true community, and we enjoyed all the daycare parties they hosted outside of normal hours to allow families to connect and socialize. Our kids were safe, well-fed (thank you, Ms. Jackie!), loved, and engaged every day. Leaving this place for elementary school was genuinely so difficult because of the relationships we built here. He and his classmates always seem to be having such a fun time, the teachers and staff are so warm and engaging and super friendly. The meals and snacks that are provided are a combination of healthy and balanced, however serving it to toddlers, one has to dress it up as kid friendly food. Toddlers aren't foodies and the staff are not gourmet chefs, but the food is healthy and tasty and more importantly the kids like it and EAT it. When I babysit my grandson, he actually doesn't sit and eat, he grazes will only eat a hot dog, ( or at least only a few bites of it) or mac and cheese and will only take 2 bites and be full. At Hometown however the teacher tells me that he eats all of his food and usually asks for more! The PreK program he is in provides him with all the learning he needs and is very structured. All the kids seem to really enjoy each other and the classroom. The teachers and staff are safety conscience and truly seem to enjoy being there as do the kids. I only wish I could have given my children at the time a day care as awesome as Hometown. Back in the day, my children went to daycare that was average, today's kids are lucky and even luckier if they go to Hometown.

The teachers bring fun and lots of variety to his day! The food is also good on variety, and my son seems to enjoy all of it! They are VERY mindful of allergies, special diets or requests when it comes to food. They keep things color coded and organized so that each child gets what they are supposed to at meal times. I also have an infant there now and they make sure he's included even though he's not participating in the activities yet. I love how easy it is to stay in touch. They have an app where you can put in all your notes about the kids before they go, and then the app gets updated throughout the day so you know how much they eat, how they are pottying, napping, etc. and they can upload photos and videos which is so great! I feel connected to my kids during the day! Also, their administration team is super helpful. I've had plenty of phone calls and emails with them and they are super responsive and know their stuff. The admins will set you up with a zoom conference to meet your child's teacher if they are switching classes. My mind is at ease when my kids are at daycare, because they think of everything! Being in a pandemic, it was not an easy choice to decide if we send our kids to daycare. But everyone over 2 is masked, they require daily screening and frequent hand washing to keep everyone safe. I can't say enough good things about Kensington. Both of our boys went to Kensington from an early age. In fact, our oldest son went to Kensington in La Grange for a few years. Overall he had a great experience in La Grange, but this location was hands down better. Better administrator, teachers, and facility. Both boys flourished while at Kensington. But here is the proof positive that they do well for your kids. Our older son is now eight and in the 3rd grade. He's doing really well - LOVES to read, placed in advanced math, and overall, just enjoys school and learning. I believe Kensington teachers had a lot to do with that outcome. I do have to agree with other Yelpers that the corporate management is not great having had a few run-ins with them over billing. It's also costly. As much as it stinks to pay lots of money for child care, it's worth it. It was money well spent and I'd do it over again in a New York minute.
