Originally we booked our appointment for Thursday, February 13 at 11:40 PM. Unfortunately the weather was bad so I did receive a text and a call asking me to reschedule, or help me through the process of a refund. I rescheduled my appointment for Saturday, February 15 at 1 AM, unfortunately my appointment was rescheduled one more time. This time around I was just rescheduled without a conversation. I did not appreciate that because the time they rebooked me for did not work for me but I was able to reach out by text and was rebooked for a time that worked with no issues. I just appreciated the first time around where I was part of the conversation for the rescheduling as being rebooked without my approval seemed inconsiderate. That is one of the reasons I'm not giving five stars. The address on Yelp needs to be updated it is not 2726 perimeter rd but rather 2990 N Rancho Drive Las Vegas, NV 89130. Thankfully I was already aware of the area so I knew where it was. At 3 AM it's dark and lonely but if you look at your instructions in your email it will tell you who to contact . They will then go ahead and pick you up in a golf cart. I wish they would mention this through text when they sent you the reminder of your appointment. Because those instructions are in the body of the email so at first glance I did miss that part but that is just personal feedback nothing on their end as they did their part by putting it in the email. Once you're picked up in a golf cart they take you into the garage where they check your weight, I will say I appreciate the way that they go about it because they don't put you on blast nor is it display so if you have any insecurities with that they handle this very well . Then they go after their safety rules, and the instructions. They offer you cookies and water and you're sitting under a heater, an amazing experience but unfortunately the staff members were talking about their favorite and least favorite customers. I think there's a time and a place for those type of conversations so I found that to be inappropriate. I felt pretty awkward just because it felt very unprofessional on their end. The stories were nothing crazy, but again there's a time and a place. Once the group in front of me was done I was taken to the helicopter in the golf cart so no walking at all. They took pictures of us in front of the helicopter. Inside the helicopter the only thing I will say is it was hard to hear even with the headset as it kept breaking up although the pilot was really clear. I was not able to communicate with my boyfriend but I was able to hear everything the pilot was saying to me, which honestly in the scenario I'd rather hear the pilot than my boyfriend. The view was amazing and the pilot was really nice and tried his best to add onto the experience by mentioning fun facts. For just me and my boyfriend it was gonna be $200 plus tax but I did use Groupon which made the flight for both of us around $168 a really good deal. What a great experience! My dad was in town and it's hard to find things to do to entertain him as he doesn't speak English and isn't really into shows and things. Also doesn't like to eat out unless it's a self-serve buffet. I was stumped. Until a friend mentioned a helicopter ride over the strip. It's something I always wanted to do and my parents have never been on a helicopter. It was a hit! The view over the strip was really beautiful and I saw the F1 race tracks for the first time! My parents really enjoyed the ride and it was so exciting for all of us. Was a bit cold in November to ride across the flight line so I recommend dressing warmly, especially since the ride is at night. Also this is a woman owned business! I just want to put it out there that I bought a Groupon - Vegas strip tour for 2 people. In my experience, as soon as I mentioned I bought this as a Groupon, I started getting treated a little differently. I digress... I called to reserve a time. I forgot her name but incredibly patient (As I mentioned I'd never flown in a helicopter before) and kindly answered all of my questions. She didn't make me feel rushed at all. I booked our tour for 9 pm on a Wednesday. She sent a text with further details regarding parking, call box instructions, etc. We arrived without issue using the aerial view screenshot detailing exactly where to park. We sat and awaited our West Air Representative (forgot his name) who promptly arrived to pick us up at the gate in a golf cart. He then gave us paperwork to fill out and during this time, 3 more reservations arrived. Once we were all done with the paperwork, we were given a very detailed briefing about what to expect, and how the experience should look. Additionally, they took all precautions to ensure we understood safety protocols. We were then "carted" to the helicopter, given last-minute safety instructions, and escorted inside. The pilot, Mauzzy (I think) took us up, and gave us a great tour of Las Vegas. We booked a helicopter tour down the strip with West Air Helicopters on Thursday September 5, 2024 during our most recent trip to Las Vegas, and when we arrived we were greeted and picked up at the gate by Kyle who was SUPER friendly and VERY informative! We really enjoyed talking to him while we were waiting for our turn to go up in the air, as we got there about an hour early. He also performed a very detailed safety briefing with us and helped us complete all of our pre-flight paperwork. Then the time came to go up in the air, Kyle took us out to board the helicopter. Once we got out to the helicopter and he assisted the previous group in getting off of the helicopter, Kyle took several photos of us as a memory with our personal cell phone in front of the helicopter. Then he helped us both in boarding the helicopter and handed us our headsets and explained how to use them and everything. He then introduced us to our pilot, her name was Ashley and she was not only a great pilot she was a great tour guide too! She pointed out many of the famous sites and attractions of Las Vegas as we flew over them....INCLUDING the Walmart parking lot as we were approaching the airport on our way back! I've been taking lessons with Troy at West Air since last October (2018). Thus far, it has been a fantastic experience. Troy knows his stuff, but never teaches with an attitude of superiority (as can sometimes be the case). He recognizes that students learn by doing, and yes, even making mistakes. Don't misinterpret that last statement. He does not sacrifice safety. But he let me fly some less than perfect landings, so that I could feel how the airplane reacts and learn from it. In other words, I highly recommend Troy at West Air. I also flew with Alex once for a stage check. West Air has a policy where, at critical points of your training (like when your instructor thinks you are ready to solo), they have another instructor fly with you for a second opinion. It's a great policy and gives you a chance to get input from another CFI (everyone's flying style is different, I have learned). For the limited time I flew with Alex, she was also great. If I had to say a "con" about West Air, it would be that they seem to wait until the 100 hour inspection to fix some non-critical maintenance issues. This may be the norm, but I have no frame of reference. And one aircraft has had an inoperable stall warning horn the entire time I have been there. I would like them to place more emphasis on the minor maintenance issues, but overall, that is not enough to warrant a downgrade to 4 stars, given the quality of instruction. read more

I went flying with Kenneth Irvine of West air aviation when I was visiting Vegas. He was very approachable (and looks like Burt Reynolds funnily enough) and really knew his stuff. We did a walk through of the sectional map for Vegas before we went flying which gave me more hands on knowledge of the airspace. The C172s that they fly are a bit old and the one I flew didn't have a glass cockpit, but I actually found that more enjoyable than having the modern cockpits with its fancy displays. We flew that baby around Nellis AFB, Lake mead and along the mountains. I was a little disappointed we couldn't fly through the Class B airspace near the strip, but that wasn't really in our control either! The entire outfit was very professionally run and I enjoyed my combined instructional/joy ride with these guys. Also thought the price was quite reasonable. Would definitely come back next time. read more

I've been a private pilot since 1999 and since I have always rented planes and been a member of a fly club I feel that I can justify the expense of renting a plane and instructor when I travel somewhere. Besides Vegas I have done flights with instructors in San Francisco, Orlando (helicopter) and in the UK.I have used West Air three times now when I have been in Vegas. The first time I rented one of the 172's. In 2011 I flew the T-41B and this past weekend I rented N7565X, their 182RG. I had Daryl Governale as the instructor. Daryl was a very competent instructor - I have about 75 hours in 182RG's and Daryl was not one to hover over the controls. 65X was a nice plane that flew well. Rigged very well. All that was needed was light control input on the yoke to maintain altitude and heading. The former owner put over 40K into the avionics. We planned a flight using my WingX program on my IPAD that took us over the Las Vegas speedway and well into AZ to see the Grand Canyonn. We then flew down Lake Mead and made a circle around the Hoover Dam. Ground speed was 140-165 kts the whole trip. There are several arrivals back to the North Las Vegas airport and since I did the Corteses arrival last time I opted for the "numbers - numbers" arrival that only the locals know. Daryl said approach will only give it to you 50% of the time. Once cleared into the class bravo airspace and cleared for the approach I flew directly over the Henderson airport, turned to a heading of 110 and then flew directly over the numbers of the parallel runways 25L/R at McCarran airport which took us right past the Stratosphere and the strip for a right down wind on 12R at North Las Vegas. Total flight time was 2.2 hours. 3.0 instructor time with the preflight. Cost was $600. Spend it at West Air or lose it in the slots. Just depends on what you want to do when you're in Vegas. read more

I went flying in the Staggerwing with the Chief Pilot Daryl and had an amazing time. Flying in this timeless aircraft was nothing short of incredibe. The history of the biplane was so interesting to learn about. Knowing that I was flying in a plane that was a part of World War II literally gave me the chills. The pilots at West Air are extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. Our take off and landing were perfect and I really enjoyed the tour as well. Five stars all around! read more
