I have a few pair of kick around pair that I got online, but I wanted to be fitted for a quality pair. My sales reps (yes, plural, two women helped me) were knowledgeable, they helped me understand the difference between the proper snug fit and just plain too tight. Did you know a good fit boot should "flip flop" on the heel a bit? Did you know that snug fit on the top of your foot is expected because a well made boot will stretch? Me either! I went through a process to find what I liked. I tried high end boots and even a few on sale. I landed on an Arait and she felt so good on my foot. I didn't purchase that day because I wanted to try all my options. I made the mistake of going to another boot store on Lynnhaven Parkway--I won't say their name here. The service was like leaving Gucci and going to Walmart! I got a "Let me know if you need some help" yell from the front of the store". No one insisted on taking my boots off--like they did at Acredale: no one explained the leather construction and enforced stitching on the boots; no one explained how to wiggle my toes to squeeze into the boot--in fact, all I got from the employee was how she liked square toed boots and not the snip toes I was considering, and how every boot I looked at she already bought that boot. I left quickly and I already know I am gong to return to Acredale! In a day and time that customer service has gone to the way side, the customer service you receive here is nothing short of amazing. You need not worry, I will be back.

I walked in and had in mind a specific boot, a Ariat boot and I only knew that the color was whiskey barrel. Immediately one of the ladies knew it was model Hazen just from the color... I did not expect them to have this boot in stock but they did. I had 3 employees help me, find the boot, the correct size and showed me how to take the boots on and off... So awesome. Even stretched the calf a bit so it would fit perfect and they do!! Such a great experience and i'm so happy with my new boots!

With is help, he has introduced me into some excellent brands and helped me find some outstanding outfits and has done a lot to help me understand how things should fit. I've been to too many places that have told me that ill fitting clothing looked great, when in fact it did not. Ulysses will let you know when something isn't quite right as he wants you to look your best. When asked he has also pointed me to some excellent resources for me to learn more on the subject on how to dress like an adult. 2) The brands you will find at this store are not what you will find at your department store. That is because the brands here are a much better in fit, finish, and materials than what you will find elsewhere. 3) While the prices are a bit high, you are buying an item that is of much better quality material and finish. They also include free tailoring on items paid at full price. 4) End of season sales are a great time to save some coin. Keep an eye out for trunk shows as well.

I love Mom and Pop type shops. There are some service areas that you find more than others. Shoe…read morerepair is one of them, there is no such thing as a chain, these are small independent businesses that have been around for years and in many cases have had the trade handed down from Father to son. In other case from owner to apprentice. The shoe shop repair business has dried up. Fifteen years ago there were over 60k, today less than 6k. In our area of Hampton roads there are two, or three. The shop is behind Subway on Great Neck. If you turn just prior that will take you to the strip located behind them. Parking is plentiful and you can pull right up to the door. There are lots of small independent services along the strip and it was interesting taking a look at them. Unless you have a reason you will not see them from the main road. I found the parking lot and walks clear of debris. Signage was good, they are at the very North side. This was my first time in the shop. I met David, the owner of London Bridge Shoe Repair who has operated the business for 30 years. He has one assistant and surprisingly said he needs another. According to David they have more than enough business to keep them busy and make a living. They do all kinds of repairs on leather, but specialize on shoes and boots. Want to get your shoes shined by a professional while they are on your feet? They also have various retail products for shoes/boots such as polish, cleaning brushes etc. He can do that too! Don't expect the store to be well organized. There are leather items here and there scattered about. The retail items do present well. The floor was clean. I enjoyed my conversation with him and found that he was well suited to not only repairs, but customer service. So the reason for my visit was to pick up dance shoes for my daughter. They come with a smooth leather bottom that needed a non skid surface. The service they provide does not come cheap. The cost was $15 and it would be interesting to know pricing of materials and amount of labor. I think he does quite well. The workmanship looked good to me, but of course the test is after there worn. With the amount of shoes being made overseas, mainly in China for very cheap the industry has notably declined. That does not mean there are not consumers who purchase higher quality items that make it worth to repair vs. replace. I recall the days I use to resole my shoes, but have not had that done in over 15 years. I am thrilled to support local businesses. Hopefully providing a first review will bring awareness to this shops location for others that may need leather repairs.

So, I took my carry-on travel bag to Miller's Shoe Repair & Alternations. The backstory. To avoid having to carry it with me while traveling, I had checked the bag. Unfortunately, when I got to my final destination, the zipper that was on the bag was not there. The zipper was still zipped up, but the zipper was missing. I only had the bag for about three months, so I figured I'd see if someone could fix it. Getting back to Miller's, they took a look and advised me what was needed in order to fix the bag. They didn't guarantee if they could fix it, because of the zipper type. (Yah, I learned something new about zippers.) They told me they would try and see what they could do. They charged me and I was given a claim ticket to come back in a couple of weeks. I got back and it was fixed! I was highly impressed by their ability to fix the issue, and I appreciate them setting the expectations that they might not be able to after explaining to me why. They are very knowledgeable and a great place to go to in order to get timely work done. They are located in Ward's Corner, so they are local for anyone who lives in that area.
