This is an excellent gym for all levels of BJJ. I had trained Muay Thai for many years, but had never done BJJ until signing up here. It is with mixed feelings that I write this review. I started my Jiu Jitsu journey at Werdum Training Center. I received my share of bumps and bruises as a white belt. I brought my children in to train with Felipe Werdum. I enrolled my wife of 10 years to train with me. I watched proudly as my family received our stripes. Eventually, I was promoted to Blue Belt. It was a wonderful journey. I spent hundreds of hours on those mats, and thought I was learning lessons of brotherhood, understanding, mutual support, and respect. The art of Jiu Jitsu was a brotherhood and sisterhood, and I was blessed to be in that space. However, over time, a darker side of Werdum Training Center crept in. By way of background, my wife, who years earlier survived a brain tumor the size of baseball, but still has residual damage to her frontal lobes, and who suffers a lack of judgment, and a lack of social mores, began to attract attention from the other fighters in the gym. At first it was due to her strong grips, and enthusiastic approach to BJJ. Later, however, several upper belts began asking her out, sending her amorous or inappropriate Facebook messages, and "hug" and "kiss" emojis before tournaments. Seeing the writing on the wall, I made clear to the professors and the higher belts that my wife suffered brain damage, and that continued attention could lead to serious consequences for my family and myself. Nonetheless, the inappropriate behavior continued until my wife and I suffered a marital separation. In a heartfelt plea to the members of the gym at a morning class, including the professors, I explained that my wife was likely experiencing issues related to her brain damage, and that we needed space to work on our relationship for the sake of our two young children. To his credit, the black belt professor at the time told the other fighters that they should respect the gym, respect my family, and respect my efforts to mend a broken relationship with a mentally broken wife. I vividly recall what the professor (who is no longer teaching at Werdum) said that day . . . "we roll together in the gym, but outside of the gym is their lives, and we must respect that." While most men did show respect to my efforts to reconcile with my wife, one purple belt (now black) and one blue belt (now purple) continued with their efforts to interfere with my marriage, as they saw that my wife was confused, vulnerable, and easily influenced. On several occasions I spoke directly with these two men about the problems they were creating, and each time, they placed the blame squarely on my wife's shoulders. Although there were promises of respecting the relationship and our children, behind the scenes, their efforts remained persistent towards my wife. Eventually, the reconciliations failed, due in part to the unwanted attentions arising from several members, and a Black Belt Professor at Werdum Training Center. I then moved to another gym to train, as I could not trust that my training partners at Werdum who were trying to sleep with my wife, would be safe and respectful when torqueing an arm bar or sinking in a foot lock. After I left, the pressures became worse towards my wife. Offers of free private lessons, after-class free private instruction, reduced prices on mat time, free mat time, or free month-to-month membership came in from the upper belts, and also from Professor Felipe Werdum. Those in-gym perks eventually were joined with offers of drinks at UFC fight nights, coffee, dinner, late night walks, and direct solicitations for intimate relationships. Eventually, Professor Felipe Werdum, knowing full well of my wife's brain damage, instability, and vulnerability entered into a sexual relationship with my wife, which he requested remain "secret." At the same time, a former member of the gym also entered into a sexual relationship with my wife, under similar circumstances. My wife and I are now divorced, thanks in part to Werdum Training Center. BJJ was the best thing that ever happed to me. Werdum Training Center . . . the worst. Although there are many quality fighters at the gym, it is managed by a sexual predator (Felipe Werdum) who apparently sees the black belt on his waist as a license to prey on vulnerable women. I cannot recommend Werdum Training center to any woman who wishes to be free of a sexual hostile environment, or a sexual predatory environment. Nor can I recommend to any men that they bring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, or sisters into the gym, lest they catch the eyes and non-professional interest of Felipe Werdum. It is sad that it has come to this. However, Werdum Training Center is simply not a safe place for women to train, unmolested. read more

This review is long overdue. I have been training at Werdum Training Center for about 10 years. I walked into the school initially to just check it out. I was immediately greeted warmly by Fabricio Werdum and welcomed to his new school. I felt very comfortable and decided on the spot to sign up. Best decision I ever made. I was about 40 yrs old and relatively new to Jiu-Jitsu at the time. Long story short...they were patient with me and helped me to learn the beautiful art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I am now on the verge of turning 50, training 3-4 days a week as a brown belt and I feel great. I am extremely happy with my journey and experience at WTC. I strongly recommend this school to everyone...kids, men and women. I hope to see you all on the mats. OSS! read more

My experience here started out great but has been steadily going down hill. There used to be a number of different BJJ instructors teaching but then the 3 best left one after the other. There is supposedly a Brentwood location but I defy you to find it as it is not listed anywhere. If you try to call this place, their voicemail is full. It looks like they failed to renew their internet domain now so they don't even have a website. Fabricio does not train here, he trains down at King's MMA in Huntington Beach. This is just a poorly run business now which is a shame. I don't know why things have taken such a turn but I hope things turn around otherwise I will have to find a new school. read more

The best of the best train here aka Fabricio and many other fighters and its also a great place for those simply looking to get skillful in BJJ or another martial art. I'm in town for the week, and a friend and I decided to get some mat time in this weekend and hit up Werdum Combat Team. For background, I'm a purple belt who has trained at over a dozen different academies in the US and Japan. Fabricio was at his gym working the desk when we showed up, which was amazing to me since I'm sure he's exceptionally busy. He was very friendly and let my friend and I get pictures with him before he had to leave. Everyone at the gym was nice which made it easy to feel comfortable and make friends. Since it was an open mat I can't really rate the classes. I did get to roll with a few guys, including another purple belt named Steve and a blue belt named Marco. Neither of them were meatheady at all which was great--you get that sometimes being a visitor to a gym, especially if you're coming in with rank. Don't misread that; they were both very game and aggressive opponents with technique to back it up. We had some good and challenging rolls. I hope to be able to train there again next time I'm in the Venice/Culver City area. read more

So I started off learning MMA through a private instructor some years ago. I always thought 1 on 1 was better and was hesitant about doing group classes. After a couple years my instructor convinced me to come check out this gym and I have loved it ever since. They've got top notch instructors and once in a while you get to see some big MMA stars including Fabricio Werdum. It's a small gym and everybody is super friendly and very helpful. Although I think they need to expand the size of the gym (which they already have plans to and is only because they've become SO popular!), there are elements to this experience you won't find anywhere else. 1) NO egos...only a strong team. 2) Fabricio is an active instructor there...with his caliber and experience, 'nough said. I'm a firm believer that Jiu Jitsu is fundamental to self defense especially for women. We all hope that we will never have to use it but I think everyone would agree that it's better to know how to defend yourself than live in the world of wishful thinking. Since starting here I have learned a tremedous amount. Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing have also had positive impact on my self confidence which translates into all aspects of my life. And it's fun! The instructors and teammates here are wonderful. They push me to be the best I can be. No one sets limits for me because I'm a girl. They're encouragement gets to moments of achievement that I didn't know was possible. Great ego-free Jiu Jitsu MMA gym. Everybody, from teacher to students are very welcoming and make you feel right at home. However, that doesn't mean that when it comes time to get down they'll go easy on you. The warm ups are great, and you learn something new every class. Fairly new to bjj I started training at another school and there was something missing. I started gym hopping before I finally found this awesome place! The key thing that was missing was *drumroll please* a family vibe!! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is down to earth and willing to go out of their way to teach you a thing or two. Now don't think its an easy gym, for as much as it is chill, they will make you work your a$$ off! I signed up for a year, that's a pretty big commitment but def worth it! Really like it here. The coaches and the team(the people training there) are all super cool with a good attitude. What I wanted when looking for a place to train Jiu Jitsu was finding a place that was competitive and would push me to the next level, but also train with guys who have a mutual respect for my safety so I can keep training. And this place was it. The talent there will push you hard , and everyone is friendly and respectful. If you have no martial arts experience at all, you will have no problem walking into this place cold. A legit Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school that is not too intimidating for beginners, but also very competitive for advanced belts. This is probably one of the worst places to do jiu-jitsu. The owner is a jerk. All he does is make you run like instead of learning Jiu Jitsu technique. If I wanted to run I would go to the gym and get on the treadmill.When Lucas teaches the class(He is the owner) all he makes you do run. Doesn't really care about working on technique. It's more of a condition class then Jiu Jitsu. Do not go here. It's a piece of crap. Go to Gracie Barra or Rey Diogo Jiu Jitsu. They have a curriculum unlike the crappy Werdum. read more
