I thought I was really going to like this place with its bright atrium. However, it was a odd weather day. Cold and overcast morning but warmed up in the afternoon. It got stuffy. Also there were an inordinate amount of flies. The waiters do everything such pulling the beer. Hence, always on the go even though there aren't a lot of customers. I felt a bit short-changed when my beer loss a third of the volume after the foam disappeared. My duck entree plate lacked flavor and the sauce had an odd licorice seasoning. Tipping is for good service so I felt a little uncomfortable with waiter waiting for a tip, but fairly absent while I dining. read more

Overall, it's a great stop. They have 3 beers on tap made here, traditionall Pils, alt amber and New Year's special with champaign yeast. One of the beers is rotating each month. I drank all 3, duh. They were solid. I was impressed with the pils! The food was traditional. I had a typical Saxony meal because I'm in the capital of Saxony! It was great. Service was solid. It is hard to find a classic German Restaurant Beer Garden that is not great, but they do exist. This one is not that. It is fantastic! A customer of ours in the area recommended this. It is a mix of German Czech style food, which makes it even more enjoyable. Note, it only serves Czech beers, which seems odd in Germany, but the selection of Czech beers did not disappoint. I tried the dark beer from the original Budvar brewery. It was almost as good as the German dark. The restaurant is huge with an open area, so you can always find a seat. The food was top notch, and done well. The pork knuckle was right up there with Munich restaurants. I wasn't a fan of their sauerkraut or what they called special dumpling, which tasted more like potato bread. I prefer the real German potato dumplings. If you are ever here you have to try their potato dumpling fries, they are out of this world. All that food and 2 beers for 40 euros, you can't go wrong. read more

I got here with my giant travel study group of 30 with a reservation, so we were seated immediately. The overall impression of the restaurant was that it felt Game-of-Thrones-esque, with the medieval theme. I ordered a mulled wine and a Wenzel roast in a forest mushroom sauce. We also got free pitchers of leitungswasser (tap water)! We were all hangry and very excited for food, but the food was delicious albeit being on the saltier side. Loved the food - 1/2 duck with three different kind of dumplings and red cabbage. As starter I had cup of goulash soup and as a desert yeast dumpling with plum filling. All extremely yummie. Also try the sampler of cf three Czech beers. read more
