My friend needed a straw so went up to the counter there was no one there but she could hear staff laughing and talking in the back, she called out several times but no one came to the counter so she said hello really loud then someone came to see what she needed. While we were eating our lunch a lady came inside bc they forgot to give her a straw, she also stood at the counter and called out many times saying hello and excuse me but no one came but we could hear the staff laughing and talking right around the corner from the counter. The costumer finally stepped around the counter and said Hello, excuse me then once again a employee finally came and ask what she needed. If you're looking for a delicate, fancy Italian dinner, this ain't it. But if you want a legendary,…read moremassive, soul-satisfying sandwich that will put you straight into a food coma, you come to the original California Sandwiches on Claremont in Little Italy. This place is an absolute Toronto institution. It's an old-school, no-nonsense joint that has been doing one thing perfectly for decades. The vibe inside is completely unpretentious - just a counter, the smell of frying veal & massive pots of simmering tomato sauce. You're here for the Classic Veal Sandwich. Do not overcomplicate it. The veal is perfectly breaded, incredibly tender & piled high on a fresh, soft Italian bun that somehow manages to hold up against an absolute mountain of sauce. I always get mine Medium (a perfect mix of their sweet and hot tomato sauce) and loaded with melted provolone cheese and fried mushrooms. The portions are huge--one sandwich is easily heavy enough to count as two meals. They do not skimp on the meat, and the flavor is flawless every single time. Pro Tip: Eating this is a serious contact sport. The sandwich is incredibly juicy and messy, so do not even think about trying to eat it while driving or wearing a white shirt. Grab a massive stack of napkins from the counter, find a spot to sit & lean forward. Also, the original location can get busy with local contractors and regulars around lunchtime, but the line moves fast. An absolute 10 out of 10 classic. It's heavy, it's real & it's one of the most satisfying comfort foods you can get in the city.

Conveniently Located…read more I stopped into this Irish Pub on a day when it was just pouring rain. It was right across the parking lot from my hotel. I was seated right away and ordered a happy hour glass of red wine. Since it was an Irish Pub, I had to try their Irish Potato Soup. The soup came out just hot enough and was topped with chives, bacon and cheese. It was a very good soup and packed with potato chunks. I ordered the McCarthy's Pub Steak, a 10 oz. strip loin, which was topped with rosemary compound butter, served with a side of heavenly mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was delightful, and although slightly overcooked, it was still a very good steak. The Green beans were fresh and firm and cooked perfectly, and were a great accompaniment to the steak. On their beer menu, I noticed they carried a Canadian beer from Unibroue Brassery in Quebec, which I thought was really cool. Overall, great food, service and happy hour specials and of course Canadian Craft Beer too !

She brought our drinks out and took our food order as soon as we were ready. We ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls, a buffalo chicken cheesesteak, french onion soup, and boneless wings with their hottest sauce. After the order was in for a few mins, the waitress came out to tell us they were out of eggrolls. I was bummed because that's what I was most looking forward to. The other food came out in about 15 mins. My boyfriend loved the french onion soup and he said his boneless wings were actually very spicy. He has a high spicy tolerance and these truly had some heat. My buffalo chicken cheesesteak reminded me of home (Philly) a little. The roll was a bit too soft for my preference, but the chopped chicken and cooper sharp cheese were perfect. The ambiance was of your typical sports bar, but it was decorated well and they had a good bit of TVs available.
