Like I said before, the sandwiches arrived the size of an adult's head. Jar dropping is a fitting description of what we looked like when our server placed the sandwiches before us. The homemade bread was soft and delicious. The chicken club easily had half a pound of cooked bacon on it. Before we ever took our first bites, we knew we would need to go boxes. Wait, did I mention we had the most wonderful cheese curbs as an appetizer? Worth ordering but only if you split a sandwich!! There are a handful of booths in the front area along with seating along the bar. TVs in the main room. There is also a back room that would hold maybe another 40 people. This tavern has been in place for years under different names. I would love to hear the history. I could see a set up that would have been particularly useful for gambling & drinking during prohibition. The staff was very efficient and helpful. One person out front & one in back. Never had to wait.

They have a 5 1/2lb. burger in one hour challenge which I can't even comprehend trying. We will return.

The fries are perfect, and the garlic aoli is tasty (I just don't get having to pay extra for it when you're already paying separately for the fries). Speaking of odd choices, for an American style restaurant, I was confused by the Reggaeton playing the entire time I ate there. Confused vibes. It's located near most of the popular bars in town that get really busy on the weekend, so maybe they're trying to liven up the place with music that doesn't really make sense for the space. My food was fresh and tasted fine. The Nashville hot sauce was worlds better than the garlic Parmesan. The waffle fries tasted good but were a bit overcooked (hard). It seemed clean inside, but there were fruit flies bothering us the entire time we were there. Not sure I would go back, but the food is alright.

There is ample parking around the building and it's very accessible from the road. Upon entry there weren't super clear directions about waiting for a host or seating yourself - this is very much a place of regulars so the need probably doesn't often occur to answer this question, although it did happen to us and the visitor in front of us haha. We were eventually greeted by the waitstaff and asked to find a seat. It's a fairly small dining room, maybe 6-8 tables(?) and a couple of horseshoe shaped bars to sit at right amongst the action of the open kitchen. They were quite full with only 1 table open at the time. Having a front row seat to it all was really cool! The menu had really great options without being overwhelming. They even has Sprite Zero so I couldn't have been happier. We ordered a double cheese burger, two sides of fries, and a double cheesesteak burger. This was essentially just a slightly larger and thicker burger. Both were excellent and were able to customise to our heart's delight! The fries were a little under seasoned for my liking, but salt and pepper were available. The ranch wasn't anything special, just premade from a pouch. The special of the day was a burger and cup of soup/chili, and I think we definitely were missing out there. It was super popular in the time we were there and the chili smelled incredible. And considering how hot the day was, it must have been really good for people to keep ordering it. When it came time to close out or check, we realised there was a "cash only" sign on the register. I'm usually really good about seeing these things ahead of time or looking for them on the door. So I apologise if it was posted upon entry, as well, but I did not see any signage for that other than at the register. Thankfully they do have an ATM on site inside if needed. The next time we are in the area we'll be back to try some of these other specials and goodies!

f you're in Sheboygan and not eating at Black Pig, respectfully, what are we doing?…read moreThis meal had me wondering why I don't make the trip to Sheboygan more often! Black Pig was such a great find, and everything we tried was packed with flavor. We started with the White Truffle & Black Pepper Bacon Fries, because regular fries simply weren't invited. The truffle and black pepper added so much flavor, and these were the perfect way to kick things off. Next up was the Shellfish Rangoon, filled with crab, scallop, and shrimp and topped with tahini-cabbage slaw and pineapple sweet & sour. The combination of flavors was unexpected but worked so well. Then came the Black Pig Cheeseburger, an 8 oz Niman Ranch USDA All-Natural Prime Beef burger with Hooks 1-year aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a house-made brioche bun. The burger was flavorful, juicy, and satisfying. I finished with the Endless Rhubarb Summer mocktail, made with rhubarb shrub, lime, simple syrup, ginger ale, and dehydrated lime. It was refreshing and the perfect way to round out the meal. The service was amazing from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the entire experience even better. I also loved how spacious and clean the restaurant was. It has a comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to sit down, enjoy your meal, and stay awhile. Overall, Black Pig is absolutely worth the drive from Madison. Great food, creative flavor combinations, amazing service, and a spacious, clean atmosphere. I came hungry, and Black Pig definitely delivered.

As you might expect, the menu is decidedly pig-forward, although there are plenty of other excellent options. The Wine Spectator- recognized wine list is absolutely incredible, featuring many bottles you would be hard-pressed to find even at high-end restaurants in much larger cities. We started with the Belly Belly Nice appetizer, featuring thick-cut Duroc bacon served with three dipping sauces. All were delicious, but the whole-grain mustard was an absolute must. The duck confit leg and thigh was ridiculously good, easily one of the five best duck dishes I've ever had. Others at our table enjoyed the Big Pig Burger, which was juicy and packed with unique flavors. Another standout was the grilled Ibérico pork pluma, which was prepared beautifully. I would make a special trip back to Sheboygan just to eat here again. It was truly that good!

I got seated right away, and everything from the friendly service to the quick turnaround (food hit the table in about 10 minutes) set the tone for a solid experience. I started with a cup of their cream of vegetable soup, and wow--this was the sleeper hit of the meal. Creamy, super flavorful, and seasoned so well that I didn't even reach for the pepper shaker (which is rare for me when it comes to cream soups). Just spot-on. For the main dish, I went with the hot turkey. It came out looking a little suspect--grill marks and a slightly dry appearance--but ended up being way better than expected. The turkey was actually tender and flavorful, and the gravy on top tied it all together. My only complaint? There wasn't enough of that gravy! A double portion would've taken it to the next level. Overall, Parkside is doing diner food right. Great place for a comforting, no-fuss meal. I'll definitely be back.
