Walked in expecting a meat cathedral or a place where steaks whisper "buy me." What I found: cozy wood-fire vibes, a very friendly (non-biting) bear, and enough bourbon options to make an old man consider rewriting his will. The fireplace smelled like nostalgic childhood and good decisions--10/10 for ambiance and for making my sweatshirt and joggers feel almost fancy. #KindaUnderDressed #WelcomedAnyway Service Taylor is the reason civilization endures. Smiling, attentive, and kept my drink full even when I'm notoriously bad at hydration. If you know this bald guy, you understand how important my hydration is. #RefillPlease Food I ordered the French Dip: shaved prime rib, caramelized onion, provolone on a rustic roll that should have its own fan club, plus a cup of au jus that practically deserves a hug. Fries instead of the famous house BBQ chips because I'm a rebel who pays extra for potatoes. Fries were excellent., but who charges extra for fries? The audacity. Sweet tea was dangerously on point. Menu Notes From steakhouse splurges ($25-$45) to bar sandwiches and a 30-tap beer situation that reads like a sommelier's fever dream, there's something to fit every budget and ego. Apps include deviled eggs with ambition and pork belly that knows what it's doing. Desserts are fancy enough to make you consider wearing socks with sandals. Vibe and Price Felt classier than my usual sweatshirt-and-wind-joggers combo, though several patrons were clearly auditioning for "dinner with a trust fund." It's a little pricey, which is trending everywhere these days -- so I blame inflation and the 1845 potato famine. Also -- again -- fries cost extra. Someone explain this economy to me. Who should go Date night, impress-your-in-laws, or take your friend who brags about beer knowledge. Say "ask for Taylor" and thank me later. Final Score 3 out of 5 Bald Head Emojis: ‍‍‍ Minus one for price. Minus one for charging extra for fries. #CheapOldMan Would I go back? Yep. Had a great time catching up on the Madison County Gossip, excellent sandwich, great server, and atmosphere that makes even a bald guy feel a little fancier. #followforsnark Recommend to anyone who wants good food and a cozy, slightly upscale small-town vibe. #ShopLocal Walked in expecting a meat cathedral or a place where steaks whisper "Buy me."

A few…read moreyears ago they started serving food, which on the surface sounds great, but they somehow got a waiver to not vent their kitchen so even if you're not sitting near it, you're going to reek. I got home last night and stripped down in front of my washer because every thing I was wearing stunk. Then I had to do the same with my husband's clothes in the morning because they made the laundry room stink since they were in there all night (he got home later than me.) When I got into my car the next morning, I was horrified to discover my car reeked too because the pullover I was wearing was still in there so I had to give my car a Febreze bath, which didn't work because even though I threw my hoodie into the washer before I left, my purse still stunk. I have no idea how the bartenders and regulars put up with this. They must have gone nose blind to the stench years ago. Sidenote: For some reason they removed some of the pool tables and replaced it with a golf game. This always confused me because the pool tables were always used and I never, ever see someone playing this golf game. I just chalked it up to the fact I started going to the bar less and less because I didn't want to smell like a deep fried chicken nugget. Then one night I finally see someone playing the stupid game and it nearly gave me a heart attack. Every time someone hit the golf ball into the screen, it sounds like a gun goes off. It's horrible. The owners have ruined this bar. Take my advice and go to the Mad Cow. Better food, better atmosphere and you'll leave with your clothes and heart intact.
