My parents used to take me to the original location back in the 80s, and it was always a great experience. Back then you stood in line, ordered at the counter, and had more of a self-service experience. I think I still prefer that style over the newer sit-down service, but that may just be nostalgia talking. My son and I stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon while we were out around town digging through vinyl shops. He immediately requested Wallbanger's. Our waitress, Fantasia, was great and pointed out they had a $5 half-order appetizer special during happy hour. We started with mozzarella sticks and chipotle BBQ boneless wings. The mozzarella sticks do seem a little different from what I remember at the original spot, but these were still fresh, hot, gooey, and really good. The marinara they serve with them is great. The boneless wings were solid too, and their chipotle BBQ sauce is one of my favorites. My son ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with that same chipotle BBQ sauce. The sandwich was huge and he ended up taking half of it home to finish later. I went with the Uncle Sam burger, which is a classic burger setup with bacon added. It was very good. Their sidewinder fries are always on point. One thing that deserves special attention here is the bun. They make their buns in house and they're excellent. Fresh, soft, and full of flavor. It's not just something holding the burger together. The bun is part of what makes the whole burger experience work. This place has been part of my family's routine for decades now. I hope it sticks around long enough for a fourth generation of my family to enjoy it.

Wife ordered a chicken fried steak, I ordered the cheesy burger. My burger was quite good with fixings delivered on the metal tray. The CF steak however was a major disappointment. Looks huge...but it's very thin and covered in WAY too much breading. The mixed veggies were covered in grease and the mashed potatoes tasted and had the texture of instant. So, food was good and not good...now there's a waitperson to tip where there wasn't before...a lot of staff where there wasn't before. It's a choice ownership made when the move took place. Sad to see the changes. We already had a number of sports bars. Miss the simpler approach.

My wife ordered the Nashville hot sandwich and it came out as a huge piece of chicken. She couldn't finish it, but my son had no problem stepping in later. Instead of even attempting to check with the kitchen, she immediately told us no. We even tried to upgrade additional fries and were repeatedly told no again--without her ever checking or offering any explanation as to why. As someone who has worked in restaurants for years, I know that kind of request is typically very doable, especially with a willingness to pay an upcharge. It felt less like a policy issue and more like a lack of effort or willingness to help. Overall, the experience came off as inattentive and unaccommodating, which is disappointing because the restaurant itself has potential. Good service goes a long way, and unfortunately, this visit completely missed the mark.
